I still have to play bioshock 2...

I was kinda burned out after the first one even if i loved it, so hearing that the second one was just more of the same kinda killed any hype...

yeah it's totally missable but still a fun time

fun fact, it's actually the most backlogged game on howlongtobeat lmfao, I think that says more than I ever could.

Bioshock Infinite is the best game of the decade, period.

Just right alongside Zelda: BoTW, Skyrim, Last of Us (don't know about RDR2 as I haven't played it, but I believe the ratings). GTA V is "crap" and Witcher 3 is the most overrated.

I only played Bioshock 1 and Infinite. Did not like Infinite. Never liked the stories that involved time travel and parallel worlds.

And it was not that atmospheric in the late stages of the game, unlike the beginning. Maybe Inxile will be able to deliver proper steampunk or whatever.

Mainly it just did not feel like a Bioshock game to me, the tonics were lame and boring, it felt like a run and gun game, the gear system was just rubbish, to many things, i really struggled to finish it, unlike the first two which i loved to bits.
yeah I think it might of alienated alot of the people who played the games for the RPG mechanics. I loved it so much tho, maybe you should give it an other chance.

lol I don't know if I'd say that, but it's pretty fucking good alright.

no, 100% done with that, hopefully, there will be a 4th one on the horizon, but i pray it goes back to 1 or 2 direction.

it's certianly an easy topic to fuck up, and they didn't exactly handle it brilliantly lol.

Watched my wife play through this one about three weeks ago. Seemed alright, but it's missing a lot of what I loved about Bioshock. Seemed like way more just hectic shooter gameplay, and that's not necessarily what I wanted from the series. Pretty cool game though.
There’s so much more than shooting. My memories from the game include tons of exploring, finding item stashes and just soaking in the amazing atmosphere of the game.

sounds like you’re only remembering the shooting bits, or you’re wife just didnt stop to do anything else.

I enjoyed it a lot back in the day. The divisiveness back then was right around the time I stopped caring about reviews or forum hot takes and quit arguing about games, movies etc online. I’ve got the time and money to check out a lot of stuff and have more fun just doing that, enjoying what I enjoy, dropping what I don’t, maybe sharing some quick thoughts and moving on to the next.

lol well said. yeah man good for you, its a really beautiful and the gunplay can actually be pretty fun, it's just kind of shallow. i had mega fun zipping around on the sky lines though.

just take your time with it man. put on some headphones and really try to take in the atmosphere of the game, its one of the best ive experienced.

Hated the gameplay in all of them, but God damn did they have cool settings. Youtube games.

Hope Ken Levine is almost ready with his next game FFS.

Yeah I definitely will. I should mention that I have kind of played it I guess, and I did think it was fun. My wife couldn't beat the end of the game on that shit where you had to take down those zeppelins and there dudes trying to destroy your ship. She's usually pretty competent with games, but she just couldn't do that for whatever reason, so she asked me to beat it lol. I just don't know that I think that counts as "playing the game", but that part that I played was pretty damn fun lol. But that's all I've checked out of it. I did immediately dig that zip line thing and coming down on folks for air strikes and shit, that was rad.

Same. Even the tacked on politics sucked.

yep, i am actually mystified that people found the game good, i mean, everyone has their own opinion but to me this game is way of the mark, i mean, this is one of my greatest disappointment of all time in gaming.

We are talking diablo2 - diablo3 here.

I am happy people that played it, like it but for me, it misses everything that makes Bioshock great.

I loved the end of BaS part 2. Made me wistful that it would be the last time I'd see the fade to black to the Irrational Games logo.

I thought the story was stuffed up its on ass and the 2 gun mechanic was dumb.

But the gunplay was on point and the violence was lovely.

Glad you liked it.

people seem to have struggled at that part alot, but I didn't die once during it lol. The only hard part was Lady Comstock, she can fuck right off.

Story was so interesting! I didn’t care much for the combat at the end of the game though.. IMO tedious and really hurt the overall experience for me.
I still realllly liked it though, but I loved Bioshock 1 & 2.

One of my favorite games of all time. The soundtrack was incredible and the best part of the game imo, Mozart ftw, and the way they introduced "modern" music into the game was AWESOME! Will the Circle be Unbroken...phenomenal stuff.

Saw my wife play through that part, and yeah I called shenanigans on that bullshit. She was getting pissed lol.

I've always loved Infinite , I thought it was robbed for GOTY that year by the last of us. I really didn't see the problem that people had with it , and I'm someone who got the original bioshock on release day in 2007

I wish I'd posted this at like your first or second reply or something... it is AWESOME to have seen a take on this game that was innocent of forum flame influenced pre-conceptions. I think Infinite was magical, not the greatest game I've ever played, but fantastic and magical. Much love.

2 while it's good and I really liked it, is a totally skippable game lol. What was 2013's best game do you think?
TLOU but that could be nostalgia talking, Infinite has probably aged better.

