Bloomberg: iPad 3 in March with retina display, quad core chip

Would it be smart to reserve the shit out of the iPad 3?

Can we even do that? I'm not familiar with Apple product launches.

I'm not, either, but I was told that they'll go up for order on Apple's site at some point, and then everybody will rush it. I assume that Apple's site will be the only place to buy it online for a while (is this true?).

Shits going to fetch a 40% premium over retail price I guarantee (once it's sold out)

They will open the site up for pre-orders at some point. I recall it being at night for the iPad 2. I got my order in within the first hour or so and received it a couple of days after the release date. My friend who ordered the following day received his about three weeks later.

I think the alternative is standing/camping in line outside the Apple store, which no sane person would do.

The iPad 2 didn't have a preorder. You had to wait till March 11 to order it online.

That launch also had the iPad cut to $400 online and $350 refurbished.

Ah, that could be. I guess I just ordered it the night before it released? Either way it was in my hands shortly thereafter and much, much better than attempting to get it in person.

Usually only the very first batch of online orders actually get them delivered on release day. Then the shipping estimate starts to increase rapidly. The last 2 times I was in line for an iPad there was an update every hour or so until it reached something like 3-4 weeks later in the day.

How was the resale market for the iPad 2 right after launch?

Apple stores will have ample supply. For the iPad 1 I didn't per order, walked in around 4pm and they had tables full - and this is one of the top grossing Apple stores in the country.

I just hope for a decent amount of RAM. I always felt like the web browsing was lacking, at least on the original. Not sure how the iPad 2 is. If I was to switch tabs I would constantly have to reload the page which is pretty annoying. It's been a while since I made a big gadget purchase so I'm pretty excited.

Ipad 2 is pretty good overall, though a few to several tabs of script or image heavy shit will get you a reload. I hope the next safari is a bit more stable, certain things seem to trigger crashes too often.

Or...

What if the A5X is for the lower price point iPad 2?

Okay, so that's not as likely. I kind of bothers me that my iPhone upgrade later this year however is going to be a 1.5 generation leap in processing power, rather than a 2 generational leap. The slow CPU speed of the iPhone 4 is starting to drive me crazy. So much freakin lag.

It's kinda funny, because on the last Windows Weekly episode Paul and Mary Jo briefly discussed the difference between bloggers and journalists and shit like this was mentioned as well.

Been posted yet?

Details Of iPad 3 Surface In Leaked Apple Script!

Pinch of salt as always I guess.

The script talks about the A6 quad-core, the leaked logic board clearly says "A5X".

Hm.

We know that this document is most likely a fake however in the off chance it’s not here’s the story. A Kindle Reader document called “2012 Apple Spring Draft Script” has surfaced on Amazon.com here.

lolz

Seems legit!

- 2gb of RAM

*closes tab*

I wish ... *sigh*

Would be a rather un-Apple like amount.

I don't think 2GB is the amount it will have, that said, there is no "Apple like" amount per se. Apple builds things based on the price they can get the components for, the markup they can get away with, and the ability to market the device.

If they got a really good deal on the 2GB of ram, and it was cheaper than the minimum amount they need to incorporate into the device, that is the amount they would go with. That said, it's very unlikely that this is the case.

Lol, it's actually kinda funny to read:

_____________ (insert name/title of Gameloft representative) Thanks Scott! On behalf of Gameloft, we're honored to be part of this iPad 3 launch, let's take a look at a just a couple of our games that we are upgrading for iPad 2, Asphalt 7 and Infinite Blade 2.

I ebayed my iPad 2 last week, $500 towards a iPad 3. Hope the wait is not too long.

Wonder if they will up the storage? 32/64/128 instead of the 16/32/64 of the iPad 2.

That's the iPad 1. No chance it's happening again. It didn't for the 2.

Oh come on, at least read the article. It's obvious B.S.

It even lists Gameloft as the publisher of Infinity Blade, which we all know was published by Epic Games.

Nonononono..... INFINITE Blade!

Lol.

Hmmm..... actually, knowing GameLoft, there might actually be an INFINITE Blade....

(lol, I checked).

Shit I'm still holding out another week to sell my iPad 2 32gb 3G. What should I ask? 550? Has several scuffs.

Actually it has pretty noticable light bleed (launch unit), but I feel like a dick taking it to Apple now in hopes of getting a replacement. Maybe I should just do it, can't hurt?

Makes sense to me. Do it right away, so you can sell a pristine unit and buy a 3 :)

latest rumor from macrumors, the back of an iPad 3

notice the difference?

Edit: Damn it its been posted

more shallow bezel angle and bigger camera lens. sure, I’ll take it

man, first weekend without an ipad in almost two years. It was terrible having to rely on my puny iPhone to review absolutely tiny IMDB pictures of Downton Abbey actors while watching the episodes.

just dreadful

People who sold their iPads, how did you go about it? eBay? Craigslist? Curious what the easiest and safest way is. Is it safe to list such a high dollar item on eBay? Nervous about getting ripped off.

haha. The Droid Guy is never gonna get that pulitzer at this rate.

If you have an active enough market, I'd lean toward Craigslist. Near-zero chance of getting scammed as long as you're not dumb about it (do the deal in a public place, only accept cash, etc.) and you don't have to pay a dime in fees.

Can someone tell me why Apple charges $130 more for 3G (and now LTE) when Sony charges $50 more for Vita w/ 3G? wish the 3G version was cheaper relative to wifi-only.

To make more money.

This. Probably the result of an incredible amount of research which concluded that it's the best price that people will pay. Also, with these devices you're not locked in to a contract like a smartphone purchase so they are looking to pick up some of that money out of the gate. $50 seems more fair though.

The 3G version actually has more radios and the assisted GPS.

But keep in mind, the price of anything sold shouldn't really be a consequence of how much something costs to manufacture (other than being higher) - typically, the prices are whatever the market will bear.

Since when is $130 a lot of money?

So, is Amazon ever going to officially sell this?
Probably not. I don't think they ever stocked the last two iPads, and they've got their own tablet to sell now.
Amazon did eventually stock both the iPad 1 & 2. The lack of stock at launch was down to Apple not Amazon. Going by past trends Apple will start using that Amazon sales channel in the fall, just in time for the holidays.

A lower price point iPad two would be the exact same as the current iPad two...

That was either a botched listing or lasted a matter of hours, if you check the MacRumors thread associated with that post. Amazon doesn't sell iPad directly.

hmmm... I was pretty sure Amazon had direct sales for the iPad on Thanksgiving. My memory failed me. So I guess it's never happening. Gotta pay that sales tax.

I need an iPad 3 leak megaton desperately. Hopefully this week, but I'll settle for next. What do we think? Invites during Mobile World Congress?
