Bethesda E3 2015 Showcase Thread: Please Stand By

How will ZeniMax/Bethesda's conference go?

Doom: 5/10. Highlights include quick movement speed, not entirely hideous visuals inside the complex, the use of the original Doom door noise. Lowlights include the disgusting and stupid looking QTE kills, the weapon pickup cutscenes, the turdy brownness of hell, generally poor enemy models, virtually no enemy reaction/feedback to being shot, the fact that it looked like Doom 3, and next gen audio diaries. Demo went on forever.

Doom Level Creator: 8/10. Although it seemed sort of limited, more like Forge than a real level/campaign editor, the prefab stuff and level logic seemed like it had a great UI. Hopefully this doesn't preclude more extensive modding, but a great first foray into modding for console people.

Doom Multiplayer: 2/10. Didn't look good, too much UI, too many effects. I know that Doom 1 was the grandaddy of this stuff, but I am convinced that at best this will be marginally more popular than Doom 3's multiplayer.

Bethesda.net: 0/10: (to the extent that this is a client, an account system for games, or anything other than just a revamp of their corporate website) No one wants this stupid garbage. Any features it could offer are already available through existing services. Publishers need to stop running their own segmented services. They produce fan worry (because they are not all going to survive and could be shut down), they are security risks (because they all get hacked despite assurances they won't), and they basically add nothing. I am sure smart people worked very hard on this superfluous product and while it feels bad to trash hard work, I can't stress enough how much this is a bad direction for gaming, and especially PC gaming, and how I am credibly worried that this will result in bad things. If it's just a revamp of their corporate website then 1/10 snooze I already have places to talk about Bethesda games.

Battlecry: 2/10. I don't think this looked good when it was revealed. I don't think it looks now. It's not a genre that would interest me, but even within the genre, it doesn't look like an interesting game.

Dishonored 2: 5/10. I didn't finish Dishonored 1. It's my fault, I tried to play it with no upgrades and no kills for my first playthrough. That was dumb. It took me like 6+ hours to get through the first mission. That was dumb. I'll give it a try again later. That being said, Dishonored 2 is a thing. CG trailers are dull. The design looked less interesting to me than the first game. I like the idea of a female playable character. I like the idea of multiple playable characters. I'm sure this will turn out well, but this presentation didn't excite me. The fake "dude gets excited and speaks french" moment that opened the presentation was lame.

Dishonored 1 HD: 0/10. I already own Dishonored 1 HD and have for years.

The Elder Scrolls Online: ? Was there anything in this trailer or was it just an ad for an already released game?

Hearthstone: 1/10. I'm sure this will end up a competent game, but frankly, this was the absolute dumbest way they could have unveiled it.

Fallout: Vault Shelter: 10/10. This looked great. Looked very thoughtful, and I really appreciated that Todd Howard took the time to name specific influences that spanned gaming history, including progress quest. I think among the interactive screensaver ecosystem work, this could be great. And it looks, provisionally at least, like there's no onerous business model. How nice is that?

Fallout 4: 10/10. So, the animation looks hideous, the graphics rough, Gamebryo sucks, and the dialogue seemed a bit stilted. That being said, I thought the world looked great, the two playable characters were super, I liked the presentation a lot. Combat looks better, VATs looks better. I liked the use of colour. Character creator looks good. The dog seems fine. They showed a wide variety of content. Third person seemed like it worked fairly well. There was good use of humour. But the building is what I liked the most. I think Morrowind's Bloodmoon expansion and the construction of the trading post station is probably Bethesda's finest hour so far. To see them take a more flexible, Minecraft-like approach to building, down to the more advanced electricity systems, is really great. I think I could really make a "home" in this game. I want to walk through this world and dismantle everything I find, take and remove every object, and use them to make my perfect house. I can't wait to see how mods improve this. The release date was a great cherry on top.

"Real Life Pip Boy" Deluxe Edition: 0/10. Cat helmet garbage.

