Best graphics of any game?

No they secrete resine ; ) , or they used this :

Is just that plastic look that a lot of games have , pretty ugly btw.

I think recently The Witcher 2 on PC and even on the 360 has some amazing Graphics of this Gen...

To rock the boat I would also say Mass Effect 3 has some nice graphics if a little dull in places.. as does the Gears of Wars series.

But a special time bubble tribute goes to Shenmue on the DC all those many moons ago...

a world without colour

Not this again. The visual style of Killzone is distinctive, cohesive, and well realized. It doesn't need to have color for the sake of color; its use of color is extremely effective.

I find myself really frustrated by people who are just linking games that they think look nice, rather than games that actually have great graphics. Uncharted 3 doesn't have great graphics--Halo 3 beats it with its absurd draw distance, far higher amounts of geometry, and tesselation in the water, for instance--it just has fantastic art design (and human faces that aren't terrible).

Is this real post

Come on, guys, stop confusing art design with technical graphics. :(

I think STALKER: Clear Sky is a pretty impressive game, given the batshit insane levels of detail going on in every shot, but at this current stage, I'm fairly certain that The Witcher 2 is the current graphics king. Looks like Halo 4's cut down on the draw distance quite massively, and all that stuff in its backgrounds is just 2D.

Again...

Put me down for Wind Waker too. It's just amazing how it keeps on holding up. A real achievement of visual and technical design.

Another pic cuz why not

Those 2d overlay effects for the explosions blew my mind(so to speak)...not just because they look great, but they're such a clever visual punchline.

Best looking games to me:

- Sleeping Dogs
- Mass Effect 2 (I really love the way it looks)
- Rayman Origins
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Bulletstorm (loved the aesthetic)

Games that didn't look as impressive as they were made out to be:
- Crysis 2 (not a fan of the artstyle)
- The Witcher 2 (not jaw dropping like everyone says)
- Battlefield 3 (it looked good at first, but the art direction got really boring. Nice textures though.)
- Metro 2033 (just no.)

I am facepalming so hard in this thread.. Halo 3 better looking than uncharted 3? Skyrim better than witcher 2? What is wrong with you people..

Good thread, I'm enjoying the posts here.

I have a question. There's this website that takes popular games and shows up-rezzed screenshots with max settings. I know there are probably plenty, but this one is really good. It has a white/grayish color scheme. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'll take up arms against The Witcher 2 slightly too...it is a little hit and miss. Without a doubt, it has some great hi-fi textures, but some of the faces and animations are on the weird side, and little things like character hair and ground textures don't always deliver. Nitpicking, but only in the context of it often being regarded as the world's best-looking game.

My TV's scaler is complete ass, so any console game looks terrible on it. I need to get an HDPVR and use my PC to scale them instead.

Don't you mean PS3 games? Because the xbox360 does the upscaling work itself so the quality of your TV's upscaler does not make a difference to how it looks.

360: Halo 4

PS3: Uncharted 2

PC: Crysis (well with mods, BF3 without)

Yeah I just started to replay PD0 and am amazed at how good looking the game can be.. The textures, environments and lighting can be beautiful.

I kind of find it amazing that a wrpg is able to look as good as the best action games. Yes, nothing says that this can't happen, but I find it pretty strange nonetheless.

The equivalent 10 years ago would be like Deus Ex looking as good as Metal Gear Solid 2.

Great art style does not equal great graphics imo.

Okami, Wind waker etc look amazing in terms of art but grapically best ever???? No.

i have, and its a slight improvement over 2 but still is a very dull game, both graphically and gameplay

Are you not the person who said Cliffy is the best game director? Sorry if I mistook you for someone else but if not lol!

Honestly, I can't even consider Battlefield 3 due to the annoying dirt and stain filters on the pretend lens. Shit's almost as bad as the game's campaign.

I need magic eyes then. :(

If art counts for anything, then Mirror's Edge is up there.

Every time I see Mirror's Edge screenshots my jaw drops

Also the Mario Galaxy screenshots posted on the last page weren't that hot. If the Wii really was as powerful as the PS3 and 360 I have no doubt Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 would give Uncharted a run for its money. The stuff they managed to squeeze out of the Wii as it is is already amazing enough.

Killzone 2 is the only FPS this gen which I feel captures the brutality of war. KZ3 just lost all of it with its bright colors. It was a fun game and very beautiful but no FPS on consoles this gen touches KZ2 in terms of its presentation of war. The dust, smoke. lighting, the animation, the hit detection, the sound.. Nothing comes close on consoles this gen.

Slightly of topic though -It also was my most favorite trailer of this gen. The part from 0:10 to 0:14 still gets me today. KZ2 almost makes War feel poetic in a way.

Also curious - does any other game have enemies continuing to shoot their guns while falling like this trailer shows? Not quite recollecting any game from this gen..

OP isn't very specific, but....

Art wise it has to be Journey or Wind Walker for me.

For pure realism, that GTA IV mod is pretty hard to beat, but that's not the original game so I'm disqualifying it. So Crysis wins.

I vote for Zelda WW, too. Sad that we probably won't see an HD remake of it on the Wii U, unless Nintendo has some sort of super fast equivalent of 1TSRAM going on.

Nope. Trine 2 has the most amazing 3D visuals I have scene. It's built in 3D does a great job! I was floored the first time I played it on my 3D TV.

Oops. Sorry got confused. I did not know you meant 3D output. I did not even know Trine 2 was 3D compatible. Need to check it out then! Try Super Stardust if you have not tried it in 3D. It is pretty good.

I'm don't know about the Console versions.... The PC version is amazing. Super Stardust couldn't hold a candle. Still it was nice in 3D. :-)

I, like many others here, find it very difficult to be impressed by TW2. Other than obvious stuff like resolution and overall IQ, I don't think it's more impressive than the best-looking PS3 games.

yes i am, not sure why i got banned for that thread but it was worth it!

Project CARS

are those your shots? how did you get it looking so good? i've maxed the game out and while it looks great it doesnt look near that level

I am facepalming so hard in this thread.. Halo 3 better looking than uncharted 3? Skyrim better than witcher 2? What is wrong with you people..

Because graphics and art design are two different things.

Halo 3 trumps Uncharted in the graphics department, because Uncharted has a lot of simplistic geometry (the amount of polygons you see in any scene in Halo is likely to be vastly higher than what you would see in Uncharted), short draw distances, and, iirc, less capable lighting. However, Uncharted trumps Halo in the art department, because Naughty Dog has some fucking great artists.

From a technical perspective, Halo 3 is superior. From an artistic perspective, it is worse.

In a thread about "best graphics", Halo is the winner. If someone started a thread about games with great art design, Uncharted would come out on top.

...and then I realized how that could sound like fanboyism. Hm. I was just trying to compare Uncharted with a game with high draw distances and tesselation, and Halo 3 was the only one I could think of.
