Black Lagoon is one of the few anime that is better in English dub than the original sub.

The Japanese voice actors couldn't do accents to save their lives, and the engrish was distracting.

The problem isnt the plot, its how little the anime is developed in comparisson to the light novel story.

The first season is 4 volumes condensed in 26 episodes, it just cant be done.

I know nothing about the show except for this, but definitely seems like a good change of pace from the big 3 shounen in front of it. I'm intrigued. Curious what they will do for the language. Bleeps can be amusing for a while but I could see them becoming annoying.

There's Bleach, Naruto, and OG Inuyasha on the tail of the block. Decent chances Final Act might jump in once Bleach ends or maybe they'll let OG Inuyasha have another full run. Also, I'll note that the Viz shows are steadily some of the best rating and Toonami has openly stated they have a good relationship with them.

now now fairy tail isn't that bad once you get past the really poor first 25 eps or so lol. eps 80 on minus the filler crap are actually pretty good for shonan standards.

as for the language, well they will either bleep them, or redub the lines... though it will be missing something with out the F words, as Revy's character obviously is someone who would use them a lot (and did in the dub lol)

well in black lagoon's case I believe there is also the N word and the C word to deal with.

on a different note... I knew that Rock was voiced by the guy that did Light on death note... did not realize that both dutch and revy were voiced by people that did nothing else (dutch's VA literally has only done dutch) I also didn't realize that benny was ryuk from death note lol.

I do wish I had cartoon network and could watch the censored version of this show, as I am extremely curious how it will be cut...

on the plus side it can't be worse (as in the censorship will make sense most likely) than when naruto originally aired and they censored out

You guys might be laughing and shit, but phantom bullet has a better plot than the rest of the series, if that translates to a good anime nobody knows yet.

I also dont get where you see harem overtones, maybe its something particular to the anime but i never felt it in the light novels. It was basically asuna and later the cousin, the guy was too busy trying to save everyone to meet girls and bond with them.

Edit: Yep, read the wiki to refresh memory, all those stupid characters that seem to grow into an harem in the series are side story characters, part of the 2nd volume which you can completely evade and not lose something in the story.

This is a good acquisition and I'll watch it along with everyone else in the Toonami thread. They'll get to see Balalaika. I watched Roberta's Blood Trail last week and I thought it was great with the return of the Terminator Maid.

And the dub is great, especially with the various accents. It's what I love about Baccano (which they also need to air).

Adult swim has been dealing with dark topics for years

but honestly the fuck word would be the hardest part to fix. If they basically air the original dub I see them just bleeping it or or maybe recording new language for those spots. On the flip I could see them just doing their own dub, they have the money to do it and honestly the first dub wasn't anything amazing so why not.

Then years later I gave it another shot and discovered a really good narrative underlying the violence with great character development.


Too bad it's unfinished though. Maybe in 10 years the manga will finish and they can animate the rest of it and finish the character arcs that were left hanging.

How far did you get? It starts a little slow but gets really good later (once the show gets into arcs and not episodic fare).

It's good because it's not some mindless shootbang explosion anime. As Bebpo said the narrative is strong with good characters, and has some dark parts to it.

One element of this show that is extremely underrated is the character. Or characters, for that matter. The development of not only Rock and Revy, but their relationship itself was more enjoyable for me than the action. And the action is damn good. But that's how much I love those two.

They changed a few things that seemed to be specifically to say "no more anime." Allusions to future mysteries, etc.

Great acquisition, more people should watch this show and read the manga. One of the best things to come out of manga and anime. Best English dub in history too.
