From a twisted antagonist perspective I would argue the OG Berserk

Griffith did all of that shit to Guts JUST for revenge, to prove HE was the leader/best.

Faith - Hope - Love

This is a good film, but I actually hate it for how sickingly tragic and upsetting it was for me.

Spoilers: Upon watching a second time with the chapters in chronological order, you realise that the avenging boyfriend kills the wrong man. "Le Tenia" ("The Tapeworm") just watches on and enjoys the violence as his rape victim's boyfriend horrifically murders the wrong man in a brutal fit of rage.

The Last House on the Left and there's one slasher movie with female lead can't remember the name. Basically some thugs enter her house and she picks them off one by one

Better to say "What movie worth a shit ISN'T a revenge story?" Hell, even back to the future is kinda revenge with Marty trying to save Doc. Fridging a character as motivation is an almost timeless trope,

But my favorite revenge tale...

Christopher Nolan's only masterpiece.

His movies without his brother writing suffer a lot.
I'm starting to think he is the more talented of the two.

As for my pick of best revenge movies.

- Gone Girl (technically she gets her revenge in a sick twisted way)
- Harry Brown (Michael Caine doesn't give a F*** is the best)
- V for Vendetta (Hugo Weaving is great even if the movie is a pale shadow to the comic, it's still great)
- The Lion King ( well , I'm not exactly cheating with this one as it as everything a good revenge flick need, a good villain, personal stakes, a sweet payoff :)
- Death Sentence (very straightforward but does the basics very well and Kevin bacon is great in it)

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Surprised nobody mentioned Inglorious Basterds yet.

+1 for I Saw The Devil. Bonkers movie.

Most of the great ones have been mentioned (The Vengence trilogy by Park Chan Wook, Get Carter, I saw the devil, unforgiven, Mad Max, Payback...). Have you all watched a little gem titled Dead Man's Shoes with Paddy Considine? He is fantastic in it, and the flick is worth a watch.