Infinite has such a unique and beautiful world, probably my favourite ever. I loved all the twists and turns in the story too.

I like how they honored the rapture, and think it’s 2K’s greatest game also I wouldn’t have played it without PS Plus so that’s a nod to SONY.

Oh crap, I forgot about the dlc! I have the collection so it should be there.

Guess I'll play through the games again and do it.

i totally agree with OP, the game is awesome

i've gone back and forth on the story over the years. but i recently replayed it and thought the story was very well done.
in many ways it seems to be a twist on "mythic America is an evil place and we must kill the white man for creating so much suffering" which is a narrative that has taken an overly-simplified, violent turn as of late, but back when this game was created, i think it was a little ahead of it's time. it's also a little deeper than that. i can see them making a game, wanting to do Reconstruction-era style, then realizing all the "problematic" elements from America's past, and instead of ignoring it, embracing it, and commenting on it. but definitely if someone tried to do the same nowadays, it would have a whole nother feeling to it. it would be way more heavy handed. you couldn't make this game after 2016.

it is funny that when the game came out all the critics were saying "I wish we didn't have to kill anyone, whole game should have been a walking simulator", almost mimicking Comstock's lofty aspirations for his paradise city in the sky. "why couldn't this mass murderer have made a nice non violent walking simulator?" it actually misses the point entirely. there was no way to clean the blood off his hands, after participating in massacres against Native and Asian Americans, yet he wanted to create a paradise anyways. only fitting that violence would perpetuate something he created.

at first i also thought the game was poking fun at religion, now, i think it is used in a much more subtle and nuanced way. when Booker arrives and is given the chance to baptize himself, he declines it. "good luck with that" he says. but that isn't mocking the concept of forgiveness itself, it is revealing that HE has accepted that he is beyond redemption. he doesn't offer forgiveness to himself (this choice is made literally at the start of a campaign where he is essentially killing himself). his daughter coming to the same conclusion at the end is quite ironic, and also entirely thematic. from the very start of the game, Booker is on a mission to kill himself, mowing through squads of sky police, who deserve no redemption, according to his own morality. he is all-consuming.

just a minute or two after he refuses to clean his own hands, he is forced into baptism to enter the city. he actually passes out from this, which is echoed in the final scene, where Elizabeth is the one doing the "baptizing". in each case, he is judged by his own creation, whether it is the mythos of flying city itself, or his daughter who he sold off. he can run, he can hide, but there is a moral arc of the universe, and even if he refuses to take absolution, that will not save him from the consequences of his own actions. it took me a few times playing through to get all this!

the timey wimey stuff i found less compelling. who the twins are doesn't interest me tbh. played through the DLC but could barely pay attention.

Really dull combat/gameplay, and the writing was just shit. But it looked nice. Overall it was nowhere near as good as the first 2 Bioshock's, and they were nowhere near as good as System Shock 2.

Man, I thought the writing(next to art direction and music) was it's best feature. What didn't you like about it?

I don't really remember the comabt changing much by the end of the game, other than it getting way harder, but maybe it just doesn't scale well.

woah fuck, that makes so much sense now lol. The games story is almost like a Kuberick film, it's gonnae be discussed for years and years. Though don't mistake that for exactly a compliment haha

thanks lol, I was somewhat concerned when I was going to start the game that I wouldn't like it because of what I'd heard, but I quickly forgot about it.

also I'd wannae reply to all these comments but jesus theres so many lmao, thank u all.

Man I revisited infinite and I got bored. Funny because I loved my first playthrough when it came out. I think the hectic gunplay just doesn't compete with what we have today. The slow pace more forward planning (setting traps for big daddy's and stuff, I love making piles of red canisters or rows of cable traps) gunplay of 1 and 2 have aged better. The exploration of the beautiful environments seems more hollow and narrow than I remember as well.

this was rlly fun, 1998 mode is such a unique challenge for this game, it slows the pace way down and it’s so much more tense.

Really really did not like this one.

Got a lot of high reviews at the time which is the first time I questioned reviews on general.

Glad you're enjoying it OP. It certainly has its moment.

Amazing game, probably the best Bioshock game, one of the best of last gen, and one of the best of all time.

Anyone who doesn't see this as a masterpiece doesn't know diddly shit.

I enjoyed the hell out of this in the first half. I remember the intro being just as memorable as the first Bioshock. The bloody hand print on the wall, the staircase... it felt so well paced and ominous.
I lost a lot of interest as it went on, and I was a mix of impressed and confused by the end of it all. I admit that all the negative talk may have colored my perception a tad in retrospect as well.

I have very similar thoughts regarding the first half of the game. The world design and the atmosphere were top notch. However, I remember souring on the game after it started delving deeper into the time travel BS. I remember specifically some character named Chen and you end up going through a time rift which causes the entire world to change. It was at that moment that the game kind of lost me.
