BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

Can I ask for vague advice (explicitly NOT the answer please)?

I have beaten the first boss and found a
music box
. However I am not sure where I should be heading.

So, should I:

A) keep exploring central Yharnam for something I've missed?
B) explore the
depths-esque
area? I feel like I already have. (
the giant pig killed me immediately
; oh no, is that what I have to deal with next?)
C) what else? Please be vague.

So, my friend is on the fence about this game (scary/creepy games aint his thing, only deadspace game i got him to play was 3 and only because we coop'd) and really only thinks he'll get this if I can coop with him.

So my question is how does coop work?
I know that the 2 bells and that you can set a passphrase for up to 8 ppl. Can that be changed later? Like if i wanted to coop with gaffers and randoms, could I switch the password on my bell later?

I think I read that you need insight for each summon and that ringing the bell opens you up to invasions as well. Is there a way to opt out of pvp and only play coop? Can you gain insight from pvp?

Anyone know this?

The small blood stone shards are easy to get (upgrading to +3). The twin version you need for 4+ are hard to find early on.

I don't know guys... I feel really lost and pretty terrible.

About 5 hours of game time, and I feel like I've made absolutely no progress at all. I can't even beat the first boss, I'm stuck running around the same area over and over again to get blood echoes to try and level up a bit and then beat the boss.

I feel like I've missed an important piece of gear or something that's not letting me be strong enough to go on. Either that or I'm just completely terrible at this game.

I don't know if I'm doing it right gaf, I'm cold and I'm scared.

feels like someone's first Souls experience alright :p

There's a few things you can do. Level up in the first chalice dungeon. Buy the item that is 10.000 blood echos from the vendor in Hunter's Dream and explore the area near the cathedral where you can gather people. There are a few ways you can go and a special event that gets you taken prisoner. I'm not sure how I triggered it though.
That 3rd mention just happened to me. Randomly. Good lord this game.

I'm glad that my concern over a lack of distinct environments was proven to be unfounded. It's all dark for the most part, but the actual areas are all cool in their own way. So much enemy variety too. I'm really happy I pre-ordered it digitally.

I think the best part is how consistent the art style is. It is even more cohesive than Demon Souls. I think DS2 sacrificed a lot of that for the sake of environment variety while Bloodborne shows you dont need to have inconsistent art style to have environment diversity. Simply masterful work by FROM.

man the level design in this is outstanding. It makes me all the more mad that we got DS2 first. Miyazaki truly was the brains behind everything in Souls. Without him at the helm, we get DS2's poor quality. I loved DS2 but, it feels like a disjointed mess. it doesn't have the same charm or atmosphere as DeS and DS had.

I want to play a Souls game to get ready for this.

gonna play through it all today and tomorrow.

Which souls game? Demon, DS1 or DS2?

Demon's Souls! :D

can you tell me why? I honestly dont care bout spoilers, which is why im here. lol

Because Demon's Souls is the most unforgiving and punishing one, you return to the beginning of the stage if you die. The gameplay and combat is also faster than Dark Souls 1 and 2.

Try playing without shields if you can, if you get used with dodging from the start, everything will be easier later and I think that the same will happen when you play Bloodborne. Just my opinion, though. You will have fun anyway :)

Sorry if something is not clear, english is not my mother language.

Another vote for Demons Souls, best game in the series so far, enemies, world, just everything about it. Don't be afraid to look for help online, even if you sit and have someone tell you everything you need to do point by point, you're still going to die a ton.

I bought Demons Souls at launch, played it for an hour, died 20+ times, said 'fuck this', and put it back on the shelf. This became a pattern for the next 2 years, every 6 months or so, I would pop it in, die a lot, curse a lot, then put it away.

At some point I fired up the first episode of the Demons Souls Breaking Brad series on Giantbomb, and like 20 minutes in, I realized even by Brad standards, I was playing and looking at the game as one thing when it was something completely different. I fired it up again, and beat it within a week, then immediately rolled into NG+.

