Reading my magazine subs are going to be SO much better on iPad 3. Same with things like Flipboard. God, they need to announce this thing already!

Also it's funny seeing tech blogs saying "competitors are hitting 1080p, what about you Apple?", so far only Asus is hitting that res any time soon (and maybe Sammy), even then iPad 3's res is going to be the best of the best for a while...just like when iPhone 4 came out.

I really want to see the comic book medium evolve. Not even motion comics where drawn pictures shift around on the page like faux animation. I'm talking rich media, interactive widgets and what not. Intelligent presentation. Comic IPs built from the ground up to be whole new storytelling experiences. There just seems like a lot they can learn from the magazine experimentation going on right now. There's really a lot of amazing opportunity here to see comics take the next step. The display rumors makes that potential all the more exciting!

Viewing HD content has got to be pretty amazing too right? The iTunes offerings will have to step it up. I imagine myself downloading more video locally to the iPad and watching it that way given what the HD capabilities will be.

I don't know if you've ever played around with the comic app CIA: Operation Ajax, but I can imagine next-gen comics taking that concept and blowing it out with the type of stuff we've seen in iTextbooks (and beyond). Tablets are just getting warmed up, can't wait to see what the future holds for these things.

I think iTunes content is capped to 720p, they will have to bump that up at some point.

The iPhone 4's screen was the "best of the best" for over 15 months (keep in mind though that Sharp used the same screen on an Android phone only available in Japan). This time competitors won't be caught flatfooted and I believe we'll see competitors topping the iPad 3's display within 2 Quarters.

The big lesson from the magazine experimentation so far is that readers don't really give a shit about the extras and only care about the text. The popularity of Instapaper and Readability affirms that.
Operation Ajax is the future of digital comics. They're now making it into an animated feature.
I highly doubt that. It's not really a comic anymore, it'd be more aptly described as an interactive picture book. I think there will be lots more 'regular' comics and it'll continue to be the dominant form of the medium.

Not a chance. Apple and stylii dont' mix. Ill be stuck with my Fujitsu tablet pc for a while longer methinks.
Steve Jobs literally hated stylus's and publicly bashed them whenever possible. Apple isn't going to go against that.

I'm kinda in the market for an ipad and i'm either thinking of getting an ipad 3 or waiting till it launches to get a cheap ipad 2. Hopefully it happens in march.

Read the OP (or even the thread title); March, supposedly.

I'm not familiar with apples launches really but how far apart are the reveals and launches usually? Do the basically not reveal it until right before it launches?

Usually it goes on sale within a week or so after the reveal. Preorders online the second the event is over though most likely.

Wow that's kind of interesting really. It makes sense, you don't want everyone holding out on ipad buys for the new one.

I'm hoping it's about the same price as the current ipad. Anymore and i think i will just stick with a 2.

Apple could release an official stylus that only works in certain, certified apps which the developers can enable. That would be the best of both worlds. Probably won't ever happen, though.

Usually about a week after launch, but there are some cases, iirc, that it can go more than that.

I'd bet on early-mid March announcement/event, and late March release. It's either that or late march event and early April release, but I'd like to hope it'd be the former.

I don't believe apple has ever increased prices on their revisions to products. Probably the same price range as 2. With 2 getting a price drop.

WSJ and the loop already said first week march for the event.

One would imagine that a larger screen size would necessitate more RAM, otherwise that would put quite a hurting on games trying to utilize all that real estate.

Now that the beans have been, mostly, spilled with regards to the early March announcement of the iPad 3, more information is coming forward about Apple’s preparations for the event. Sources with knowledge of the matter have informed The Next Web that the company is in ‘crunch mode’ when it comes to lining up apps both to demonstrate on-stage and to show off in new advertisements for its third iPad.

Apple’s pre-event weeks are often spent soliciting demonstrations from many app developers and preparing demonstrations of those apps for the live event. Our sources tell us that this selection process is continuing at an increased rate as Apple looks to finalize the lineup for the iPad 3. There is also emphasis on graphics-oriented applications with high-definition assets, which appears to be in line with the new iPad featuring a ‘Retina’ display.

In addition, some apps that Apple is impressed with are being forwarded on to its long-time advertising partner TWBA/Chiat/Day for possible inclusion in the initial iPad 3 commercial spots. This process is entering its final phase as well, with the company on a tight deadline to deliver assets for playback during the presentation and later, television broadcast.

Are people still going to create the iPad 3 Rumor thread or have we agreed to just use this one for the month leading up to the event?

Specs are nice, but the apps are what sell this thing.

Been holding off on the iPad 2 since last September. Excited to jump in. I've already bought a few iPad apps on sale in anticipation.

I'd say probably stick with this one for the next two weeks until the invites go out. Then go crazy with an invite thread that covers everything up through the actual event followed by the iPad 3 lOTl thread.

There should be one, since that one can cover everything up to the actual event. I'd make one soon as the invite goes out.

Mac Mini went up by quite a bit when they revised the casing a few years ago.

But with the iPad, I highly doubt they will increase the entry price for the 3 when it hits.

Hmm. Retina or not, I'm in, though those rumors certainly sound great. Will be my first iPad. Have a Touchpad and a Iconia, had a Fire, but in the end I wasn't completely satisfied with any of them. I've decided to spend the money on the 'higher end' and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

There is more than one MacBook. Each actual macbook product line itself hasn't seen an increase. They haven't ever increased the price of the default 11.6 macbook air, the default 13 in MBP etc.

They got rid of the standard macbook. People always gravitate towards the cheapest options. That makes for a significant price increase.

The default air is the same price as the default white MacBook was..? They got rid of it when they lowered the price of air to be the same price as it.

White entry level MacBook was 999. Entry level air is 999.

Wow just realized iTunes video content is going to see a huge bump in sales. I know I'll be getting a lot of HD content, and I've rarely ever purchased it before.

This is a waste of an argument. Yes, Apple has raised Mac prices occasionally. It's highly unlikely they'll raise iPad pricing.

absolutely.

worst case. absolute worst case I can imagine is that the retina display is reserved for the pricier, higher margin 32 GB or 64 GB models.

but I would not bet on that. It'll almost assuredly be 500 bucks for a retina display iPad with 16 GB.

One would imagine that a larger screen size would necessitate more RAM, otherwise that would put quite a hurting on games trying to utilize all that real estate.

I doubt the vast majority of games will be designed at such a gargantuan native resolution. The assets will be upscaled.

I'm seriously considering a 32 GB model, because ... why not? :( I don't have any storage problems on my 16 GB iPad, but I guess I want to spend more money.

With all the rumors and sources now piling up, it seems the retina display is all but confirmed. I hope they can add some serious performance enhancements on top of the screen and everything and still maintain the price point. Surely their margins will decrease?

I'd be shocked if this isn't how the Wi-Fi lineup looks (not sure the current 3G prices off the top of my head and too lazy to look it up)

iPad 2 16 GB - $399
iPad 3 16 GB - $499
iPad 3 32 GB - $599
iPad 3 64 GB - $699

Prediction: People here will freak out after the event because Apple won't say how much RAM it has. ;)

It happens after ever Apple event. Apple never tells what the RAM is. You have to wait for it to come out and then someone to tear it down to find that out.
