Yeah he's real easy, especially if you use the lightning rod
It's not hard, but it's time consuming and annoying.

This. You can be doing it perfectly without getting hit once and then, get one shotted by his magic because a spider crept up to you. Its tedious. It's not hard, but it's time consuming and annoying.

That's why you always kill his spiders first before dealing with him.
Unless you don't put a reasonable number of points into Vit, you're never going to get 1 shot outside of counter hits. Also, the rising meteor is not random. He will do it when he flips upside down.Everything about Rom is a one hit kill which can be frustrating , sure you can glitch him down to 1/3 health, but from there you have to get in to hit him multiple times, all while avoiding blue meteors , 1 shotting spiders , an Aoe attack that can kill you , oh and lets not forget about the rising meteor attack that is random , and finally he can just smack you in the face.
Now fight him In an FRC chalice dungeon where your health is halfed.
Just frustrating to roll out of the way of a meteor to have a magical jumping spider nail you from above.
I've tried those a few times but it only seems to have dropped the first time. Or maybe the drop rate's low.Im not sure other than continue to kill those Hunters that drop them in the DLC? I believe theyre the ones with red eyes. Idk if they drop more than once though.
There should be a The Nightmare Before Christmas DLC am I right everybody? :V
I enjoyed research hall until I wasted a decent chunk of time with the staircase. I also felt that the rooms were repetitive. I get that it makes sense for the building but it wasn't up to par with the Lecture Building in vanilla. Fishing Hamlet was OK but felt like a less annoying smaller Forgotten Woods. Except for the short below ground segments, it was just scrappy houses.
Really? Lecture building is the worst level in the main game IMO because it's exactly as you describe Research Hall, just mostly empty boring rooms. I always call it the "Bloodborne by Platinum Games" level. Research Hall is a lot more labyrinthine and has enough unique rooms. The way the paths change with the staircase is pretty cool too.
Fishing Hamlet I did find boring though. It doesn't have very impressive visuals and layout is very linear until the second lamp.
The levels in the DLC mostly don't match the main game. There are none that are as visually impressive as what is found in the main game and layout is not that interesting. The best things are the new weapons and bosses.
Everyone has different experiences with the bosses.... I found Rom incredibly easy with Ludwigs, and Laurence was beaten on my fifth try. The hardest boss for me was the Blood Starved beast. I tried beating him over a weekend, was put off for a week, spent a day learning his moveset and beat him the next day. Also, the Witch of Hemwick was quite hard for me as well, because the dark shadow beings would always overwhelm me, or the Witch would use that magic AoE that would instakill me. And then, I found out there were two of them and they can revive each other... sheesh.
The main game is linear as much you can see in the DLC but the artistic enviroment blind most of the players with its beauty.
Thats what makes it tedious. That's why you always kill his spiders first before dealing with him.
My most hated boss is easily Blood Starved Beast. There's just something... about it... that I really, really, really hate. Oh, and the Pthumerian Elder in the last required Chalice Dungeon for the platinum. That fucker doesn't play by the same rules as the player in how he attacks; his double boomerang can pass through pillars and walls and that is very, very, very, very cheap and I hate it.
Backstabs and parries man. They give you a lot of windows to perform them.Thats what makes it tedious.
Uh, The Living Failures feel very similar right now...fuck this boss.
Not to sound cocky, but why do people keep saying Rom was really hard? I found him easy tbh, as all I did was kill the spiders before I dealt with him, and it was a breeze from there.
Rom is piss easy for me. Like, really, really easy. All of her attacks can be reliably avoided, and it's easy to provoke her to not use her most damaging attack (the meteor rain). I *always* kill her guardians first though.

Holy shit, hahaha. That had to be rough. Ludwig is the hardest boss in the DLC, in my opinion.

If you're within a certain distance from him he wouldn't use the meteor attack, also, if slip outside it and he used meteor, they don't fall too close to him.Rom isn't hard at all. He's very easy but the mechanics of the fight are annoying. Having to kill the spiders is annoying. Getting one shot by the meteor attack because you got clipped by a spider( or he spat at you) is annoying. Sometimes Rom will just spam the meteor attack over and over and you can't do anything but run away making the fight annoying. I get why there are spiders in the fight because without them, this boss would be a complete joke of a fight but that doesn't mean that the fight isn't annoying.
Rom is not that difficult, but the fight is annoying. I hate boss fights with enemies around. In Rom's case, it's justified, but I still hate it.
I'm okay with BSB now, I know his moveset by heart, but I totally agree about the Pthumerian in Ihyll. The blades passing through the pillars are just bullshit.
Bosses I hate the most are Paarl/Loran (because camera and "holy shit, stop moving, asshole, you're big and I can't even reach you") and Bloodletting Beast (camera and "wtf hitbox" sometimes).
Yeah and the worst in the story is that I managed to reach his second phase on my first try (I summoned Valtr to help me, of course), so I thought "yes it's possible! I can beat him at this lvl!". So I tried again, again and again, until I had no Insight left. I didn't want to give up, but for the sake of my sanity, I had to put a stop lol
I hated the Abhorrent Beast a lot, but yesterday I learned that you can basically break his jaw and visceral him for huge damage (if you have a skill character, which most of mine are) so now I just kinda enjoy the fight, even the Lower Loran Chalice one with that god-awful cramped arena.

