BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

Ok, should i get the guide book or not ? Know that ENB works on this one as well, have not had the one from DS2, was it any good?

Even if ENB didn't work on it i wold tell you get it. Future Press makes some of the best guides. I own the Bayonetta guide, Dark Souls 1 and 2 and i preordered the bloodborne one a long time ago.

Ugh, everything I'm reading about is really positive and I'm excited for the game. BUT I can't help but to think back about Dark Souls II, where I got it day one and was like "wait I really don't like this game.". Then pretty soon a lot of people were coming around to that conclusion.

This game is made by the devs behind Demon's / Dark Souls, not DS2

Patiently waiting :( Next Thursday can't come quick enough.

tell us please if they say something unknown :)

They're not. I already got bored and turned it off. They're talking about the basics we already know while playing the very beginning of the game. I've seen enough of that area personally.

review embargo : 24th
strange, this morning he said 23th ...

It's possible that the embargo ends on different days depending upon where you live in the world.

I figured I would crawl from the depths of my basement home theatre to give some more impressions

Currently, im level 24? and still in the first area that was previewed during the alpha/beta tests. My playtime is probably within the 8 hour range. As a first timer still working on the mechanics I mostly feel things have clicked. I know how to essentially play the game working within its constraints and now I am having a blast.

For people that have never played the previous games like myself, here is what to expect so you are not disappointed. it is not an adventure or hack and slash game were your goal is to get from the start to the end of the level in one quick sitting. your placed (what seems) in a large game world that so far has no real end. Your main objective is to slowly move forward and backtrack to piont A in order to cash in your blood echoes to get gear and level up. It is very similar to an MMO were you will be visiting the same area MANY times over to gain blood echos eventually getting strong enough to venture forward a few more rooms in the search of a short cut back to point A. These short cuts are then your new method of progress to bypass the area you were grinding your blood echos from previously. After many hours you will be able to quickly travel from point A through numerous short cuts to progress further.

The difference between an MMO is you never feel overpowered. Every fight is a potential for death due to a mistake you make that allowed the enemy to kill you. If your playing the game right and learn when to attack, when to dodge and how the enemy behaves you can make short work of them but death is always very real possibility. This is what keeps the grind so to speak so challenging and rewarding without getting too repetitive.

Performance wise it is basically a full 30 FPS with only slight dips if I kill numerous enemies at the same time. All the shimmering issues from previous videos has been eliminated and the graphics actually are really impressive. I seem to appreciate them more and more as I play due to the art style. Load times can be a bit rough depending on how far you have progressed before you died. Everything makes sense control wise and nothing seems overly clumsy or out of place- but I must adjust the enemy tracking can sometimes be a bit wonky.

The music and sound design is remarkable. You can pinpoint where every enemy is and you hear them comming before you see them. You also can tell what enemy your fighting due to their distinct sounds that they make. I am playing on a 7.1 system and the sound positioning is spot on.

I think the game is really what we all need right now. its different and does everything it sets out to do perfectly. the sense of challenge is always there and even when your "winning" you always feel like your a few steps behind everything your facing.

Just wait till the speedruns start coming out and people exploit the systems to do insane early damage and visit the dream refuge sparingly.

I forsee the whole early competition for speedrunning this game coming down to who can optimize their path the best to visit the refuge as few times as possible.

It's alright, nothing will stand in the way :)

Fiancée and me probably breaking off today..............

As a recently single man myself

I say we probably have more time to play bloodborne now :-\

But seriously it sucks and I hope at least you can salvage/work it out

I think they are just for stunning opponents so you can do a critical attack

Like how parrying worked in the other games

I need this game right now. I'm so jelly og you Oracle! Glad you liking it though. It seemed early in the thread you were struggling a bit. Now, you have confidence and the game is opening up for you. Welcome to the addiction of your life.

Thanks for the impressions! I don't know if it's the same in Bloodborne, but is Souls games it was just as important to upgrade armor and weapons as it was to level, perhaps more important. Being level 24 doesn't mean anything if you don't have good gear :)

To add to this, perhaps the most important is weapon upgrades above all else. So if you are struggling, see if you can't scrounge up the necessary items to upgrade some of the weapons you have.

Thanks for the impressions. I think I'll follow that same format being that I'm a first time player.

Ok, should i get the guide book or not ? Know that ENB works on this one as well, have not had the one from DS2, was it any good?

