The PvP system punishes players to the extreme in Korea because Korean players aren't as big on PvP as the US is. The karma system is being reworked for release here to be more subtle.

Is there any reason to kill other players though?
Like can you get loot or anything for it? It sounds like it is only negatives.

You will be wanting to stay out of melee range as much as possible if you are a Ranger, ESPECIALLY in PvP. Don't ever, ever, ever let a Berserker or something get close to you or it is lights out.

You have to understand, the game is like a fighting game - the game has a combo system with L/R mouse click + WASD. You chain together attacks and use the 1/2/3/4 + as extra abilities in your attacks.

I've been looking for information, and I think melee attacks for the Ranger come from moving backwards and hitting left click. So it's a "get away from me" type of attack.

Try and play both! With how energy will work in this game where your family shares a cap but each character has their own supply, your experience will improve if you have multiple characters to increase your energy cap and to also do something when you're out of energy on one character.

Thanks guys! Yeah I'll make two characters. Hell it's a beta, it's time to test shit if characters don't carry over (I think i did read here they don't).

I just saw a video of a Sorcerer with a Scythe and... yeah, that settle what class I'll try first.

So have people played the game yet? Like another poster said, I'm afraid of getting hyped up for this game due to me getting the ArcheAge founder pack and being pretty disappointed with how the game felt. I used to be this person who played every MMORPG that came out (late 90 until the lame WoW clones started coming out). But stopped once the genre started becoming geared toward people who just wanted to play them alone and rush to the end.

Is it going to feel like another ArcheAge? I'm not really 100% sure on how to explain what that even means other than just having a million different things on the screen with text messages constantly bombarding you and just this super linear progression where you level up every 3 minuets with the same 8 quests in the next town over.

Can anyone shed some light on how the game feels overall? Like is it a run from place to place in a hurry to level? Or do you do a lot of hanging around and finding by word of mouth, the best places to fight monsters, etc?

Right now the only MMORPG that seems to be what I'm looking for is Pantheon (from Brad McQuaid of Everquest fame). And the development of that game seems pretty unstable.

Worth noting, the character creator you can download right now saves styles you can import into CBT2 and Launch.

And we just got word today that the CBT2 client is not needed to be deleted for the launch. YUS.

I've played on the KR version, but stopped early due to the game's translation patch being pretty terrible. I'd rather wait for this English client, and from what I played, it was pretty awesome.

It's going to feel like what ArcheAge should have been. All UI elements can be turned off or minimized, resized, you name it. Quests are varied and unique, some will having you doing things like rescue a cat from on top of a building, to escorting NPCs through hostile territory, to carrying back goats safely to their pens.

In terms of "how it feels overall", it depends on what you want to do. There's TONS of things to do in the game, don't treat it like a themepark MMO. There's quests and stuff yeah, but there's also fishing, gardening, horse taming (and breeding to sell for money!) and much much more. Don't take this type of game as a "rush to max level" game. The only thing you cannot do in the game until max level is PVP and that's on purpose to let players level in peace.

On the topic of fishing, gardening, etc, how is it compared to AA? Is it complex? Does making something always require a million different things and stuff like that?

Just a note, I gotten that many keys claimed from your IP warning but a brand new key was also there. Maybe you guys are just not noticing the key?

It is definitely a game you can rush to the soft cap to pretty fast, especially if you are good atthe game. A skilled player can grind groups much higher level then themself and gain XP insanely fast. The game absolutely has a ton of stuff to do other than just grind, though.

You are dropped in, taught a few things, but after that you can go your own way. The only quests you need to do are the black spirit ones because if you don't you will eventually be capped at lvl 49. Keep in mind, crafting, fishing, horse breeding etc all gains you exp as well. Crafting/trading can be quite involved as well.

You need a lot of mats but the game has a system in where you can hire workers to gather for you. You buy a house in a city (the bigger the house, the more workers you can house), and then go out and try to find nodes for what you need and connect them in a line back to your house. Don't forget to buy a warehouse to store the stuff your workers get for you, as well. Also you have to make booze for them or they will stop working lol. That is for the bulk stuff, lots of things you need to go find the mobs that drop whatever item you need. Controlling certain nodes also helps with drop rates on stuff so they are nice to have for regular old grinding as well.

