Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

So on and off for the past week I have been having a hell of a time with
Martyr Logarius
. So much so that I blew through all my cached blood vials and bullets, had to do multiple farming runs to resupply, and yelled at my TV a lot!
Last night I finally beat him, and it felt great. I ended up having to practice staggering a lot and ultimately thats how I got him.
I just love that the game effectively said to me "you neglected this mechanic so now you are going to pay for it!"

This largely feels like one of my favorite Dark Souls moments. After ringing the bells, Sen's Fortress opened up. I was feeling like nothing could stop me so I went barreling into the new area.
First step into the Fortress I triggered a trap, got 3 arrows in the face, then murdered by Cobra men. In that instance it felt like the game was saying "Know you place."

Sorry for the rambling but man there are so many reasons why these games are fantastic!

Feels good.

Even for an arcane build, it doesn't become useful until late in the game. I'm making an arcane character for PvP, and the start of the game have been much harder than even my first play-through because there's not much you can do with arcane early on and I don't wont to waste points in STR/SKL. Poking Emilia with the gun spear for 10 minutes is something I don't wish to repeat. :(

lol. I wish I knew what a gun spear was, though. Gotta put in more time this weekend playing the game.

I'm terrible at the riposte timing so more often than not I don't even try. I'll end up getting destroyed or at least losing half my health if I miss. I tend to just dodge a whole lot.

So I was up to
BSB
and thought I would take a few attempts to beat and then I saw the summoning hint and I've never used any summons before maybe I'll try that... It made the fight so easy I killed it first attempt. Is it always like that? Felt like cheating.

Summoning almost always feels like cheating. That is why I usually go solo first time around.

Aye I was trying that as well, I just could not get out of the way of some of the fight mechanics and / or the range on them was nonsense!

It didn't feel like cheating for
Martyr Logarious
. Took several attempts with a summon to get past him. I plan to attempt solo on my next playthrough now I know what to expect.

Just finished my first run trough. Can't believe i did it, i was pretty bad in souls and never finished one of them. This went mostly fine. Final boss fucked me up good a couple of times, but in the end i was able to stay calm and only go for a hit when i was sure it was opportune.

Great game, what a blast

My question was actually kinda rhetorical, but thanks!

Oh, sorry. Didn't catch the rhetorical. I just really like how they handled main weapons that can fire bullets
including one that lets you carry the wooden shield and still shoot a bullet with R2 to have both blocking and parrying.

Ok guys I beat the main game with just the trophy left for one of the endings and the weapon trophy (for which I just need a weapon from a chalice dungeon) as well as the chalice dungeon trophy left to kill the boss there.

I can finish the game to get the third ending anytime as I met all the requirements and get the weapon the boss drops after. However I'm holding off on that and doing the chalice dungeon stuff for the trophy before I finish and get the platinum.

I have some questions regarding the dungeons.

1) I know they dont scale with NG+ but if I did go to NG+ will my created dungeons still remain created at the hub? I haven't done this simply because it will lock all the areas of the main game out again and I may want to revisit them.

2) Am I in it for the long haul with these dungeons if I'm only going for the trophy to kill the boss at the end? I'm currently at Lower Phentmaru Layer 4 but I know I need to create other dungeons to get materials after this one.

Basically what I want to know is which bosses should I face if I am to do it the easiest way through? I don't want to come to a boss here and be stuck considering they're so hard compared to the main game. Which is the best least stress free path to the boss trophy?

currently I'm level 91 using mostly Ludwigs blade and sometimes the Tontirus Lightning mace. My build is VIT 37 Str 30 End 40 Skill 17. I know I need to put more in Skill for Ludwigs and I'm working on that as I level up.

daughter of the Cosmo
is fucking pissing me off. I think I've fought this boss 30 - 40 times. Any advice? I just wanna move on and finish the game.

I was stuck on this boss for a while as well. What I did was stay close to her the entire time, dodging to the left when she attacked with her head, quickly striking her 1-2 times with Ludwigs + bolt paper before circling around her waiting for her next attack. At 30% health I used the cannon + bone marrow ash, to finish her off.

1) yes, the dungeons you created stay and can be accessed from NG+

2) it can take a while. There are several chalices that you need to create and beat, including the defiled chalice. I wouldn't hesitate to level up as you go through them.

I summoned someone couple of days ago for ML and to me it felt like cheating since you could get visceral attacks with charge attacks when he would concentrate on the other player.

Every boss in the entire soul franchise becomes trivial when you summon another player. They just aren't designed for more than 1 target. Some bosses are obviously excluded like Dragon God.

If anyone summons someone on his first playthrough, he's a casul. :p

1) Everything carry over as is, don't worry about going to NG+.

2) Three more dungeons to go, and you have to fight the same bosses everyone else fought, only "root" dungeons are randomized and you don't need any root dungeon to get to the trophy boss.

For stats, you'd need more VIT too, or you're gonna get one shot by a lot of stuff in the next dungeons.

I have good experience with the "staying close" strategy as well. I stayed close and the sides and dodge whenever she does one of her obnoxious attacks. I definitely took some damage but I was able to easily heal through it. I used Blade of Mercy with some bolt damage from a gem. She seemed to stagger quite easily as long as I just kept dishing out damage. Bolt damage seems to rip this boss apart. I didn't even get hit by the arcane shit. She never gets around to that if stay close.

Ebrietas is a sort of gear and level check. You need high damage output and high VIT unless you can dodge flawlessly.

Where is the summoning spot for ML? It seems like my bell is dimmed around that area...do I have to do it before I drop from one of the spires?

add to this: she's highly vulnerable to thrust, like charged R2 from ludwig's. as for the "arcane shit" the best strategy is to run away diagonally. as long as you have enough stamina and can sprint, it won't hit you at all. then run back in and continue

I remember having trouble with my DPS until
I said "screw it" and used my Empty Shell buff because I was burning through Bolt Papers. I suddenly started doing a lot more damage.

