So I'm interested in playing this as I loved BI, however I never actually finished Bioshock 1 (got about a third of the way through, save got messed up and I just never went back to it). Is this still worth playing as someone who won't have the same attachment/knowledge of Rapture?

Happened to me too after I used the lift to go downstairs and then tried to walk up again. If you've used the lift you can avoid the door by climbing on the fallen trashcan to jump back in.

Playing on 1999 mode, fuck this is hard. Nowhere near enough ammo, but I am loving it so far, great atmosphere. I assume I am almost done with it.

Man, there are a lot of Audrey Hepburn lookalikes in Rapture. Musta' been making good use of some contraband movies or something.

Also, like the callout to the splicer with the revolver in the first game. It's a nice touch.

Wow this is really stupid hard. They really don't give you enough ammo to deal with some encounters. :/

It's making it really unenjoyable because I keep dying, and I'm only on hard.

LOL, I see that the NPC's don't do anything. I don't really blame Irrational, I think technology isn't quite there yet to give us that kind of interaction.

Just finished this today. took me around 3.5 hours. played on medium.

I liked it. I think if you’re someone who never liked Rapture then you wouldn’t care about this much but I liked browsing around and checking out the place before the combat started.

Combat was decent. It’s Bioshock-y but with less weapon ammo and less Eve. I understand the lack of ammo but I wished there was more Eve around as the powers really liven up the combat for me.

Ending was badass. Really looking forward to Episode 2 now. thumbs up from me.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Finished. Meh. Transparent and relentless enemy spawn scripting whenever you leave/re-enter areas. Damage stacking is still dumb, made more obvious when Eve/ammon is in short supply. Don't really care for Rapture (not a criticism of the DLC, mind you, but me), and didn't feel its presentation here was anything particularly noteworthy. Too short to flesh out exploration and the new equipment. Final boss encounter was easy to cheese. Story well presented I guess, but seems to be adding further pulp to Infinite's timeline mumbo jumbo, and too short to develop anything significantly memorable.

Not for me. Will play episode two to see how it ends and because I have the season pass, so it would be silly not to. But at this point I'm regretting buying the season pass because the content just isn't what I'm interested in playing.

Pro tip. Invest in possession.

The possessed splicer distracts everyone, and then you can melee the possessed splicer for an easy clean up kill.

Yeah I've gotten a better hand of things now. I'm just so used to spamming Vigors everywhere from the Infinite campaign. :p

Time to stretch my 780's legs! All pics are at ultra quality with DX11 DDoF enabled running at 4k (3840x2160) downsampled to 1080p:

Some of them have the in game AA turned on and some do not, see if you can tell which ;)
And then this for the lulz to show how busted the UI scale is when downsampling from 4k:

Game runs surprisingly well like this, hovering around 40 FPS or so, so definitely playable.

Really enjoying it so far. I'm enjoying the combat a lot more than Infinite, in fact, I've been stealthy more often than not just using the grabber to get some kills from behind.

Exploration feels a lot better aswell, some backtracking involved but I'm more than fine with that.

Art direction is up to usual Irrational standard, which is amazing. I've just reached the
Housewares
part and I'm stopping for the night.

It's a nice bit of content so far, although it does make me miss the gameplay systems of the original. I miss being able to hack turrets, sentry bots, security cameras, control a Big Daddy and use the environment to my benefit, I know you can do that with possession of course, but it's never permanent and the effect doesn't last long enough. Every encounter in that game, whether it be splicers or a Big Daddy felt more about survival.

Wtf Irrational, the Looking Glass code doesn't open the first code panel?! That's like, tradition dating all the way back to System Shock 1 that's just been broken v_v

Or it probably does once you actually "find" the code during some scripted event >.>

Well then that certainly was an ending. Clocked in at a little over 2 hours, but I assume it would be a lot longer if I explored a bit more.

This seems to address the whole infinite universes issue about there being possible Comstocks that didn't end up making Columbia. Seems like Elizabeth is just hunting them all down now, which is... rather sinister. I suppose we'll get more answers in part 2.

I really do hope someone mods Infinite so that the weapon wheel in this can be used in the full game. I know nothing about mods and if that's even possible, but if Durante can do what he did with Dark Souls and Deadly Premonition, then you can do anything as far as I'm concerned. :p

I can't get the DLC to launch on Steam :(

WdBHw10.jpg

I have a GTX 670 and I'm running Windows 8.1
Using the latest Nvidia 331.65 drivers

Verifying the cache didn't help. DX11 is installed and working properly (checked through dxdiag and the fact that I can run BF4 etc.). Letting the game regenerate config files doesn't work. It doesn't seem to be a widespread problem for this DLC release although Google does throw up results from the past for the base game. There doesn't seem to be any particular solution from what I've been reading except people pointing to bad drivers from Nvidia (in the 31x.xx range). I doubt it would be a problem with the latest ones.

Anyone having this problem or can provide any insight?

