More plot twists then anybody could have anticipated!
Capcom's 4th chapter of the Resident Evil series has finally gone gold, and a copy was sent to us. We finished the game, and replayed it multiple times just to take in the twists of the ending!
Be warned: Major spoilers ahead
You have survived hordes of ganado. You have protected Ashley from being recaptured by the cultists. You have explored sprawling areas, from the village, to the graveyard, to the mines, to the castle. With the help of the Lady in Red, you have thwarted the Village Chief's plans and sidestepped the possible disaster of Luis' betrayal. The story is far from over, however, as the final battle awaits. A battle with a figure that has merely been alluded to. A figure shrouded in mystery, whose maniacal genius knows no bounds.
If you haven't figured it out yet, the final boss is Wesker. Leon approaches Albert Wesker, who has been holed up in the labs beneath the castle. He tells of how his company HCF came up with a new way for turning humans into bioweapons. Suddenly, a loud noise echoes through the hallway, as a mysterious figure comes out and reveals himself to be BARRY! Wesker falls to the floor, shot in the neck. As his body crumbles at Leon's feet, sparks begin to fly. This Wesker was an android! Barry then reveals, as he nonchalantly twirls his Colt Python, that the real Albert Wesker died in the Arklay Mountain facility. His body was then duplicated by HCF after retrieving a tissue sample, and Barry was ordered to destroy his clone by none other than... Umbrella. The traitor!
Barry goes on to explain how Umbrella has been pulling the strings for the last six years. He explains that the government never actually destroyed them, but incorporated their best scientists to do research for the military. The external components were indeed destroyed, but with a license to work for the military and the government, they had all they needed... all they had ever wanted. "It doesn't matter if I tell you," he explains. "Because you're going to be a mutilated corpse at the bottom of the bay when I'm through with you." With a final twirl of his revolver, the battle is on.
Finding cover behind control panels and projector screens, you must cause enough damage to Barry to cause him to run out the door behind the throne. The battle steadily progresses, moving from dark, torch-lit chambers to the stereotypical helipad. By the time Barry's bullet-riddled body has made it to the helipad, he has mutated into a kind wolf-like monster.
Just then, a computer-generated voice speaks the most dreaded words in the Resident Evil universe over the compound's loud speakers: "Self-destruct sequence has been activated. All personnel must evacuate immediately." A five-minute timer is shown on screen, and the battle rages on.
At this point, your various weaponry should be running fairly low on ammo. When you think the beast just won't die, the call of a familiar voice comes from behind you. Ada Wong tosses you a rocket launcher, and the deed is done.
In the final cutscene, the three of you find your way to a small boat. Luckily the boat is fueled, and the keys are in. A few corny lines later, the three of you ride off into the rising sun, as the entire facility is engulfed in flames behind you.
