What developer has the best stretch of releases of all time?

OIP.VathivzJXz94WhT6RNpfSwHaDD

With Infinity Ward from 07-10, I had the honor to play cod4, mw2 and W@W at launch and mind you cod had heavy competition at the time but cod just hit every green lit perfect to me for that specific run of releases, in the sports world we call that a dynasty.

GAF what developer had the best run of releases before falling off?

Well give some credit to Treyarch.

Squaresoft from 1993 to 2001 off the top of my head:
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy X
Xenogears
Secret of Mana
Vagrant Story
Front Mission 3
Chrono Trigger
Legend of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Parasite Eve
Parasite Eve 2

I can't think of a better stretch of releases in gaming history than 90s and early 2000s Squaresoft.

Bungie > Halo CE, 2, & 3.

CE = Insane controller dual thumbsticks FPS and infinitely replayable campaign. Also splitscreen coop and multiplayer with LAN madness.
2 = What a fucking campaign! That damned cut off cliffhanger ending tho. Multiplayer gave us Xbox Live, and just dominated LAN and coop and multiplayer like no other game. Ranked objective/BTB objective with proximity chat before party chat fucked it all up was the best thing ever.
3 = Brought the trilogy home and coop. Absolute domination of online multiplayer. Tight as fuck. Replays, ranked

The music. Fuck me the music across these 3 games is iconic to this day.

So are the maps, guns and vehicles. SPNKR, BR, AR, Shotty. Warthog. Ghost. Scorpion. Come on. You know this shit is iconic AF. Maps are too many iconic maps to even name across that trilogy.

Not to mention bringing MLG up. As much as I don't like those settings over "default ol' school Halo" I respect the hustle and broadening of esports by Halo back in the day. Mad respect.

And the best post goes too…

No I think Bungie's Halo 1-3 run inspired so many developers, I remember the coop, the madness in capture the flag and all that to change to battle royale just cluelessness living in a junkie sandbox.

For a truly prolific stretch of hits that changed the gaming landscape, it's hard to beat Rare's time with Nintendo.

Donkey Kong Country (redesign of a Nintendo character that persists to this day), Goldeneye and Perfect Dark (redefined console shooters), plus numerous lesser things like Banjo-Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, Diddy Kong Racing, etc.

Bungie was amazing back then. The Halo 3 launch day, when you fired up the game and saw 1.2 million players online - that was truly special. Before that, too, Myth 1 and 2 are still some of the best online experiences I've ever had, plus they had a big influence with the Marathon games on Mac.

How Bungie nor 343 never delivered GaaS campaign/coop at the levels of Fortnite or Apex or COD is fucking beyond me. How Halo never did a BR game in true Halo style is fucking beyond me. Apex Legends straight up ate Halo for breakfast. Best online FPS like Halo. Period. Reswpawn have tweaked that Halo FPS formula to the modern BR/arena so fucking well. Their maps, their weapons, their sandbox, their content pipeline. Honestly this old school Halo fanatic is so happy to have Apex/Respawn pushing the same mechanics so fucking well e.g. shields, health, pickups, limited weapons/vehicles and the sublime interplay from outdoor ranges to CQC indoors is so fucking tight in Apex.

Solid point you make about inspiring developers from Bungie. That original crew were just gods in the industry. Campaigns, multiplayer, networking, matchmaking, iconic characters and weapons. Such an achievement.

People have a tendency to ignore Nintendo in these sort of discussions because they make machines and don't feel like a traditional studio.

But they are a development studio.

Their run on the SNES through N64 is untouchable and make any other studio look like a joke.

It should be 1994 - 2007

When they stopped making games for PS2 is when their decline started
I don't have a hard disagree, but I feel once TSW dropped, it was game over for SquareSoft as fans knew them.

But yeah, there were also some stellar releases from Square "Enix" in the early days of their merger.

Yeah, it's like Nintendo steps outside the box and has 10 studios in their first party line up. Bonkers to go from SMB 1/2/3 across Party, Kart, DK, Pokemon, Zelda, Metroid in SNES and N64 era.

Bomberman with a multitap and couch/coop of Kart and Party was good times.

Not sure how that's relevant since the thread is about best stretch of quality releases. Nothing about the variety of them.
Also, the old SquareSoft produced a lot of experimental games , encompassing different genres.

They haven't been mentioned yet in this thread and I'm too lazy to type them out. :/

Nintendo games are predictable but I respect that they have tradition at the same time, Mario best platformer in gaming, Zelda is very well constructed and clearly there's more Nintendo games. This post is truth.

I'll always go to bat for 90s Square and 90s Rare, but c'mon, it's Nintendo. Specifically in the 90s (again).

Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990)
Super Mario World (1991)
Zelda: A Link to the Past (1992)
Zelda: Link's Awakening (1993)
Super Metroid (1994)
Donkey Kong (1994)
EarthBound (1995)
Yoshi's Island (1995)
Super Mario 64 (1996)
StarFox 64 (1997)
Pokemon Red/Blue (1998)
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)

I could put lesser-greats on there if I wanted to fill it out more (like Super Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and Kirby Super Star), but I wanted to keep it to games people often cite as some of the best ever. I dare anyone to come up with a ten-year span of a single developer that approaches this level of variety, popularity, and critical acclaim.
