Bikini Baristas to sue over bikini ban, says violates constitutional rights

so instead of cracking down harder on perverts, let's make the women cover up?

isnt this in the same vein as "men can't control themselves so make the women cover up" or "she shouldn't have been wearing such a short skirt"? i agree it sounds like an issue but making women cover up isn't the way to go

I didn't say I agree with the methodology, just explaining the actual problem. As usual local government is doing brain surgery with oven mitts.

So reading a bit more, it sounds like they cracked down on strip clubs, so they then proceeded to open these places and basically operate them as strip clubs (which can, by extension, turn into brothels). It looks like they've gotten to the point basically where no one operates them solely as what they're supposed to be (Hooters with less clothes and coffee), so they're trying to find a way to ban them outright. Which seems like it's going to be difficult unless they can frame it around food safety laws.

This is designed to stop prostitution and public masturbation, both things that are absolutely rife in the "bikini barista industry"

The people passing the ordnance aren't prudes, they are just tired of truck drivers jerking off on aurora avenue which, amazingly is a legitimate problem in and around seattle.

The whole thing is sad from top to bottom, if you will pardon the pun.

Is Aurora Avenue a porn actress?

I haven't heard of her before.

The strip club in Everett that was shut down likely directly led to the creation of these stands, yes, it's former strippers who ran the places.

However that club in Everett was also home to lots of prostitution, and was linked to organized crime in Seattle.

It wasn't merely "cracking down on strip clubs."

This is how we get laws against women showing their ankles.

See the post below yours and tastefully sandwiched above mine.

I saw. Make prostitution busts, then.
I'm disappointed to see you being such a sad NIMBY.

It's always a lot easier to crack down on suppliers than consumers.

but if people masturbating in public and fingering these girls is such a common occurrence that schoolkids regularly see it it should be easy enough to nail some of these customers on indecent exposure laws and the like

Man, I went to one of those places and all I got was a coffee. The employees were nice. Is there a secret code word or something? Just curious.

A properly regulated strip club/brothel would probably be a decent solution as opposed to this weird thing. That article posted above is fucked.

maybe u have to look like a gross trucker to see pussy

A NIMBY? You know Stinkles is a regular at his local bikini barista joint, Tiffany knows exactly what he's going to order.

If we're going to be honest, strip clubs and prostitution are going to go hand-in-hard pretty often, so it's not a shock that there was a lot of prostitution coming out of a strip club. The link to organized crime is probably more damning and what got the original place shut down. Then again, I'm one of those pro-sex work people that thinks we need to lighten up about prostitution.

I think the instagram link posted above said something about "blended protein" being on order. I don't want to go back and check because I just ate dinner.

They do. Problem is that cops don't have time to deal with loophole prostitution when they could be ticketing me for California stops or harassing black guys. The people paying the legal bills in this case are actual pimps btw. So there's that.

Well the question is a) do people think the government violated constitutional rights

If yes, would the courts take into consideration that these rights were violated for a good cause such as trying to stop prostitution

There is a place like this in Tampa.... I can't remember the name. Drive through coffee spot and the chicks have on lingerie ....

I had no idea these were a thing.

I thought this title was supposed to be a joke from Idiocracy or something.

Not the future we needed, but the one we deserved.

So they actually are prudes then? Or at the very least, behaving like one. What would be the scalpel and scrubs method of solving this brain surgery conundrum, in your opinion?

Strip club with coffee? Surely these ladies are there on their own free will and not being forced into this sort of practice because of a laundry list of reasons.

Maybe instead of worrying about who's a prude, we should be concerned about the victims of this process.

I discovered this last year. It's lingerie girls making you coffee. There is a sub reddit for this.

There's a subreddit for everything lol.

Yes, because if someone is a sex worker it must mean they're doing it against their will.

Washington state has long been tough as fuck on the sex industry. They make strip clubs jump through endless bullshit to operate and tried to kill them off by making it impossible for them to serve booze. Didn't work because people still want to see naked women, but the amount of times inspectors would come up with some bullshit to harass the club I worked at was ridiculous. They made them buy a lift for the stage because they threatened to shut the club down unless they had a way for a handicapped worker to get on stage and demanded it be an expensive, humongous, and impractical lift. Which we had to trot out every so often to prove it worked so they wouldn't shut us down. We never got a stripper in a wheelchair, but the lift was always ready just in case.

Our shame over human body its so immature

WTF if we taught people to be comfortable with skin form the outset people wouldn't even bat an eye at this shit

I agree law is poorly written and unenforceable. If something can't be enforced, then it shouldn't be law.

Same applies to things like transgender bans and Muslim bans and anything discriminatory. No rational, objective standard, no law.

So they closed down the strip clubs, and that activity moved to these bikini baristas on the streets. Then they pass this ordinance, and next it will be bikini newsstands instead of coffee (if they can somehow convince the courts that they can regulate what people can wear. Pretty sure there's no precedent for a health issue here as food is served in strip clubs and topless bars across the nation.) This is why prohibition doesn't work. They are only making it worse. Better to have places for this sort of thing where it isn't in places that you don't want it to be.

Also, I always thought the amount of strip club tourism we get in Portland from Seattle was bizarre. Both strip club goers and strippers flock down for the weekend for the clubs. Seattle's view on strip clubs is a strange conservative bend in an otherwise liberal forward thinking city.

Yeah, you're right. We should just assume sex workers have agency, ignore the evidence about all the other shit around the industry, like pimps, and should be more concerned about government overreach.

Mah rights!

It's these assumptions and overreactions that lead to people wanting to use an axe when they should be using a scalpel.

Have you actually met any sex workers? Talked to them?

Cause I fucked a lot and in a regulated environment at least they did it from their own will. Do they feel financial pressure to work? Yes but that counts for other shit jobs too. This is their way to make ends meet for the single moms, for the young girls it's a fast way to earn cash.
So yes there is a lot of forced prostitution but not in the way that you think. Economic reform is the best anti prostitution measure.