Haven't played much of Dark Souls II since I'm waiting for the Scholar of the First Sin Edition, but impulse bought the FuturePress guide of it today while out and about. Looks really good to me. Very extensive and what to me look like great maps.

Plus the cover....you'd think it would be an art book with a cover like that.

Wish I could track down a copy of the first one, just to have the set.

Edit: To forewarn though, this is the important note adjacent to the ToC:

At the time this book was sent to print everything in it was checked in the latest possible release of Dark Souls II, but the team at From Software were still constantly updating and improving the game's balance. We've tried to reflect as many of their last minute updates as possible, but further updates will certainly comes patches to the game are released, so it is inevitable that some of the data and information in this guide will become less accurate over time. We made the [extremely tough] decision to include data that is potentially inaccurate, or will become inaccurate, because the changes From are making are very unlikely to be radical.

I'm thinking of getting it as well, but for some reason the release date for the guide here in the UK is 3rd April.
Seems like Webhallen is undercutting the price where Amazon is the "exclusive" for NA. If you can get the Amazon version sent to EU then you can get it a few days from release, but will pay dearly....April 3rd isnt too long but these guides (as awesome as they are) are ravaged by patches even in the first week so if you are rich I say go for it as early as possible.

I have all three, (BB on its way), but does anyone know if there was a Demons' one...It never occurred to me to check at the time.

Every game i am playing right now seems so boring while i wait for bloodborne to release. From games are so good everything pales in comparison.
Shadow of the COlossus is going to get a run for its money as the GOTF, and although I did the first Colossus in Decemember, I saved the bulk of my blind run for this week on purpose! ;)
edit: PS the 3rd COlossus is down on my pre-BB spoiler killer blind run

Demon's Strategy Guide was published by Atlus and was exclusive to the Deluxe Edition of Demon's Souls. AFAIK FuturePress has not and has no plans to release a Demon's Souls guide.

Guess it will be hard to acquire then....may still want to try to track a copy down.

Apparently those guides were pretty terrible in material/print quality. Altus was even doing a replacement service for them due to how quickly the ink would fade.

I'd still keep an eye out though. Never know how much something like that would be worth. Was in a 2nd & Charles today when searching for the Dark Souls guide and a gift for the wife when I came across this:http://www.amazon.com/Walt-Disneys-Little-Mermaid-Sketchbooks/dp/155709344X
Was going to get it for the wife and be able to at least feel like going in there was worth it when the store price tag fell out of it and revealed that I was carrying around a $500+ book. Emotions were had and it was a long walk to the car.

More info from reddit:

Now onto things that I’ve gotten and some more info without spoiling too much.

I’ve gone through 3 more areas, and right now It’s night time. The day and night cycle seem to be based on story. Also enemy placements change depending on the time of day. I saw an extremely hard enemy in an earlier place and that scared me.

I’ve encountered atleast 8 more different enemies. They are all unique. My favourite is this humanoid fly. His bulbous head resembles a fly’s head with like 20-30 eyes. Really creepy. Also if they grab you they start giving you frenzy (the new curse). Once the bar filled up, blood gushed out of me and I lost 90% of my life. Another enemy is this giant millipede looking thing. Had lots of thin long hands coming out of it. Also had a blue kind of glowing flower on it’s forehead. It’s extremely fast with its strikes and can do 2 back to back giant fireballs.

Also faced a huge werewolf (my favourite enemy so far, but only fought one of him), who at close range does quick melee slashes and lunges, and at long range he shoot fireballs from both his claws simultaneously. I was surprised as hell.

Fought another npc who is the cheapest npc I’ve fought so far. She has some serious magic spells. Firstly when you are too close she can do an AOE spell similar to ward that the sentinels in Anor Londo used. The she follows that with stream of light that track you like homing soulmass. Hardest normal enemy faced so far. She also has a threaded cane. But I found a cheeky way to beat her. At one point I got the drop on her, and did repeated charged attacks to her back which gave me repeated chances to do backstabs. Totally cheap but I did not want her to do the homing soul mass crap.
I can confirm giant pig/boar like enemies. Surprise, they are back stabbable (not a word lol). Also found other enemies that spit poison, and also enemies that shoot magic at you.

I found a consumable that can be used unlimited times. It basically imbues your weapon with arcane at the cost of 3 QS bullet. SUPER USEFUL! With Ludwigs sword. It does massive damage.

