Billbill-kun: Horizon Lego is day 1 on PC and PS5

I just didn't expect Sony to put their games out on Xbox platforms Day 1.

Oh that ship sailed all the way back in 2021. They even had the PS Studios and San Diego logos on the box.

To be fair, that's just a baseball game, the worst sport on the planet.

Horizon though, that's like Sony's absolute #1 franchise of all time. Their CEO's prized possession. That would be like Mario on Xbox day 1.

There was a rumor a while back that there was a Horizon MMO type game similar to Monster Hunter.

I wonder if that's what this is.

Jim Ryan said a while back that they would evaluate each and every individual game and make the move that makes the most sense. You won't see every single PS game ported to PC, just like there will be some nuance in the way certain games are delivered.

In the case of Lego Horizon, it isn't a game that's a tentpole, it's just a spin-off and there might also be contractual obligations with Lego to release it on PC. It makes sense to launch this as a multiplatform release. Likewise, I would expect a game like Killzone to also be multiplat out of the gate even if it's not strictly GAAS because shooters tend to live and die by their multiplayer and they would want to implement a strong player base from the start.

This changes nothing. Their next big AAA game will not be on PC Day 1. It will take at least a year, but some gaffers are allergic to nuance and common sense and would rather platform war.

I really wish my sarcasm detector was going off right now. But sadly it says no lies detected. :messenger_sad_relieved:

Lmfao dude do you stop to think that they may be in the same situation as MLB

The amount of hopium based on a licensed game is comical

Spider Man is also a licensed game. We don't need to make excuses for this, it is what it is. An SIE published game on PC day 1.

It's also a big tent pole game and Sony has full control over that property in gaming due to a contract that dates back to the early 2000s, unlike Lego which required a new contract agreement

Why isn't SM2 on PC yet?

Do you know when the Lego contract was signed and what its specifics are?

Seriously what is the difference between this and MLB the Show?

Did Sony go Day 1 with other games on Xbox just like they presumably will after LEGO Horizons on PC?

They best thing Playstation has to offer right now is the LEGO version of a mildly successful franchise. Not even one of their best ones.

Sad.

It's slowly but surely with the fake promises that people stay in the ecosystem.
Well it's been said in the other thread that Sony are publishing it, so it's up to them what platforms to put it on.

I think the main concern is for if/when a Sony first party studio game is released day one on PC, not really if a third party releases on PC also (even if it's a first party IP). I can see that, it's Sony's first party in house developed games that are what helps drive sales of their platform. But it suits a narrative one way or the other.

Is there a reason why people are so desperate for it to not be a Playstation game, when it is literally a game published by Playstation and feature a prominent Playstation IP?

I'm don't know, one can only assume based on this being day and date on pc

It's also not a Sony developed game, so not first party studios

Rise of Ronin isn't a Sony developed game but is widely considered a1P title because it's published by SIE, my friend the fake Heisenberg007 Heisenberg007 has quoted me multiple times to tell me that, even.

Lego Horizon is not only published by them, it's also based on their IP.

This is a weird situation. Is a Sony studio developing this game?

We don't know whose developing it, but seeing as its a Lego game, most likely Travelers Tales.

So if this is true, it basically means Herman & Hideki lied.

I can't wait to see the Cult of Herman-Hideki come out to defend this move. You know, the same ones who were adamant non-GAAS for big titles would never come to PC, then changed that to Never Day 1, and will undoubtedly change that again if this rumor becomes true.

I sure as hell won't be one of those defending blatant hypocrisy. Didn't do that with Microsoft, why would I do that with SIE/Sony?

Only all the remakes, the Lego games, and the GAAS games. The rest are later, possibly.

At this point I'm just waiting for the "no PC version until January 2025" fine print for Astro Bot.

Doesn't even matter if "the rest" isn't Day 1; the windows between versions could get shrunk and that would still be a blatant hypocrisy vs. what was said at the business update (that is what I'm calling it) on May 30th.

Starting to look like we lost a real one in favor of two Phil Spencers at SIE 😢

Optics - the way in which an event or course of action is perceived by the public.

Yep. This is how it starts. I mean it's only a new game in the Horizon series, the series that's already sold like 30 million copies between two installments. Just a small rinky-dink IP nobody knows about (/s).

Also my question is, if Lego Horizon is Day 1 on PC, why not make Astro Bot Day 1 on PC too? Why keep that exclusive to PS5 at this point? Now we're gonna have to sit through insufferable media asking that question for the next 3-4 months leading up to Astro's release.

Well I'd much prefer it if Guerrilla were developing it but it seems that won't be the case, so a highly possible purchase has changed into a highly unlikely purchase.

Way too much arguing over petty details.

It's not nothing but it's also not a complete reversal on what Hulst said. It's (yet another) small needle move, a very good one they can take a look at.

lets not act like if Mario Rabbids was PC day one that the internet wouldnt be going crazy.

Horizon and Alloy is obviously a big franchise push for Sony and they are putting this on PC day one.

I can imagine that in the future when more games come to PC day one there will always be "It's only X game so this doesnt really count"

The tale of two extremes. Nothing will ever "count" vs "anything counts". It's bullshit either way. I'm just not going to get excited about a Lego spinoff. When a proper Sony first party game from a first party studio hits PC day one then I'll celebrate. This? Nah......this ain't it.
