BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

Maybe if it wasn't for the loading screens.

Not going back to farm means not having to go through loading screens as well, so yeah, it's still an incentive to improve. It's even more of one, actually.

I'm not really trying to spin long loading times as an overall positive, though.

From the streams and vids i watch some people seem to be playing the game like DS or DeS.
In BB looks like you have to be more aggressive even if you get hit since that is how you get back life.
Running back and healing all the time going to have you using a lot of healing items .

I think they want us to take advantage of the health regain method.

Remember that guy who used 20 vials on one boss and still nearly died just becuase he was too scared to wait for an opening and attack him back while having a low amount of life.......thats what you should not do.
I think you make an excellent point. You can regain health back through being aggressive and attacking after you've been hit. If blood vials are indeed rare, players will need to take advantage of this system, which with only make the game deeper and more intense.

And I agree, the early streamers weren't taking advantage of this, they left a lot of the possible regained health on the table while they fled.

I don't think I will make it through this game without co-op help. I'm really excited for Bloodborne, but wow this looks hard as hell.

Would people get agitated if they made the game easier so you wouldn't have to farm vials?
Or would they be pissed if the 20 vials is all you will get and want more healing? Really this argument is not making any sense to me, unless the regain utility is not being used at all by the players right now.

I assume it has to be that. Lets be honest I think most of us are at first going to play it like a souls game, slow and defensive til the switch clicks and we are beastin' fools.

oh please. Look at that poor selection.

Meanwhile Bloodborne:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXK2_CFGK7w

Both of them are inferior to the best character creation I've seen in a game: Dragons Dogma.

The Dark Souls 2 character creator is in fact very good, here's a few I made that didn't take very long to make and doesn't deviate much from the standard pre-sets:

Some guy on reddit wrote a nice post highlighting what he hates about Bloodborne. It's spoilery only in terms of the game mechanics.

Disclaimer: Yes I'm playing it right now and yeah I love the game.

That being said...

J-E-S-U-S do I H-A-T-E the new Health Potion system over the old Flask system. This is the worst possible method of implementing a healing system. I PRAY, ABSOLUTELY PRAY TO GOD the release day patch helps this issue, and either a) makes the vials drop more frequently and/or b) makes them cheaper to buy.

Basically, never before in a Souls game has my forward progress been completely stopped in it's tracks by the fact I'm... well... "out" of healing pots. Making boss attempts and using 5-15 an attempt? Better hope you have tons! Run out of pots on your last boss attempt? Back to grinding mobs you don't give a shit about!

The worst part is, some zones have an overabundance of vial drops and some have almost none at all. This means you actually have to completely leave some zones altogether and go back to other zones just to farm vials so you can progress on the zones you actually want to be in. Believe me, this is not how I enjoy playing the game.

Everything else is great. I love so many new features of Bloodborne and I'm having a blast. But this is one of a few "features" that, in any other circumstance, would actually probably make me hate and quit the game.

Pray my friends. Pray the release day patch helps this.

(Yes I realize as you get further in the game you start to accumulate souls at an exponential rate and you can just buy vials, but that still sucks. Who the hell wants to dump all their souls in to buying vials? Especially at friggin 360 a piece. They should be like 100.)

Runner up features you guys won't like and should accept as reality now to get over the rage early before the game releases:

You have to teleport back to home base and then teleport back to the zone (two loading screens at 15-20 seconds each) to respawn enemies. Simply "resting" at the lamppost (bonfire) does not reset enemies at all. This may not seem like a big deal at first, until you take the aforementioned notion of farming for things we take for granted like health vials on garbo enemies. Something you don't even want to be doing, with full minutes of load screens added in to the equation!

Entire game mechanic systems such as Runes require finding an item ingame before you can actually equip them. I had half a dozen or more runes (the ring equivalent) sitting in my inventory for hours and hours, until I managed to find the stupid item that let me actually use the work bench and thus equip them. Really lame. Unlock the work bench when you find your first rune instead IMO, this is a really frustrating feature.

There are a lot of things they simply do not explain nearly enough. I'm toughing it out and using pre-established Souls logic to make sense of some of the features, but players new to the game mechanics are going to have a FIELD DAY with this game when it hits next week. Ohhh lordy lord. Especially with the manual being delayed... good luck guys!

The good news is those are literally the only complaints I've had! Everything else is amazing, the game is top notch and you'll love it. Which is a good thing because otherwise holy shit you'd hate it.