Now I've beaten Dark Souls 1 and 2 once each, but Demons Souls is the game I always come back to for my Souls fix. Hopefully Bloodborne will replace it as my go to, but I still hope they release a DeS HD Remaster on the PS4 at some point.

Edit: Also, if you don't have a sub to Giantbomb, Epic Name Bro's Youtube series on Demons Souls is also really good and worth watching a bit to get an idea of what to expect and how to approach the game.

Thanks for the answers guys

Also, do we know much about diminishing returns on stats yet? Is there a good number to aim for in vit and endurance?

What equipment are you using? What stats are you levelling up?

Using the Scythe/Pistol and I'm leveling vitality, stamina and strength.

Ding ding ding ring the bell ding ding ding.

Might have to wait until Tuesday to do that though.

I could REALLY use some help right about now!

to cheese the boss (as I did) use oil urns and then molotovs to do 300+ damage per Molotov. Make sure you are counter attacking when you get hit to recover hp. Dance around him a lot. Put points into endurance to make it easier to dodge repeatedly.

This boss is a bit like the Taurus Demon. If you have oil urns and some molotov cocktails, it's pretty easy to get his health down quickly. Dodge, circle, attack. If he lowers his head you can deal a lot of damage as well. Good luck!

I didn't even get to this guy I can't even beat
Cleric Beast
I must be terrible at this....

Besides leveling up your character and weapon, remember to also buy
the 4 armor set pieces in the hub. From a stream I think they are 500 echoes per piece. They'll give you a defensive stat boost.

I actually did get this set, as well as another set you pick up that seems to be a bit stronger, one of the first things I bought

Yeah I played a ton of ds2 and I think this game is just hard as fuuuuuuck

feels like someone's first Souls experience alright :p

This is my first souls game, but I knew what I was getting myself into....

What class did you start with and what weapon did you pick? You might be making the game a bit harder for yourself if you picked a class heavy in strength and chose the cane or chose a class high in skill and picked anything but the cane. Also, if you've just been grinding blood echoes then quit it and try the boss until you win. Leveling will only get you so far in these games, and it's likely that you're at a level where you can definitely beat the boss. All that's left for you to do is actually pull it off.

I picked
the default class with medium stats across the board

My god... This game. I stumble upon what I think is a secret area,
end up dying to a new enemy, and wake up in a jail cell in an area I've never heard of. The atmosphere is incredible. They really nailed the Tower of Latria feel in it.

Hi y'all.

Youre back! How is it?

Farm for a bit and use the echoes to get close to 20 blood vials and bullets. Also try to get some oil urns and molotovs as they help big time on Cleric.

Tip for beating the boss:
Cleric Beast can be put into a ripostable state if heavy damage is done to his head. You can do this by shooting his head soon after he does a big hand slam attack or by using your Axe/Halbred to smack him in the dome when his head is down. Just remember you can only stagger its head after he regenerates. Its pretty easy to tell when that is happening.
Goodluck, also I suggest gettin a handle on parrying and dodging for the next boss...

You can summon the NPC
Gascoine
to help you with the boss. He can be summoned
near the doorway by the bridge leading backto the lamp
. You don't have to be online for it to work.

I hate it that Sony allows us only 1-2 days to pre-load, more time would be better

I agree. I prefer the Xbox One way where it goes up for pre-load once the game goes gold. Between Bloodborne and Borderlands, I gotta grab 60 gig of data over a pretty slow connection. Not a big deal except that it impacts the quality of my wife's Netflix stream.

Ah, yes, thank you. I found that ladder on my first character (waste of skin, cane/skill attempt that I gave up on after using up a lot of items just figuring out the mechanics) but had not on my current character, a violent past strength/axe build.

Wait what is this? How do you do this? What am I looking for in the world
to summon NPCs? Do I need an item?

The way the Dark Souls levels wrapped around on themselves, at least in the beginning, blew my mind. Does this one do that?
