Black Friday 2014 |OT| Forget Thanksgiving, Black Friday starts after Halloween

This is the first year in 5 years that I will be able to enjoy Black Friday on a consumer level instead of a retail employee. I used to be a manager at Target for the past 5 years and the Holidays can be soul crushing. I quit in Feb of this year and work IT now, so I can run into Target and tear shit up along with the masses without having to worry about cleaning it up.

After working at Best Buy for Black Friday in 2009 (was hired a couple of weeks prior to it), 2010, and 2012, I'm pretty fine with not doing Black Friday this year >.>

Mainly looking for some PS4 and Wii U games that are on the cheap, but also snack a $30 PS+ card from Gamestop like they did last year (maybe it was $25?)

Also hoping to find some good blu rays since I have a PS4 now, also some cheap POP Funko Figures, while also Christmas shopping for others

My parents always brought me up with a large Christmas. I've tried to get my kids THE BIG GIFT when financially possible. But that's all they'd get for this year.

Was not trying to be passive aggressive. I just find it funny that ipad airs isn't BIG for Christmas. What do you normally get them?

Didn't you hear him? They're ONLY getting 2 iPad Airs this year. It wasn't like their 2nd birthday when they got 3 iPhones, a Macbook, and a 70-inch screen TV.

No need to be a dick. I have kids as well and my son wants an xbone. If he gets that he wouldn't get anything else. Its not an uncommon practice. You need to pick and choose, especially if you have big families because normally the need to buy everyone at least some sort of gift can get ridiculously expensive.

Apologies. Guess I took it the wrong way.

They've gotten a 3DS each for their birthday with some games. Things like that.

The dollar value is usually the same, just spread out over multiple things instead of just one.

Just joking around. You have to admit buying multiple iPads just for the kids is unusual. Many families can barely afford one.

Toys R Us announced Friday that it will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and stay open for 30 hours straight until 11 p.m. on Black Friday.

...

A representative from Toys R Us told The Huffington Post Friday that the company asks workers to volunteer to staff Thanksgiving weekend shifts. If there aren't enough volunteers, workers are assigned the shifts.

"We have so much excitement leading up to Thanksgiving and Black Friday," Adrienne O’Hara, a spokesperson for Toys R Us, told HuffPost. "Employees are really excited, it's an event."

What a load of crap.

I never shopped online on Black Friday before (Amazon in particular) so I have some stupid questions.

1. How typically steep are the discounts on consoles?
2. Is 1 Day shipping still applicable for Black Friday? (Get it Saturday)

Man reason is that I was thinking of going ahead and purchasing the Borderlands 2 Vita bundle now (don't want it to be out of stock like last time) and possibly a Xbox 360 if I have some money left over after bills. Otherwise I can wait until BF.

A load of shit indeed. I'm working a retail store that opens at 6pm on Thanksgiving and will be open until, I believe, 8pm friday. You think we're excited!? Fuck you, man!

Eh. My store opened at 6pm on Thanksgiving last year and I and the other people scheduled the 5pm-2am shift were pretty pleased to be getting time and a half.

Please please please let there be deals on the Surface Pro 3 and the Nexus 6. That's all I really want.

Are there good deals online on Black Friday or do I need to go out to get the good stuff?

Usually there are no discounts on the console itself. Typically each store offers a bundle with the console at a combined discount. Dell has a few deals this year, but I don't think it what they are offering is worth getting excited for. Some new games are often given significant discounts, but it is a crapshoot as to what is included.

It depends on the store as to if they will offer one day shipping. From my experience, it often isn't offered, but I wouldn't be surprised if more stores provide it.

Thanks fam.

LOL! Yeah I'm sure employees are thrilled.

stores cut hours all year to where people are lucky to get 30 hours. This is the time of year to make money in retail with OT and holiday pay.

still sucks, but people would stay home if they really cared about the retail employees having to put up with this shit.

Does anyone know if any retailer accepts multiple American Express gift cards for purchases? I have received several from work in smaller dominations and would love to waste them of a television.

Already hypin' it up for Black Friday. Might not be able to do the usual Walmart then GameStop because where I'm staying for Thanksgiving, but I'm still gonna go somewhere and hopefully get me an SO Xbox One.

Yeah, the giftcards will just reduce your total by their full amount. No problem using multiple.