It's not that complex, but the actual ACT of fishing itself is more fun than ArcheAge. Rods can break, etc. Gardening is similar as well. There's actually different things to worry about than in ArcheAge considering gardening. Crops have humidity/water/sunlight values, so you have to actually prioritize where to plant them in the world. On the world map, you can view the humidity values of the land like it's weather.com or something lol

About that, I created a character but it told me the name was already taken. Are people alreadt uploading their characters to the server?

I'll just state again to help people understand how this game is, think of it as a modern day Ultima Online.

Yes it's not 1:1 but its more akin to that in that you are just in the world, there's no "go to this zone, level to this level, go to next zone, level to this level" etc. There are quests and cities, etc. but its not like that.

The character creator client names are NOT reservations for actual character names. Either preorder and reserve your character and family name, or wait until you buy the game to create your character and hope the name isn't taken. Since the CBT2 client will merge into full launch, i don't know if CBT2 names will be final or not, but i will be testing existing names that i wanted that have been taken after name reservations opened up. If they are not taken, it means that CBT2 names are also instanced with JUST the beta

No you just need to save the character creation in the bottom left corner, you can't actually name and creat the character. That's just a way to make a character and save the template.

Ah ok, I think the problem is that I'm stupid and put the name I wanted for the character as a creator name, and I guess both can't be the same.... Can't see where to change the creator name now.

And yes you can have boats and wagons and even hitch your horse to the wagon to level it up while you take trade packs between towns!

Making people mad and ruining their day has been the core of open world ganking since it existed in MUDs, then UO, then DAOC and the like.

I can't think of a better reason.

The karma system is put into the game to discourage just ganking over and over and over again. It's an anti-grief system. It allows two players to flag up and duel to the death, with no karma loss. It allows players who get revenge on those who ganked them with penalties to the negative karma player.

In later updates, there will be a town where negative karma players can gather and vice-versa, as well as bounty hunting. Bounty targets are family-wide, meaning that if you switch to another character, you still are marked for death.

For sure, I enjoyed player killing in games like WoW just for the fun of it.
But there also weren't negatives to it.
The way open world PVP was described in one of the videos, it sounded like you would never ever want to do it. Like a high risk, zero reward system.
If it is a lot more balanced in the NA release, then that is cool, but I still would wonder if there is a benefit to equal the negatives.

There is literally duck hunting in this game

Yep, and there is literally whale hunting where it takes a long time just to weaken the whale. Moby Dick GAF group assemble! docbon was able to build a ferry during CBT1, and I almost fell off and drowned when we were exploring. Getting my boats up and running will be one of the first things I do when the game is out.

Yo I heard this game was mostly solo and requires a ton of dedication to get much out of it. No dungeons. I wanna play coop with my friends and don't want to play solo at all- is the solo thing true?

Solo quests can be done together, so if that is your thing, it can be done. Also, grouping up to kill mobs and such and especially in PVP is a better thing.

There are guild missions as well that the guild can do to earn money for the guild's contracts.

Is there going to be a GAF guild for this?

I went deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep into Archeage. Ran a guild from a 8 man pirate crew into the most powerful PvP guild on the server. I'm itching to get some of that same excitement without the responsibility of running a guild, and likely will invest the little time I have free into this game over the coming months. Pre purchased, and definitely excited.

However, my group of pals is doing the competitive Overwatch thing, so I'm all alone.

My wife has been talking this up for a while now. Looks pretty cool. Aside from pre-ordering, how would one go about getting a key? I'd love to give her a key so she can check it out and see if it's good for her.

A warning for when CBT2 goes live tomorrow: the first few areas where you're asked to kill X amount of mob type Y will be clusterfucks because everyone will be doing those quests.

Anybody know of a site still offering keys, or do one of you fine people have a spare or two? I have a couple buddies I'd like to play with this weekend, but my google-fu has turned up sites all with keys gone. :(

One of the best spots to find a last-minute key is this reddit thread sorted by newest posts. https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdeser...a_spare_key_for_cbt2_post_them_here/?sort=new

Note that these last-minute keys being given away get snatched up within minutes, so you'd have to actively be looking at that page and being faster than others.

I'm definitely heading up the GAF Guild for it. We can even have the ball as our logo!
