The demo will allow players to experience the first few hours of the game, and save data and progress can be carried over to the full game when it launches.

looks amazing will try

Got real 3D Belmont vibes from the trailer and sure enough it's made by some of the same people as Castlevania:LoS.

Hadn't heard of this game so had to look it up. Here's a few outtakes from wikipedia page for anyone interested.

Article:
Blades of Fire is currently being developed by MercurySteam, the studio behind Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread. Some of the founding members also worked on Severance: Blade of Darkness.

Blades of Fire is a third-person action-adventure video game. Players assume control of a warrior named Aran de Lira, who wields an ancient hammer allowing him to forge various weapons.

The game is set in an interconnected world with various alternate paths and hidden locations. When fighting enemies, players can choose how to place and position their weapons from two directions (the right and the left). They can also target an enemy's head or torso, and use slashing, stabbing, and blunt techniques to deal damage.

Blocking incoming attacks regenerates stamina, while parrying can break an enemy's defense, providing a window for players to deal large amount of damage. Each weapon will eventually degrade, and they can be repaired at anvil checkpoints, or be broken down into crafting materials.

Throughout the game, Aran will be accompanied by Adso, a young scholar who will provide players with useful combat tips and assist in solving puzzles.*

In the Forge, players can modify their weapons extensively and alter their physical properties such as weapon length, shape of the blade, and the materials used for crafting. This, in turn, will alter their performance such as durability, penetration and edge quality.

If Aran is defeated in battle, players will respawn at the nearest anvil checkpoint. All enemies in the area will also respawn. The weapon Aran is last using, however, will be dropped at the location of his most-recent death.

*Fuck this trend of npc companions giving you tips and solving puzzles for you. I might be retarded, but I don't like being treated as such. 😅

That chanting on the background... definetly a spiritual sequel to Blade of Darkness! Will try it for sure, hope it's decent.

I was interested until I read the bold parts. To hell with stamina in action games, and to hell with crafting outside of builder games.

Imagine having developed Lords of shadow, 2 good Metroid games, Space Lords (art-direction was sick) and Jericho only to come out with a generic looking game as this...

It might play well but, I just can't with this abhorrent art direction.

Alot of "influencers" and youtubers have been pushing this game and I see right through it.

I will at least give it a go but the marketing stinks and its very transparent.

Crafting is a giant part of this game. You're basically a blacksmith that also fights. You manually shape the blade's edge and are constantly tweaking your weapon. And it can only be repaired a few times before you have to toss it, so its designed to keep you engaged with the weapon creation system instead of sticking to one weapon.

I expected better from them as well. It seems they need guidance from someone to make stellar product. With Dread it was Nintendo/Sakamoto. With Lords Of Shadow 1, Kojima was the producer.

- Good to great graphics : it's the usual Mercury steam stylized, armost cartoony art-direction which works ok.

- Weird combat system : each face button does a different swipe, dodge is weirdly Left bumper (?), block is Left trigger.

- Combat feels impactful and meaty, good use of vibration.

- Music is Epic as fook - I don't know if this is Oscar Araujo but it feels very Lords of shadow-y.

- Gameplay system where you forge weapons : I found it boring, couldn't be arsed with it.

- Talking about the art direction, man, this really needed to be something...better than this, it feels kinda generic and almost bargain-bin game.

All in all, seems like a honest game but...I ain't spending 60 Eurodollars on this, feels way too "been there, done that®".

Just a few min in. Its everything I hoped it would be. Combat feels original with the unique face button set up. Choosing to hit Y to go for a face shot reminds me of Braveheart. Already seems like a perfect swimming in 7s action game at a bare minimum.

Is this related to the Capcom RPGs?
Its a prequel to this movie.

Nah. Too much to play to mess with subpar slop.

Mercury team likely going under after this one.

GG.

Got instantly hooked on the demo!

Love the directional based melee combat, it puts more thought into your swings and hearkens back to old school hack n slashes like Severence Blade of Darkness (which was harder than any Souls or Souls like I've ever played). Some devs from that game actually founded MercurySteam fittingly enough!

I love the artstyle as well, very lords of shadow in character designs but more bright, high fantasy in environmental design. Lighting is very pretty.

I'm sold. Getting this and Tainted Grail this month, and still finishing up First Berserker too.

Gaming is good this year.

well, ive gone blind into this solely expecting that mercury steam will deliver, but my expectations got crushed. I knew from the first trailers that it had kinda a over shoulder (or close) 3rd person style combat system, but that this is actually a soulslike? omg. At worst i expected more something like God of War Reboot style but in AA scale. This feels so boring and all i wanted was a fun hack n slash with a good story. Im pretty sure they advertised it explicitly as an Action Adventure too. Also, the music is once again so mid just like in Metroid Dread.

Really thankful that there was a Demo.

I am playing the demo and I am having a blast. This is a very well done game with surprisingly high production value. The combat is really good, it has impact and its satisfying. The story is interesting too

Good first impressions so far, lets see how long the demo is

Its a shame that the game is exclusive to the epic store but the publisher is 505 games so yeah I am not surprised

Soulslike? Lol are you serious? This game is not a soulslike

- Combat and movement is inspired by Souls, just a different spin on it
- Crappy/thin storytelling (the mission objective got told to the player in a tutorial screen, lol)
- Restpoints

Theres alot more, but i get tired listing the obvious. Well and i turned it off when explained the weakdamage mechanic. Crafting and breakable weapons is one thing, but that...this game is absolutely no action adventure game.

You should question the people that said this was gonna be an oldschool janky AA PS2 Game instead. Just because it isnt a carbon copy of the Dark Souls games doesnt mean you cant identify this as one.

Gonna try it today i think.

PC too but its exclusive to epic store unfortunately. That being said the demo runs incredibly well and it looks really good
I'm not one of those people that cry in anguish when it has to use another store unless it's the dogshit microsoft gamepass store.

Same here. I can use the ubisoft launcher and the epic store launcher too but I have absolute hatred for the xbox app and cant stand it

I tried it, ok this game is awesome too wtf? Now i know what im playing after Doom. Looks and runs great, music and VA is good. Combat is pretty unique and awesome imo and the crafting is unique aswell. Game looked kinda weird in videos, but loving this after i tried it.

directional based melee combat
Thank God GIF

Directional melee combat needs to make a come back! Whenever I play an old classic like Blade (Severance) or Rune I end up asking myself why this concept has been ditched in modern games. Hell, even Zelda had directional attacks back in OOT.

I like the combat, I like some of the systems, I hate the forging and don't care much about that companion.
Hopefully they add a option to skip forging in the future.