I also found the weapon that everyone wants, the cannon. It’s extremely powerful but I can’t use it because you need strength of 30 to use it. I’m at 23. Also the gun that Gjula was using was infact a shotgun that does explosive spread damage. My mistake for calling it a hand canon. I have it right now. It’s good but there is a kick back to the weapon and there is a second of recovery animation after using it to reload the damn thing, so I switched to my pistol.
BOSS SPOILERS
Finally I ran into 2 more bosses. I managed to beat one after 2 hrs.
The one I beat was the hardest boss yet, because it’s a gank squad….yea you heard that right, TRIPLE threat. Three enemies that have extremely different fighting styles. They look cool as hell. AND one of these guys was using a……………that’s right A KATANA!!!! Hopefully I can get that as a trick weapon in the future and the clothing as well cuz it looked sweet. The Katana guy has massive reach and always rushes you. The second guy had a flamethrower to do AOE damage, and the final guy just kept spamming triple fireballs which homed in on you. GREAT! ME LIKEY…. NOT -_- It gets BETTER (no it doesn’t) Once one of them go below 50% health, they all morph into beast/humanoids and are faster, more aggressive and have flame weapons. Also their reach becomes 30% longer. So my strategy was to somehow get all of them to 50% or more, and then kill the fire spammer first. Then I killed the Katana dude, and this is where I genuinely raged so hard that I almost broke my controller. Once two of the three die, guess what the third does, he kneels, a red aura surrounds him, and he summons THREE giant beasts (won’t disclose what they are, but they look awesome) . Two guard him, and one hunts you down. They disappear after they do their attack animations. But I got killed after coming so close. Felt like total shit. But after some dinner I came back, did the same thing but this time I kept close to the final guy, and totally destroyed him. It was the most heard pounding battle I’ve had so far. My heart rate was just too fast. My right hand was going numb, and I just needed a break. But felt soooo good!! Most epic fight yet.

Now the next boss is my least favourite out of all the bosses. Don’t get me wrong the design of the battlefield, the boss itself looks sweet. Unfortunately the fight is shitty. First of all the boss is a large beast. But when you get close it spawn 8-10 smaller minions who guard the boss. Each hit these minions do take about 60% of my health. Fine I don’t mind that. What I do hate is the fact that both boss and the minions are armored in the front, so you frontal attacks do shit damage. When you try to flank that minions you get hit off screen. So after like 20 mins, I figured out that my threaded cane was the best way to take out the minions. Then I managed to hurt the boss. At around 66% health he teleports to the other side, and spawns even more of the fodder minions. This time like 12. Ok fine I wanted to repeat the process, but guess what the boss then starts doing some serious magic attacks. He can use an AOE spherical blast, then he rolls on the ground and spawns blue spikes that come from the ground and go up, and finally the most BS move is the meteor shower. Blue rocks coming from the sky and hit you for massive damage. And he spams this continuously without a chance to counter. This is just BS because I feel there should be a cooldown time before he can do it again.

There you go guys. That’s just how I feel about the most recent boss. I’m gonna farm some blood echoes to get my strength to 30 to use the cannon and then go back to the boss. It’s just a matter of patience I guess, and levelling up a bit.

Went to that shop today that was supposedly selling Bloodborne, once there I found out they were just having pre order boxes on display, they haven't even received their copies yet. Stay horrible Dutch gaming shops.

btw,
Stay strong Yoshi, good luck with everything.

The hype is too much. I pre-ordered the collectors edition a while ago. It's not my first souls game. I played Demon's Souls, but it never clicked with me. I killed 2 demons, then moved on to other games. Hopefully, this one clicks more.

Is the future press guide in limited quantities? Just placed an order for one from Amazon, and it says the estimated delivery date is April 30th? I am in the US if that matters. Guessing they already sold out of the first print and / or that is a placeholder date?

Thanks for all the positive PMs and Steam-messages, guys. Despite not asking for it, some people in here just decided to help me out anyways. BloodborneGAF kinda fucking rocks.

Love you all.

I ordered it right after it went up, and the delivery estimate is TBD still. I'll have to get into my wife's email and see if they updated me there.

Edit: Nope, nothin, nada.

i'm really appreciative of all these posts itt

but i'd hoped for more just general impressions in the vein of:

"this game is a fucking 10/10"

"this game is a masterpiece"

"best FROM game ever"

i need my doubts permanently quelled, i worry there are still missteps

miyazaki should strike me down, in all my blasphemy