Pip Boy App: 3/10. Dumb novelty, Todd Howard recognized it was one at least.

Overall the conference was OK, a good start for Bethesda, and Fallout 4 looks really great. Hope Doom improves for release and that we get to actually see Dishonored 2.
Holy shit, I agree with everything 100%.

Fallout 4 looks incredible... but Doom, I wasn't impressed. It looks like a repetitive shooter with red and brown being the only colors used. Normally I don't say stuff like this, but there's really nothing special about this new Doom.

It's a classic franchise... I remember it was one of the first PC games I ever played back in 93 (and I loved it back then), but the shooters we have now far exceed what I saw today IMHO.

I thought the conference was terrible from a content POV (presentation was actually decent), but I've absolutely no interest in Elder Scrolls or (Bethesda made) Fallout games.

Disheartened to see Dishonored is still so magic based. It is what it is, but I'd still kill for a proper stealth game.

DOOM looks like a console shooter...

Battle-whatever-it-was looked like a bargain bin title at best.

On the plus side, things can only get better.

I thought Fallout 4 looked incredible. I can see why the graphics are what they are, because the scope of the game is mesmerizing. So much depth, so many thing it has going on. The new settlement system looks fantastic. The sound design is incredible, too, as is the presentation. I will try to get it day one on Xbox One.

Stump, do you read minds? I was pretty underwhelmed during the Doom sections, except Snapmap, which was awesome to see shown in a conference, and towards the end. But I feel like I need to play this before getting truly excited. Also want to see hands on.

My thoughts.

Doom: Meh. Hopefully it was just the sections they decided to show off, but the entire thing felt just okay to me. It's odd that they were emphasizing the speed before the gameplay, and my thoughts during it were "Why is this so Slow?". The takedowns and chainsaw kills just destroy the pacing of the game and the level design didn't look very good. I'll probably pick it up during a Steam sale. The level creator is cool, but if the gameplay isn't there to back it up it's just wasted potential.

Bethesda.net: Who asked for this?

Battlecry: I don;t know. I thought it was interesting when they first revealed it, but this showing was really boring to me. I'l l probably sign up for the beta to check it out.

Dishonored: CG trailer of a game we already knew was coming. *yawn*

Dishonored 1 rerelease: I already have the GotY Edition on Steam.

TESO: I couldn't care less about that.

Hearthstone: TES Edition: Just why? There's no way they;re dragging people away from Hearthstone.

Fallout Shelter: That looks amazing. I really hope it comes to Android someday so I can play it.

Fallout 4: This looked amazing as expected. The crafting and base building aspects really appeal to me. I always love building up a home or home town in games, so having this incorporated into such an immersive game like Fallout is like a dream come true. VATS and the gunplay also seem to be improved quite a great deal which is nice. The animations still suck, you can tell it's Bethesda dialogue, the story probably won't be very good, and the moral choices will be probably be laughably black and white (if Fallout 3 is an example), but despite all that the game looks amazing.

Pip-Boy Edition: Oh that's cool. I wouldn't mind spending an extra $15-$20 on it. Oh, it's an extra $60? Fuck that.

Pip-Boy App: It's silly and I probably won't use it.

Doom stuff was pretty dull except the map making.

Battlecry and the card game look like garbage.

Can't say anything about Dishonored 2 as we just have the CG trailer.

Dishonored HD does nothing for me, as it is yet another remaster.

Fallout Shelter looks great.

Fallout 4 looks greater.

Doom looks exactly how I was hoping it would. Looks fantastic. Great start to the conference. Didn't really care at all about anything else shown until Fallout. Holy shit that made me smile. I'm worried about finding time to play anything else after that comes out. Its going to take some serious megaton to get me as excited as Fallout did.

Watching the replay on my ps4 youtube app? Checked my wired connection and I'm getting like 24 down and 4 up.

Why can't this stream at better quality? Anyway to fix this? Would like to figure it out for tomorrow.

Anyone know where I can watch the conference - all links on other threads are live steams so none work.

