$80 Nintendo Switch 2 games & Xbox Series consoles prices going well about PS5 prices ( For now anyways).
Sure it's likely that Sony will follow suit but thanks to the size of PS5's user base they shouldn't have to raise the price of software. Also thanks to the rate that PS5 is selling it's actually worth it to do another die shrink to keep the manufacturing cost down.
I guess we will learn what path PlayStation will take in the upcoming financial report.
Do you think PlayStation will use this chance to further grow their user-base or will they jump on the $80 Game Train ?

I would have expected the pro to have the larger discount, it's an interesting decision.
Probably gonna be white + old unsold models.
This feels like a way to ramp up demand for PS5 Slim and get the PS5 Pro going in Europe and MENA, since it appears to be moving the slowest there. And maybe clear out some unsold inventory stock for the accessories.
That doesn't compute. They should be increasing prices in hardware like our friend Phil at friendly, neighborhood Microsoft.

How are they doing this? Instead of increasing prices they will offer discounts? That doesn't compute. They should be increasing prices in hardware like our friend Phil at friendly, neighborhood Microsoft.
I think Microsoft just removed their hardware subsidies and blamed tariffs for it.That doesn't compute. They should be increasing prices in hardware like our friend Phil at friendly, neighborhood Microsoft.
The discount amounts come out of the promotional budget. Sony is essentially paying itself and retailers the difference in order to create growth. How are they doing this? Instead of increasing prices they will offer discounts?

Because in past gens we got permanent price drops instead.Wow, I don't remember them doing such big discounts on consoles during Days of Play in the past years, usually only accessories and games are discounted.

Me too, I am not keen on subscriptions, but I must admit my library keeps getting bigger and bigger with the monthly free games. I don't understand why Microsoft scaled down its « games for gold » gamesThe only thing I'm interested in from days of play is some PS+ discount so I can re-up for a year.
I recall the Switch launch year being PS4's best year indeed. Won't happen this time, but interesting nonethelessThey forecasted 15 million units. They aren't getting there without pretty substantial discounting, especially without GTA6 releasing.
It's actually interesting timing. Maybe they're hoping to get people who struggle to find a Switch 2 at launch and find the pricing hard to pass up.
My theory: the delay of GTA 6 prevented a price increase in line with the competitors. They can't rely on that to keep selling Playstations.

Cobalt Blue and Volcanic Red are probably considered "old" at this point, so you're gonna likely find them discounted imo.Aw man, I wanted to replace my now defunct black DS with either a cobalt blue, volcanic red or chroma pearl...
I can find them for 69€ from 3rd party sellers BUT, this time I'm gonna go with Amazon for their hassle-free returns (and extra warranty) but...they go for 80€ ATM over there (which I'm absolutely not willing to spend).
Let's see what happens on Monday...
Cheers
They will have to contend with Switch 2's launch with no 'killer app' of their own besides DS2 or Ghost of Yotei (both are 2nd installments, which limits appeal). They forecasted 15 million units. They aren't getting there without pretty substantial discounting, especially without GTA6 releasing.

This is why I don't really think they're gonna increase pricing in the US unless they're cornered. They want as much of that Xbox share as possible.I can see where your confusion is because the post doesn't seem 1:1 with this subject.
That being said he was kind of talking about some salient points many of us have brought up in the past to dispell the idea that it was a guarantee that Sony would follow Microsoft through these price hikes immediately.
Sony has their own roadmap and they're still trying to sell consoles. They're at 77 million units, looking to add 15 million units this fiscal year, and probably the same or more the following fiscal year. By March 2027, they'll be looking at 107 million units sold. With a long tail, Sony might see the wisdom in dieshrinking the PS5 and selling it for lower prices for a longer period of time.
So where does this news fit in? It's a signal that Sony is still going to be aggressive about gaining marketing share at a time where the vast majority of the internet was doing the SonyToo meme about pricing. It's a small stretch, but I get his point.
I don't think this is how any price increase works. If anything they want to keep PS5s desirable because Xbox still exists and will get GTA6 as well.My theory: the delay of GTA 6 prevented a price increase in line with the competitors. They can't rely on that to keep selling Playstations.

Xbox helped them out by discarding the hardware subsidy entirely, now they have to land the killer blow, so to speak.
Yup they are frothing from the mouth for Sony to raise the prices.Although things have calmed down in recent days, I've never seen so much enthusiasm on Twitter and in some media outlets for Sony to raise the prices of consoles and games so they can rest easy and be able to say "SonyToo."

2016 was PS4's best calendar year.I recall the Switch launch year being PS4's best year indeed. Won't happen this time, but interesting nonetheless
You're right, I always forget it's the financial year ending 31 March 2017, not 2017 by itself2016 was PS4's best calendar year.
It's Days of Play. Sony did the same thing last year.