I'm a little sick right now, so maybe it will effect my judgement. On the ending
What's the point of Elizabeth killing Comstock in Rapture if killing him at the baptizing was supposed to kill all Comcstocks everywhere?

-I agree that ammo and vigor did seem to be more scarce. I'm ok with that though. There was a spot that I had to be almost perfect with how I used them.
-The microwave gun is my favorite weapon ever I think lol.
-A couple of times Elizabeth just disappears and reappears, not from a story point but a buggy game.

If you're a fan of the series, I think you'll enjoy some of the callbacks. It doesn't really add anything new though.

Edit:

Jumping to the end of this thread, but I'm seeing screens with gunplay in them -- wasn't this first episode supposed to be "no combat, all exploration?"

No, only the first 'part' of episode one. The second part of episode one is combat heavy.

On my playthrough, I would say non-combat accounted for 40 percent of the game.

I'm a little perplexed at some of the "it's so short" (like someone said 1.5 hours earlier - how? did you sprint the entire time? lol). I've been playing for around 4 hours and still not done. Been taking my time and exploring completely. Because of the reviews and what people said, I expected to be done far sooner. It's a lot larger than I thought it would be. In any case, I'm really enjoying it. :)

Ah, OK, thanks for the clarification. I actually loved the shoot-and-loot "loop" in Infinite, so I'm cool with there being combat. I was just curious about how it's divided up. So basically the first half or third is like Booker's arrival in Columbia, walking around and getting lost in the world, and then the rest of the episode is the usual back-and-forth of combat, scavenging, upgrading and world lore, correct?

Correct.

However, the combat isn't as head on as infinite. It's more calculated and slower paced.

The other mechanics, such as vigors, upgrading, scavenging rewards are toned down considerably.

Strange thing is, a friend of mine told me he was having the same issue while my DLC was still downloading. And he just bought a new 780. I mocked his situation by calling his 780 a fake.

Fucking karma.

Just finished. Something like 2 hours. I tried exploring but I know I missed a good number of the pickups.

I actually kind of liked the fights. Having limited ammo and mana means a little more strategy and a little less run and gun.

I'm kind of dense but I don't really get the ending and how it lines up considering the main game's ending. I''ll mull it over a bit.

Not the same problem, but I can't even get the game to launch properly. It shows the black screen, and loading in the top right, but then it just stays black. No sound, no nothing.

Incredibly frustrating, I don't know what else to try. Never had this problem with the game in the past.

I even tried running the benchmark, and that worked fine.

Finished in about three hours. Think I agree with the "meh" reviews the major publications have been giving it.

It's just so... unnecessary. The infinite universe idea from Infinite has turned into a crutch for Shyamalan-styled twists. Just another wrinkle in the story of Rapture that adds more inconsistencies than real texture.

Once again, we get a promise of spending real time in an environment and it's taken away after just a few minutes. The patrons of this city are entirely the same slack-jawed dolls that spout one-liners, just like we got in the main game. Once again, pointless fetch quests to pad out the length.

And what's the point of Booker going through this entire game? To make him remember he's a jerk? That feels way too flimsy an excuse... Could have been killed right there in the office and saved everyone trouble, especially since the girl really doesn't seem to matter at all to her. Elizabeth also really doesn't strike me as the kind of person to do the revenge schtick. What, she's going to kill Comstock in every universe, or just the ones where he's really mean to her?

Just beat it. I really enjoyed the DLC overall, and I clocked in around 4-5 hours on Hard. I took my time exploring and getting all audiologs (yay) and doing as much as I could. :) Rapture was gorgeous and the attention to detail is pretty impressive. Maybe I had lower expectations because of the reviews, but I liked it quite a bit.

As far as the story...

(Bioshock Infinite spoilers as well)

Damn, Elizabeth. You are a brutal bitch now. And I love it! :D lol. Although I am a little confused on what is going on exactly... I mean, what is she doing? And I didn't think Comstock existed anymore after she drowned all the Bookers in the original Bioshock Infinite? Is she trying to tie up any loose ends on an.. infinite universe type thing? Girl, you'll be busy for a long time if that's your goal. :p

Oh wait, maybe.. just some really dumb speculation, but.. what if she finds out that drowning Booker at the end of BI didn't solve all the problems (since he could opt to get a Baptism later or at a different time), so she's (and the Luteces) trying to find the exact moment where she could stop Comstock from stealing Anna instead. She tried to stop him during the tear incident, but all that ended up doing was getting her dead chopped off, lol. I can't think of any other reason for her to have been there watching Comstock pull baby Anna through the tear and telling him to stop. Unless, that was just Elizabeth bleeding into Comstock's flashback/memory recall and she wasn't really there. Hmmm.

Anyone else have any theories on what Elizabeth's goal is?

Yeah, I don't quite understand the set up of Comstock stealing Anna WHILE an adult Elizabeth is present

I'm assuming a lot of these questions will be answered in Part 2, especially considering that we'll be controlling Elizabeth.