Whoa, didn't know that either. Never could get a visceral on him. Video?
So basically hit him really hard with a long weapon and hope it hits him while he attacks. Risky strategy, especially since in NG+ most of his attacks make big damage.
I didn't know you can even get a visceral on him. How do you do that? I've already killed him twice in the dungeons though.
ng+ has no effect on chalice dungeons
oh yeah i forgot about that oneI don't know if it'll work as well with other weapons, but all you have to do is keep baiting his punches and that quick jab of his, then smack him in the face with the threaded cane's whip mode R1 and quickly back away. He'll stagger after about 20% of his health is gone, then you can visceral him for huge damage (I was skill 50, so your mileage might vary depending upon the skill stat). This strategy doesn't work if you haven't got the timing of his attacks down and I find his attacks to have really odd timing. You could, theoretically speaking, finish him off in the Ailing Loran Chalice without understanding his whole moveset, but in lower loran, the arena is pretty cramped and he's resistant to poison, so you'll have to eventually get the timing of your dashes down.
You can visceral him at least twice which will take away about 40% of his health with a fully upgraded weapon and decent, if not great gems.
Yep. Though he might have been talking about the cannibal in the forest. I don't know how hard it is to beat him coz I've never engaged him as I always send him to fake Iosefka.
First enemy, a hunter. Took me 6 blood vials to take him down! Parrying is hard, and his attack has a huge horizontal range! But I was able to explore the area and find quite a lot of equipment <3 I ran past most enemies, of course!
Unfortunately, most trick weapons are strength-based =| the only skill one I found was the Beasthunter Saif and WOW, it is amazing! I put a fire Gem in it and now it is God-like. Now I feel I can beat the Hunter in the cathedral. I got to the boss also, Ludwig, and I feel it is doable, but not at my level. I was able to chip away half of its health, but 25 skill and a +6 cane are ridiculously underleveled for it.
ng+ has no effect on chalice dungeons
Thanks. Was able to get them at last!Once you kill one of them, stay in a place where they respawn and you can kill it before it even gets up to attack you.
The homing spells are really slow, the magic bubbles are slightly faster, and the meteor attack can be avoided really easily by staying behind the flowers in the centre on the left hand side as you go into the arena.
You should play till mergo's loft and farm the winter lanterns there for 19.8 % physical atk gems and upgrade your weapons to +9. You should also be around level 80-90 when you start the DLC. Morover, DO NOT use your chunks on the beasthunter Saif because the crescent slot is usually for elemental gem and they scale off arcane. There is a bath messenger in one of the earlier chalice dungeons (not sure if it's depth 2 or 3 but you can Google it) that will sell you a Saif with two radials and a triangle slot or if you insist on using it, slap a droplet shaped physical gem on the crescent slot.I went back to this game <3 (vacations, yay!)
I started a new character and have beaten Rom again, now with a skill char. The fight was way easier with a strength one, due to Tonitrus. I remember spamming R1 and never looking back - just hopping back twice when he was going to AoE. I didn't even kill the spiders. With my trusty cane, I had to take down the spiders, but it was still easy.
Then, I wanted to get the Blades of Mercy, so I went to the hunter in the cathedral. Man, what a hard fight for my level. If he parries me, I'm dead, and he certainly does it if I'm too greedy. I think I've tried it 5 times already. So I decided to try the DLC, look for a weapon to help me - my +6 cane was just chipping away his health, as I can't put many hit before having to back away. The DLC is HARD. First enemy, a hunter. Took me 6 blood vials to take him down! Parrying is hard, and his attack has a huge horizontal range! Then I guess some of the higher depth dungeons are just at NG+something level to begin with?
You can easily parry all the hunters in the Hunter's Nightmare. If you're having trouble with hunters who use beast cutters, their attacks have a very long wind up animation and the parry frames are pretty forgiving. I guess the best way is to practice on the first hunter and keep doing that over and over till you get better. I also love how the enemies in the Hunter's Nightmare can be baited into killing each other. The Nightmare Executioner in the church polished off two hunters for me.
Also, about Ludwig, I agree. I went after him right after finishing off Amelia and he one-shot me at around level 30. I went back after killing off Gehrman and getting my trusty Burial Blade to +10 and finished him off on my second try.
If you're looking for Skill-based weapon in the DLC, the Rakuyo is VERY popular. I've saved up chunks and a blood rock for it, so the next step is to find it and get that fucker up to +10.

down on third try, what's up with all the complaints about him? first stage is ridiculously easy, shoot in face/visc, second phase is a little harder but his moveset is a lot simpler and easy to punish, especially the firecrawl forward and the lava spewing.Laurence
and finallly beat ook by getting super agressive in the second phase and just constantly dodging behind and beating it up

Are those 19.8% without negative effects? I'm not sure I've got those from them. Haven't found any 27% in the chalice dungeons yet either.
I presumed that he wants to use the cane plus the Saif. If he plans on using just one then farming one droplet 19.8% gem should be enough. Why farm Winter Lanters when you get two +18% physical up and one +15% atk up gems just by picking them up? Those Winter Lantern drops usually also have negatives while the ones you find don't have negatives.
They have negative effects but stuff like +stsmina usage, durability down and - kin are pretty okay curses. Also, you need to go pretty deep into the chalice dungeons for the 27.2% ones and they're cursed as well. I can give you pointers if you want. Are those 19.8% without negative effects?