I might be mistaken, but isn't Mergo's Wet Nurse slightly different when you coop?

I've noticed that the extra Wet Nurse copy stays after the fog phase when I coop. I don't recall that to happen whenever I solo that boss.

not ashamed to summon anyone during first playthrough. cooping with people is fun as hell. I never did it in Demon's or DkS1 but I summoned quite a bit in DkS2 and it's pretty great especially against tougher bosses.

And that's why I don't get people that wish for an easy mode. The games already have one!
If you enjoy to make it easier go for it by all means, but I think you'll deduct something from your own, 'true' Souls experience.

40 is the cap for Endurance in terms of Stamina gains. Where we end up depends on where the meta falls, a lot of people are going with less than 40 Endurance because in this game you get more mileage out of Stamina, and they still use Souls strategies in PvP which consist of hit and runs and poking and disengaging. I personally believe the game favors a more active and faster play style and I believe Stamina goes a long way towards making the best use of those aspects. So I'd say 50 Vit (to diminish the HP penalty when summoning/invading) and 40 End to really allow the game to shine.

I agree - but hey, the community can do what they want! I'll just keep killing everyone in PVP ;)

In terms of co-op: I never do it for a first encounter with any boss. It's very easy to kill with co-op and there is no satisfaction. I'd rather beat my head against the wall for an hour until I get it, than co-op. No satisfaction in doing it.

Not judging anyone that does it, just personal preference.

Yes, just go to the hunters dream once, leave, use the madmans, go back and she will be active :)

EDIT: Didn't realize you didn't have to "gain" an insight to make her active, guess I just assumed since she wasn't when I initially visited in NG+ haha.

So I think the deal was that since I already had insight (I ended the game with 62 or so) I had to go in to the hunters dream twice. When I initially tried it and she wasn't awakened it was the first lamp. I ended up logging and when I logged in after work she was awake with me not doing anything.

Just for anyone wondering.

In the ailing loan chalice dungeon first layer.

I thought id better go back to hunters dream before i took on the boss.
300000 souls just from that one layer. levelled up 6 times. lol

That side room with 2 big werewolves. 2 bell ringers and about 10 dozen red spiders was insane. I know where im gonna be farming.

if the devs didn't want summoning, they wouldn't include it, imo. since it's part of the game, I don't find it lacking the "true" experience at all. Sunbros exist to help others so if someone needed help, Praise the Sun. I loved being summoned. wish it worked better in BB so I could help Gaffers here as well.

When she goes into the final phase she will stand still for a while with her head down. Try to be ready for this with a full bar of stamina and wail on her head to get her health low, then you can finish her with some marrow ash shots to the head.

There's a trick to making him significantly easier. When he goes into the second phase he kneels down for a while and channels a buff that makes him immune to normal stagger, but not parries, for the rest of the fight. If you backstab him with a charge attack while he's channeling then he won't get the buff which means you can still stunlock him in phase 2 and your shotgun can still interrupt his attack if you parry too early. Makes the fight a lot safer.

Ha, I did exactly the same thing and had the same reaction :)

Also congrats on beating ML. I bounced off Logarius the first time we met, he killed me, I was intimidated, I left to go and level and come back another day.

Thing is I've also completely neglected the parry mechanic, I barely use my gun. I find it so unintuitive, I'm hoping not to have to learn it just to beat ML.

I never used my gun against him. the runback was the worst part of that fight.

I feel like I am so helping people cheat on EB. I do so much damage that she barely gets into her last phase and never gets a chance to do her air AOE.

The cool thing about the guns is that they almost always interupt the attack of an enemy, even if you don't open up for a visceral attack. In previous Souls games you would get punished for missing a parry. Not so much in Bloodborne.

Noted! Thank you!

I love helping people myself, but summoning is still easy mode. Just the fact that one person can aggro the boss alone is a huge help. It's a part of the game to help more people enjoy the wonderful product, but it's still easy mode.

Nothing wrong with easy mode, it's just what it is.

i beat Ebrietas by baiting her charge move. what you do is stand a considerable distance from her, she will slowly crawl to you. Eventually she will decide to user her charge move. You will have to figure out how far you need to be and you can hit her with a charged R2 move. You need to be careful in phase 2 because the distance for her charge move is different. mechanically the hardest part of this strat is when you have to run past her when you tun out of space. Otherwise its just learning timing and distance.

Everybody has their own personal standards on what they allow themselves to do in a video game, and as long as it doesn't affect other people (like exploiting online glitches), they're all fine -- it's just a game. Personally, I don't feel like I've "really" beaten the game unless I've solo'ed all the bosses, but that's just me being a little OCD about it. Some people would consider me a casul because I have no objection to looking stuff up on a wiki or youtubing encounters that are giving me trouble. Different strokes.

whatever works for people to enjoy the game a lil more. better than some folks who simply quit which is a real shame.

Finally killed the Queen in the Chalice Dungeons. Easily a couple of the hardest bosses in those levels. Love to see this game get a Boss Rush Mode.

Yes, I agree. I just feel like some of the harder - and optional - challenges shouldn't be open for co-op until at least 1 victory solo. They're not related to the main game and will be a fun challenge for those that want to give it a shot.

Yes, the boss before her was one of the toughest yet. I'd take all of the bosses in the defiled dungeons - health decrease included - over him.

I could never play a Souls game completely blind because i haaate missing optional stuff, especially bosses. I would have been really pissed if I had missed an Umbilical Cord item.

But yeah. so far I've beaten all Bosses solo, only the Ihyll Chalice and the Moon Presence left.
