Best rain levels....

IIRC Oblivion's storms could be vicious looking. Storm clouds roll in, vegetation sways and whips up. Could be my brain filling tech in though.

I find the rain in Minecraft great, as basic at it is. It reduces visibility and I like the roar of it. I remember hanging out in a mine waiting for a storm to end (started a night through morning) and it increasing my immersion and the ambiance.

Dark Age of Camelot had rain I liked too, mostly because it obscured your vision.

Edit: lol sorry my mistake, so let's just keep the one from DKC2.

Surprised nobody posted yet...

Couldn't find better pics lol.

Uncharted 2 had pretty good rain, everything looks so shiny and slippery.

also heavy rain had very nice moody rain.

I always preferred the snow in it. I loved how after so long, snow settles on certain parts of the ground, and you could hear it crush under your feet as you walked. Really added to the christmasy atmosphere the game had.

Yakuza 4 had few rain chapters. I love how the city looks with reflections off billions light and everybody with umbrellas:

omg yes. I wished it rained the entire game. So gud. ;_;

Hard Rain in L4D2 is the example that left the biggest imprint on me.

Maybe its because the thunderstorms in Minnesota are nearly as bad, but it felt like "Oh shit this really feels like a bad storm".

I also liked it when it rained in the original Harvest Moon. It felt like everything came to a stop and it was a me day.

Not necessarily a level but still, :D

Resident Evil 4 - When you walk out of that cabin, into the village at night... wow.

Alan Wake had some pretty cool weather effects as well.

Hopefully not because of fans' tears of disappointment.

More like because the whole damn premise revolves around rain/water. It even effects enemy behaviour reportedly; when it starts raining, it's time to find some shelter!

Anyway, I nominate that case in L.A. Noire where you turn up at the scene of the third or fourth victim of
the serial killer
.

Wouldn't that be a great game? Just seeking shelter from the rain that surprises you at night and then seeing the sun rise from an abandoned barn's window, that swollen red blot reflected in the dew drops on the cloverleaf petals outside -- again and again. I'd pay a Garnett Lee premium for that kind of game.

stalker, anywhere: pitch-black midnight gun battles in abandoned warehouses with dynamic wet surfaces and global radiosity lightning, so good.

That actually sounds damn interesting. Still, I refuse to feel any hype until I play the game.

I just wish it never stopped raining in A Link To The Past. I love the rain, and I don't see why games have to use it in a bad way (same with films). It usually sets a dark mood of something about to happen. What I like with the new Pokemon games is that the weather comes back, while in most games the sun is what the game is "meant" to appear after you have "saved the world".

Another rain favourite is from the beginning in Little Big Adventure 2
I couldn't find any pictures of the weather but this speedrun beings back memories.

Just noticed someone posted it before me, darn!

Yeah, it was a nice change of pace. Repairing the fences, courting your sweetheart, listening to the rain prattle away while you're milking your cows or collecting the eggs ... I think I need to play the game again.

If it had never stopped, the impact would have been much weaker.

You've got a point, but couldn't at least have more rain in other areas!

Any harvest moon game because that meant no watering the crops, and more time doing other stuff.

Harvest Moon: Friends from Mineral Town. Something about them was just amazingly calming.

You mean like the fact that you got the day off from watering all your crops? :)

I guess it all boils down to whether you liked the last game or not really. Shattered Memories is hugely polarizing stuff, and seems to generate extreme opinions for the most part. I'm firmly in the camp that loved it so I don't feel like my hype for Downpour is misplaced. Plus...rain! Lots of it!

Coincidentally enough, in accordance with your avatar, my second most anticipated release of the year is Max Payne 3. In all likelihood, that supposed December date isn't very credible, but fingers crossed.

The Acid Rain on the Pirate Homeworld for Metroid Prime 3. The sound of the rain drops, the burning sound when you are unprotected, the drops on your visor, tis great.
