Biggest downgrades from initial reveal?

WTF! Is the first screen a concept art or what? Haha.

Ouch at Dark Souls II. DS1 was already an ugly game but 2 is out of this world.
Um I think something's wrong with those screenshots. Second one looks like something that hasn't finished loading to me...

Uncharted 3 had some hefty downgrades. Was still pretty in the end though of course.

Yes, I started playing this recently, and I noticed a few things that are bothering me after how great 2 was. Controlling Drake feels more "floaty" and I think the camera is pulled out more. His animations are also all over the place. I'm still fairly early in the game to declare it a major step-down from U2, but there are definitely things that make it seem like it was made by a more inexperienced team - don't know if that is the case. However, some of the graphics do look better, especially the face animation. A lot of the lighting and particle effects were almost TLOU level quality.

What if Peter Molyneux started developing a game for Ubisoft? That would probably be the best game ever*!!!!!!

*(until it released)

Hasn't this photo been discredited several times?
Nah, I just played Uncharted 3 and those scenes do look like that. It's strange though; those two scenes are easily the ugliest in the game, everything else is fantastic. It's especially noticeable in the Elena scene, where she looks very weird in that scene, but fine in the rest of the game.

I distinctly remember the difference between screenshots for The Getaway on Ps2's reveal and final product. And remember the PS2 bullshit tech demos.

the worst come from SONY

KILZONE 2

MOTORSTORM

and some others:

DEEP DOWN
WATCH DOGS

Really ?! I think you need to take a better look at the whole thread and you will find some nice surprise ...

Anyway there are a *lot* of downgrade, but for me, right now, Watch Dog is the number one if that footage comes from a PS4 or PC.

Because it ended up looking worse than the first game, trying to squeeze in too many effects.

I don't know how it had more effects. The lighting wasn't dynamic anymore in lots of places. The beginning level of Halo 1 had some great lighting. Nothing came close to that on Halo 2.

well. ya. thats why its weird.

why couldnt the cg look as good as that e3 video?
Couldn't? It's pre-rendered and they did it at E3. So framing it as "couldn't" just screams ill-informed.

It's the problem with these kinds of threads. Even artist motivated changes will be considered downgrades by some even in scenarios where the cost is the same as before.
These two bink-encoded videos take the same amount of resources to decode and display.

Forza 5
Watching Halo 2's E3 demo, was actually better than playing the released campaign -_-"
I want to say Killzone 2, but Killzone 2 looked amazing
Motorstorm

Bump-mapping everywhere. They also lost the detail textures that were awesome in the first game. Even Anniversary Edition managed to look worse that the original, but that was because of terrible art.

Wasn't the "CG" all done in-engine though, but turned into a video-file only to prevent load times?

This is commonly thought, but you can skip any of the cutscenes and move straight into gameplay (though sometimes you'll find some textures streaming in).

I also used to think that that cutscenes were real-time in-engine but rendered out to a video file, but I recall a picture of a setup being posted that had 4 PS3s hooked together that was supposedly being used to render out the cutscenes. So the only thing I think we can say about them is that they're in-engine?

Yeah, but I think that supports my point? The fact that the engine doesn't have to load a bunch of new assets just for a cutscene it what enables you to skip the cutscene and get right back to the game, isn't it?

Some of this shit is starting to make me afraid for Witcher 3. Anybody got comparisons between E3 reveal TW2 and retail TW2? I think retail TW2 actually ended up looking slightly better.

Hasn't this photo been discredited several times?

Yes, possibly a million right now.

True be told, this is the reason Marketers only want to post Bullshots and Bulldemos. Otherwise the worst of the worst first images will be re-purposed to put down a game long after release.

Mise well post the E3-Beta Killzone Shadow Fall level and get it over with.