I really hope some of that can be fixed.

Yeah this sounds like a positive to me. I was worried that blood vials would be too plentiful and overpowered.

this so much, I've yet to see anyone embrace the mechanics hit and hit back then back off, everyone starts to retreat and before you know it they have no healing, when there was so much free healing to be had! of course i haven't held it and felt the intimidation first hand yet so i might be a bit skidddish at first as well.

man, is like stars aligned. i thought my CE was gonna be stuck on the USA for months (no trips planned right now to the States) but a friend's aunt is coming to visit her by the end of the month and she could do me the favor.

Nor are people transforming the weapons and such...though one person making their way to a boss did use the two-hand version, but switched it back for the big fight.

I mean, seriously, in the
Vicar Amelia
fight when she goes to
heal
was a perfect opportunity to not only knock down the health and
negate the gains
, but also possibly stun to open to visceral attacks, which are another thing I haven't seen many attempt to take advantage of.

I hope this game has a lot of varied environments like Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. Everything I've seen looks so similar, but maybe that's because I'm not looking hard enough.

Yay we're getting a custom audio setting for Bloodborne!

?

EDIT:

But I do have one cool piece news for those of you who have an official PlayStation Gold, Silver or Pulse Elite headset: on March 24, open your Headset Companion App to download a custom Bloodborne Audio Mode that’s been tuned specifically to bring the unique world of Yharnam to life.

Farming health vials in areas where they drop more commonly sounds pretty tedious to me. It doesn't sound challenging or anything, just a waste of time.

I never had to farm anything in any Souls game, I don't think you should take his word to heart.

Because the game loads betterer!
Of course I'm just talking about the health pot stuff. Bosses taking many tries to beat isn't something new nor is it something bad. Conquering the Flamelurker for the first time in Demon's was one of my favourite gaming moments ever

For me it was tuesday.

Yeah this sounds like a positive to me. I was worried that blood vials would be too plentiful and overpowered.

Yep, that's exactly why I think it's a positive. It seemed way too easy to get plenty of health items.

Hey guys, anyone remember this picture I took of my livingroom aka Bloodborne-room a few days ago?

NzGc7aI.jpg

Well, 5-6 days has gone by and all I can say is UPGRADE MOTHERFUCKING COMPLETE!

2AS9ijp.jpg

I specifically remember someone calling me out on animal cruelty. I hope I have redeemed myself.

My body is more ready than ever for HUNTING. EDIT: The media table for the TV is on its way. Don't worry, I'm not gonna treat my neck that way :lol
I see you upgraded it with a cat as well, for moral support, I assume?

Going to the hub and back to respawn sounds like a step back for this design, made worse by the long load times.

It's not a "step back", it's a different design decision, there's nothing inherently better about not having a hub (especially with the way it was handled in Demon's Souls, which progressed the story & had actual character development).

Loading times are inherently better :P

Why isn't Firelink Shrine considered a hub? More NPCs went there, it developed the story and yada yada. I really don't see why it doesn't count.

The same for Majula.

A hub doesn't have to be completely disconnected from the world to be a hub.

But oh well, it is what it is, and I'm sure I'll love this game no matter what.

Has anyone who's played the game mentioned the item burden system being back in? The PSBlog post mentioned that some runes were able to give you more inventory space, but I feel like we would have heard about it by now if this were the case.

Pshh. Speak for yourself. I've always been a filthy dex build. Being a glass cannon comes naturally to me.

There are runes that boosts your blood vial capacity which is what I assume they're talking about.

Firelink Shrine is not relevant enough for it be grow on the player as a hub. Nexus had such an effect due to everything being there and pretty much all notable NPC's showed up there as well. I also feel like the NPC's reacted to the story progression more frequently than the NPC's at Majula.

Welp

After being on the fence for so long I just made my first digital preorder due to an unexpected windfall of PSN funds from a fellow GAFfer.

DS noob here with a question, what made a DEX build glass cannon? Thought that title usually went to mages :p

Maybe no shield? I don't see what makes DEX builds glass cannons either. I had plenty of health and have always had DEX builds.

Early to mid game typically you had to make some choices that affected your overall speed. You could get that nice looking armor set but now you're fat rolling. And yea you could have ok health but if you weren't pumping points into stamina and dexterity you didn't have the highest tier movement speed. Later on in the game(s) it didn't really matter as you could just grind for whatever stats you wanted.
