Best graphics of any game?

Driving around Hong Kong when it's raining at night in Sleeping Dogs blew my mind. Best graphics I've seen on the 360 in my opinion, nothing else comes close to how crazy good it looks, the lighting is just out of this world.

Thread seems useless without some sort of common criteria and as ever it there seems the usual confusion between technical graphics (resolution, etc) and artistic design.

Anyway... I'll say either Crysis or GTA IV on PC modded overall (no console game is going to come to close to those currently) from a technical perspective.

Artistically I'd probably go with Journey or Flower - loved the look of both of those.

Another World. This game nailed down the looks HARD. It's basically timeless. (Save for the cut-scenes which look much worse than the game.) But this (and it's spirtual predecessor Heart of Darkness) really spent a lot of effort on the animations and the result is that the game looks even better in motion.
Not to mention this games set the tone for many of the best looking games - Journey, SoTC, Ico.

It does not but hopefully people realize its not the original game and none of the credit should go to the dev's.

That's not a problem since Crysis vanilla is still a incredible looking game. And that's quite an achievement for a title released in 2007.
It blows my mind everytime I think of it, even on PC only a few games rival it and of course no console games come close. ^_^

On a sidenote I agree with the best looking console games you've listed, I would put Killzone 3 ahead of those three though.

Yeah i think a thread like "Best Art Direction" or "Best Technical graphics" would have been much more interesting and we could have had a more focused discussion.

That iCE mod for GTA 4... Too much hassle to get that thing working. Editing txt-files etc etc and if you fuck up it's all fucked up - and that's why i dont game on PC.

No it's not. I played the game with everything maxed... That's one of the early renders iirc. Before the game even realeased. The final game didn't end up looking like that. It still beat anything else when it released, but it didn't look like that.

And Crysis 2 still beats it with the DX11 patch.

Correct correct correct.

Also, Witcher 2 is probably the most impressive game I can think of. Impressive in terms of both art and technical ability.

That Crysis screen is strange, the FoV is way smaller than the default game is.

That's because it's from the pre-release video from years and years ago.

You're right. With mods Crysis 1 looks even better than that pic. You mentioned C2 with HD textures and so we should allow C1 the same advantage, which is why I said it does look that good.

There is absolutely no way to answer the question posed in this thread.

So I'm just going to post some screenshots from Curse of Monkey Island.

Not enough games aim to be timeless.

Technically speaking, it's not Journey of course, but it did actually leave me awestruck, unlike anything since Crysis has.

Wind Waker is probably the most timeless looking game of all time, so I'm going to go with that. The damn thing just doesn't age. All they'd have to do is update a handful of texture resolutions and put it in a format where it outputs at a decent resolution and you have undoubtably the best looking game I've ever seen.

Nintendo are bound to jump on the HD Remasters bandwagon, and that's bound to be top billing.
