Diablo 2 is a stupid hack'n'slash, I agree. But it also is the best goddamn hack'n'slash game ever made.

It's ridiculously fun and addictive. Simple yet complex. Shallow gameplay yet with depth (classes, skills).
Game design masterpiece.

Yeah, it is ^^. Metroid Prime 1&2, Pikmin 1&2, Mario Sunshine, etc, this is absolutely bullshit and... of course Diablo 2 is not bullshit, it's even quite good, but in my book can't stand against Zelda OoT and MM, it's not comparable ^^.

I absolutely love Diablo 2, but I had way more fun with Ocarina of Time, Pikmin 2, etc. Hell, Diablo 2 may last pretty much forever, but the overall feeling I got out of 21 hours of Kirby: Canvas Curse was much more memorable for me.

Drinky's right, you guys. Pound for pound, release for release, Blizzard is KING OF ALL GAMES. Starcraft and Diablo II are two of the greatest, if not the greatest games, since the birth of Christ. Anyone who writes of Diablo II as "click click click" is blind, deaf and dumb to a deep, beautifully fleshed out experience.

However, when Ghost ships, expect the worst!

what the hell is wrong with free online community for custom games? Battle.net has outlasted any nintendo game ever made, i've been playing SOME form of WC3 ever since reign of chaos thanks to the tons of custom game maps that can be played over b.net. Bnet is a beautiful creation, especially with the WC3 map editor and model plugin, no game has more replay value than b.net's combined community of custom map makers. Dota Allstars, ToB, RoTG, Life of a peasant, diablo duel, I will eat your babies(yes thats the maps name), Diablo RPG, Legends Open RPG (featuring HE MAN music), Castlevania, Resident Evil, FF open rpg, Juliens Rpg, ENFOS team survival, omfg the list goes on and on.

if nintendo focused all of their talent and creative energy into only one or two development teams, this wouldn't be much of a discussion.

and diablo IS "click click click." ive played some of it and ive seen hardcore players play a lot of it and thats all it is. clicking. must be great since so many people like it, but its still clicking. the CG was nice though :D
 
diablo's gamplay is just clicking but so is every single FF game ever made selecting a skill and then watching the result. Diablo just lets you do this in real time, even with the mouse as the main means of control the game itself is still very complex in how skills interact. Yeah you can just click all day but as say a necro you really dont have to click as much if you went all summoning you just have to micro your army, where as a zon with multi shot yeah you have to go click crazy. There are also strictly pvp builds like a chargadin, ironmaiden necro, WW barb, ice orb mage, dragon kick assasin. Theres just so many ways to play your class in this game its great. This IS a blizzard vs nintedo discussion and i think starcraft is probably just as popular if not more popular than diablo, even nintendo wanted starcraft on their system ;).
 
I'm going to add that everyone who posted before me and disagreed with Drinky is wrong. Diablo 2 is the GOAT. Miyamoto am cry ... or something.
 
Drinky is a big hack and slash fan, it's pretty well known around these boards. Where's Kohler with his picture of the Drinky spheres of influence? Never really played the Diablo games first hand but have observed others play them... I'm more of a fan of puzzle solving type stuff and creative level design so I'd obviously prefer a game like Zelda to them (LttP is probably my favorite action RPG of all time, with Terranigma and Alundra up there too). To each his own I guess. And IMO pre N64 Nintendo > *

And actually they did get it ;). Imo just take the achievement Nintendo did with Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda, both NES, it's obvious who is the more important developer. Ah, and don't forget Mario 64, Zelda OoT, Zelda MM and Pikmin 2... It's quite hard to give more credit to any other developer, altough it's about your taste which single games you prefer, if you do have more fun playing war/starcraft or the Legend of Zelda, Mario, Metroid and Pikmin.

As much I love Blizzard and Diablo 2 in particular even I will admit the gameplay is shallow.

It's nothing but Baal runs and lewt runs anymore. I got tired of it and I'm a sucker for phat lewt runs. Don't even get me started on the train wreck that is Battle.net's community.

But despite all that it's one of a few games I always end up reinstalling. Blizzard know how to create create crack in electronic form. They've proven that time and time again.

So in my humble opinon Nintendo > Blizzard but they are my #1 & #2 developers respectively.
 
Starcraft Ghost is going to help transition Blizzard dominance back into the console arena. Fear not, the game will be superb!

Man, I'm a very big fan of D2. I got hooked up on it back when I got accepted into the beta and played on closed servers, collected every unique item, got a few lv100 chars, a few high level chars and so on. I knew the game in and out and honestly, despite everything it executes beautifuly, there's a fair amount of mouse grinding click-fests, retarded internet pks, and simply, mad level-up rushing to give enough room to Nintendo's games to shine.

But it's so completely retarded to compare a game like Diablo 2 to any game Nintendo has made up to know so I'm not even gonna go further into this other than saying that D2 isn't perfection.

I think you forgot to mention the endless hours of PvP ... you know, the entire point of all the items and grinding.

I play solitaire on my pocket pc while taking a shit every day. I'm sure the hours add up to far more than I've put into Diablo II or any nintendo game. That doesn't mean that solitaire > zelda.
 
Diablo 2 is a gimped 2D MMORPG, but without most of the MMO.

Actually, I like(d) Diablo 2. It's a great game, but I think it's overrated. Blizzard's constant patching in the early days (nerfing and tweaking shit that should have been cleared up long before release), along with the clogged servers, really killed my interest.
 
I like Oreo Blizzards, but I also like Metroid Prime, but I like Metroid Prime more when I'm having an Oreo Blizzard, yet when I eat a Blizzard, i may also want to play Metroid Prime.

I think I just fell into a black hole.
 
No shit Blizz > Nintendo. Doesn't take much though, half the developers making games now are better than this staggering, drunken, moronic shell of a company that plasters the Nintendo name on everything to sell their mediocre slop to their dim witted fanboys.

Maybe so. But there was a time when this forum was very protective over anything Nintendo-you were banned for saying the same things towards Nintendo. You can't change the way the forum runs nowdays,you have to roll with the punches.

I'm a huge Sega fan and I hear some of the worst hated horse shit being spun towards them,just ignore the stuff as I do and things will be ok.