Okay found it on their youtube only 360p though..

Doom and Fallout were the only real meat of this conference, but they were enjoyable. I feel like they should have just had the second single player gameplay section for Doom, the first was weak in comparison. Fallout 4 had some really wow-worthy stuff with the building system. Everything between those felt like filler.

Watching the conference in retrospect and have only come until the end of Doom. Great introduction to the conference although the first doom demo maybe dragged out a bit. The game seems to be very versatile in terms of weapons, movement and close combat. Visually it looks great, ecpecially as a idTech game. It appeared smooth on the stream and the last boss demo really showed of the games strengths. The map maker is very good in terms of content and all of the creative players at home. As a non Doom gamer, is the game played through levels? And is the objectives to get from a to b, killing a certain boss or similar?

Yes doom actually surprised me and looked fantastic. But the whole locked into animation stuff for chainsaw kills I could see get boring fast. But it was much better than I was expecting. Fallout damn that weapon customization is just fucking insane.

I'll give that conference a 7/10. It was very well paced. Games shown were well presented with extensive gameplay. Not much Bullshit, an awesome crowd and venue. Some cringeworthy moments though.

Fallout 4 looks amazing, truly above and beyond what I expected, it is so much more than Skyrim in every way possible. I'm so glad that Bethesda gets to do whatever the hell they want and take as much time as they need to make truly great games that push the medium. I turned into a puddle of drool at the weapon crafting system.

This is a studio that operates in decades now, 6 year dev cycle is just unreal, they hit god tier...

The conference is starting to lose my interests. The battlecry trailer didn't look good, even for that type of game. Dull both visually and mechanically. Haven't played it myself yet of course, so hopefully it's better in motion when planning it by hand. CGI-dishonoured didn't say much about the game, cool with a female Corvo though and nice artstyle. Dishonoured HD, will anyone buy that? ESO don't interests me and and a card game...
Now Fallout though, so it will probably end well.

Damn, what a way to start this week.
Woke up to some serious Fallout goodness.
Game's still graphically underwhelming, but everything else is just glorious.

And what surprised me was Todd Howard, i actually laughed to lots of his lines, was natural and in general a brilliant presenter.

8/10 (only based on Fallout, didn't even followed the rest), GG Bethesda.

Just reached Fallout 4 in conference. Good so far, and from what I read on twitter its going getting better. No stupid comedy or pointless celebs on stage = + for me.

I thought it was a great press conference. Wasn't too many dull movements. Doom delivered, fallout delivered and dishonored 2 looked good. The best thing about this conference to me is fallout is coming this year. I'm tired of game announcements that are at multiple e3s. Announce the shit and drop it.

Elder scrollstone? Never thought I'd play a ccg and I play hearthstone daily. I'd give it a chance

8.75 on game informers scale. Why game informer? Cause I found it odd they have .75s on there scoring system.

Strong showing. Doom looked really fun and fallout release date just sealed the deal. I give bethesda an A for their conference.

Doom looked amazing, it was excactly as I hoped it would be, fast and gory.

Oh and I loved those QTE kills, so come at me I guess

It was a good conference, especially for their first time. The presenters all seemed really genuine and they had a good lineup of games to show. But Fallout absolutely dominated the conference - it looked great and I loved how Todd presented it.

I wonder if Bethesda will skip holding a conference the next couple E3's until the next BGS Elder Scrolls title comes around. I can't imagine they'll have a lineup this good every year.

I didn't watch the conference live, it was on far too late. Catching the responses though, it seems to have gone down well all in all. Feel a bit left out since the only game I care about that they showed is Dishonored 2.

If you didn't think that conference was great I don't know what to say to you.. It was back to back games with proper demos (minus D2) and a "it's out now" surprise, plus the Fallout 2015 release. All the speakers were clear and confident.

That's a grade A presser if ever there was one.

I thought Pete Hines did well for his first (?) presser. The whole show was presented well and extended looks at games is a thing that should happen more often.

The crowd were annoying though.
