BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

Was the 1st boss hard?

It's definitely the "now the real fight begins" moment of this game. You've been kind of feeling your way through and (if you're a Dark/Demon's veteran) getting used to this brand new style of combat, and this is the actual first time the game throws you in the deep end.

As if on cue. Just beat the first boss. And I'm back, loving it again.

yeah it's fun to watch wingman dying against this overpowered fat rolling enemy.

His tweets are insufferable to read, because they almost never have any fucking context.
it's almost like his tweets perfectly match his reviews. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) to which the solution is simple: do not read.

Cainhurst badge is what you need. There is a certain item you pickup I believe in
Cainhurst (some kind of burnt letter, don't remember the name exactly). You need to give Alfred this letter, which will lead him to Cainhurst. You talk to him there, and he gives you the badge.

Either that or join the
Vilebloods, and get the badge.

I did both of these pretty closely together, so it should be one of these two options. Memory is hazy.
I see, thanks.

Anyone have some tips for Vicar Amelia? Getting destroyed. Also, the fucking pathway getting back to her after dying is ridiculous!
Did you open the gate that leads down to the cathedral lamp? Lets you just run all the way from the lamp to inside her chambers. When you go from the main plaza with the two huge dudes to the gate that has the stairs to her, go to the right instead of up. As for the boss, I leveled up a lot and came back to her because I was getting destroyed. Came through and rekt her. I recommend staying close to her and don't let her heal.

Also, I saw some people say you can summon an npc for the first boss. How do you do it? My cousin needs help on it.

Question: do you
find armor and weapons usually sold in the shops out in the game world like previous Souls games, or has that been changed where the shops sell exclusive stuff?

Dear god this game is amazing.
I was tired of getting beaten by Vicar so i checked out the two other paths right before here doorway entrance. One area looked like a wilderness of sorts so i knew that was where to move on to next. The other area...on the right...two motherfuckin npc hunters with elemental buffs just ripped me a new one. I couldn't even scratch em they were so aggressive.
I'm having difficulty and loving every minute of it. I wish more games were this unforgiving.

Welp, I blew through my entire stock of blood vials on the third boss
blood-starved beast
, over the course of several hours of fighting it. At least 68 used.

Good thing there's an easy-ish farming run I figured out.

Also good thing people can summon help as of Tuesday.

Does anyone know where you're supposed to go after beating Bosses 4 and 5(?).

I beat Vicar Amelia, the Pale Beast and the Witches. Now I'm pretty lost. There's a locked door on top of the cathedral and a door where I need a password. I also read the words Forbidden Woods in this thread. Is that the next area?

I haven't played the game yet so durrrr to whatever I say, but one thing I noticed by watching some streams yesterday (I never watched aynthign beyond the third boss) is that parry/counter attack seems to be easier to do in this game than in souls, and it's very powerful against bosses. is this accurate?

Well just spent the entire day at my buddy's house with an early copy of Bloodborne.

The hype is real, it's that good.

It is NOT Dark Souls III by any stretch of the imagination, it's a whole new thing. If Dark Souls II went for tons of weapons, play styles and variety at the expense of intricate levels and careful encounter design, Bloodborne is the exact opposite. Very focused gameplay where you are explicitly a "hunter", but a world even more labrynthine and dense than Lordran.

It's amazing.

It is powerful and does a ton of damage but it is not easy and either I'm botching the timing or the tell because I can't seem to land it after the first half of the fight.

I am also finding myself just out of range to hit it with my weapons. It also has a ton of hp for how much damage I'm doing.

I did have good luck using
fire paper
but I ran out and can't buy more yet.

Grand Cathedral and Old Yharnam spoilers
Yep, I did!
Just the amount of white faced dudes on the way back up is a lot. I've taken to just sprinting back to her room.

I'm about level 25 or 26. Maybe I'll go grind some more. I've been putting all my points into skill, VIT and END.

Lastly, where's the Blood Starved Beast? I hit a dead end after clearing out that giant church.

Yeah, I just sprint all the way up. Fuck all those guys. And damn dude at 25 she should be one shotting you every time. I was about 33 or something when I first started messing with her and she still laughed at me. I gave up and came back to it later. Killed her at 40. Turns out Blood Starved Beast is actually the third boss and I made the same mistake of trying Vicar Amelia first because I could never find it.

It's in Old Yarnham. Don't know if you've opened the door that leads to the ladder underneath the turret guy, but that helps. Go down there and you'll have to follow the streets to the left. A wolf will pop out of a building that you can go all the way up inside to open up a shortcut to the first lamp. Keep following the streets and you'll end up at Blood Starved Beast. You might want to farm blood and level up more, though. Makes the first two bosses look like a joke imo.

someone sent me a stream that appears to be early in the game. quote.

from what I can tell he also seems to be a newcomer to souls -- just by how he's playing -- so this should be interesting.

Thanks, you've been a lifesaver today! Old Yharnam spoilers

Going to go give that a shot right now.
You're talking about the shortcut door directly across from the ladder that goes up to the turret, correct?
If so, yes, I've got that open. I'll head down there now, and see if I missed a path.

And I'm actually at level 30 now, which sounds like it lines up with where you were when you fought the boss we both initially missed.

No problem dude. We all gotta help each other out since there's no guides anywhere to help us yet.

That's the one! Good that you have it open. Go down and directly to the left hallway. Room with some wolf Saibamen. Then you enter the streets. The building I'm talking about will be on the right side so you can open a shortcut to the lamp. At 30 you should be fine but bring antidotes and equip them! You're gonna need it.

So for those who have and are playing the game, is it good?

How is the combat, environments, enemies so far?

I am someone who loved all 3 Souls games.

Hope this is the right place to ask this question. I haven't played a Souls game since Demon's Souls, and only put about 30 minutes into that.

I'm interested in picking up Bloodborne, but I'm wondering how item/resource/craft heavy the game is. After watching a couple of streams, it looks like you get a ton of items/materials. Is there a lot of item/weapon/gear management and/or crafting in this game? Is it manageable or overwhelming?

Thanks!

Was the 1st boss hard?
My cousin just beat the first boss while on party chat with me. He said he died about 25 times. It's his first time with the Souls series and he was not expecting it to be that hard.

He was fucking screaming when he was done and said he felt like he just did heroin. Was so happy. I was just like "that feeling is why people play that series."

Got it. Nearly smacked myself in the head. How did I miss this??

I watched slayer on hitbox finally beat the
father werewolf dude
after about... seriously 5 hours of trying. was riveting.

How do you save your game? does anyone know? I've been watching my friend play, and he gets like 30 minutes into a level and dies and has to restart from the beginning, which doesn't seem right. Is there a trick to it (like campfires?) or an item to use, or does it just save automatically at certain intervals/parts?

it seems to be the same as any other souls game -- in other words, you don't save. the game saves constantly, and if you quit, you'll come back wherever you were when you quit. if you die, you respawn at the last bonfire (or whatever bonfires are called in this) that you rested at. it's totally organic.

oh interesting. What determines where you respawn then, I guess is the real question? It just seems odd that he's played a LONG time without any sort of forward spawn

as I edited in to my response, there's basically checkpoints you interact with to refresh your hp and presumably go to home base to level up. if you die you start back at the last one you interacted with. if it's the same as dark souls, which I believe it is, using the checkpoint also respawns all the enemies (although some enemies are exempt from this).
