Looks like I'm about to get a lot more familiar with my iPad... with websense blocking GAF at work, I'm going to have to fall back on the vendor network that is unrestricted and GAF from there on my iPad.

This is going to make selling my iPad a lot harder, but I've decided I'm going to sell it when I'm done reading this book. I figure I've got until the end of the week to get this baby posted before an iPad event announcement drops in early March.

Who would have thought just two years ago when iPad was first shown off as that over-sized iPod touch that we'd have such a full featured real PC out of it today? Crazy.

If its cheaper than all the iWork apps combined, Im on board.

No way that will be the case, Microsoft will sell these for more than the iWork software. Because, why not? The Office brand name is far stronger than the iWork brand name even on Apple hardware.

selling my ipad 1 on ebay to get this bad boy. The screen became harder to use once i got an iphone with the retina display and the browser has always been too finicky for regular use. Im excited to upgrade :)

I have an ipad1 32g wifi model. What's a fair price to sell that for? I'm definitely looking to upgrade to the 3rd gen.

I wonder if someone tried a port of Open Office if Apple would be against it. I use Open office on my pc and have never even thought of buying MS Office. If I had a Mac I'd never buy Apple's office suite.

I have the same model with a jailbreak. My hope is to get something around 300-400 but who knows where it'll end. I'll post here again once it goes through.

Yeah, I agree. If the quality and compatibility is there, MS can charge higher for Office. heck, omni group is a good example of a company charging desktop-like prices for quality iOS productivity software and making some good money doing so.

Plus charging more than iWork will help give off the vibe that Office is better than iWork in the consumers eye, which is a view they'd be already predisposed to.

I have to agree with some people in this thread, iPad 1's design >>>> iPad 2's design. But the iPad 2 feels way the fuck better in your hand, the curve, the thinness, the weight all made it far nicer to use over it's predecessor. Also you could use it on a flat surface without it rocking back and both constantly.

Also, Office for iPad...lol. Bye Windows 8. It's going to be crazy to see how iPad's explode in enterprise the moment Office hits.

Ok, WTH. Who was the dude saying to user NextWorth?

Everything has gone well so far, but they quoted me $350 for my 16GB iPad 2 (which is in near perfect condition) and after inspection are noting $250. I have no idea what could be wrong to dock $100 off the quoted price. My iPad worked perfectly, had very few light scratches on the back, and no scratches on the screen.

That makes me mad, Amazon would have given me more. I emailed them to find out what's up.

I feel like Office for iOS is like FF going to PS1. It's going to cause quite a stir.

I kind of agree with you, but I don't see it as a game changing thing so much.

I'm almost positive that you can minimally view PowerPoint, Word and Excel documents at the OS level if they are attached or sent to you. They become just a linear stream of data, but they fully visible. Not ideal, but functional.

Keynote, Pages and Numbers were there for better viewing and content creation if one felt so inclined.

The only people that this should send into a frenzy would be people that intend to do actual document creation on the iPad...which to me seems like a horrible way to get things done. Not saying some people won't love it and won't use it...just that for the masses, the iPad is still not a content creation device and a massive majority of people downloading this will end up just using them as viewers instead of creators. At best they will be used for touch-ups, but the Apple suite of apps could already be used for that.

"Office on iPad" will generate headlines and attention, regardless. I'm just saying it's not as big a deal as some people are making it out to be...not until the world starts viewing the iPad as a primary creation device.

it really just depends on the level of functionality provided in this suite of apps. your average person isn't using hard-core features in Office, so it's quite possible that what's built in will be more than enough for most. And as we all know, when you add a BT keyboard, it's like it becomes a serious device for getting shit done.

In the business environment the word "Office" carries a lot of weight. Even if people just use it to look at and slightly modify their docs in Office for iOS, that will be huge. You'd be surprised how many people still think that Office docs are incompatible with iWorks (be it either Mac or iOS versions). Office is going to go a long way at legitimizing iPad in the enterprise.

My assumption is that the apps will provide near-full functionality of the desktop equivalents. Probably nothing like the VB scripting or anything, but certainly most of the GUI level functionality should be available.

...but even with that, I can't ever see reaching for my iPad to get serious work done at this point. The apps aren't connected enough. The shortcuts aren't there. The interfaces too fresh and not refined.

I need the ability to swap between docs super fast. To paste in pictures. To proofread quickly. To know it will have full compatibility with the desktop versions.

These aren't things that lend themselves to the iPad, regardless of how good the software is.

Again, I think this will make a splash of somekind, but not nearly as big as I think some people are making it out to be. In business, speed and compatibility trumps fun form factor every day of the week.

Windows weekly mentioned office on ipad last year so this is not really a shocker to me. However, word is that its not coming out before Windows 8.

Also, businesses will probably still prefer Windows just because their policies and user account settings can carry right over from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

Ah, well, unless something changes it looks like I'm only getting $250 for my great condition 16GB iPad 2. A bit disappointed since it is so much lower than quoted. Hopefully their support will get back to me and let me know what's up.

Could have made more on Amazon or Ebay.

It's coming out in a matter of weeks the daily says. So well before windows 8.

That really sucks, $250 for a iPad 2 in great condition is criminal. You should give them hell.

They say they send you an email when the inspected price is less than the quoted price, so we'll see what the email says was wrong. Even with some light scratches on the back I would have thought $320 - $330. Unless something happened in shipping I really don't know what's up.

We'll see I guess.

really? i am looking at dumping my Dec 2011 bought 32gb white wi-fi ipad 2 and based on conservative estimates, I should be able to close to $500 for it. I am surprised by your low amount. What kind of support do you need? Is something wrong with it?

You got scammed. Get it back and sell it on craigslist for 350.

No, meaning support for the trade in site (NextWorth). They email you if the actual value they come up with is less than the quoted just to let you know why. If they stay on the $250 number I'll have them send it back and put it on Ebay or something.

fair enough. I agree for the most part. But I wouldn't under-estimate Apple in this respect. In fact, I'd submit to you that it's only a matter of time before they release a version of iOS that addresses those current truths.

Best thing to do really, you could get $350-400 for it easily.

If you read the fine print most of these trade-in companies are very strict, especially about the physical condition. If you want the "like new" price, it pretty much needs to be out of the box new. If it has any blemishes whatsoever on the casing or screen, or any inconsistencies, that part needs to be replaced, which is expensive.

edit: it's similar to gold trade-in scams in some ways, they will often low-ball you and bank on you taking the money rather than paying to have it shipped back and doing something else with it. FWIW, I've heard a lot of success stories with these sites, and I'm actually considering using Gazelle. Since mine is scuffed I think I'd get more from a real person on CL.

Only "bad" thing about it is that it is engraved, but that shouldn't take much off I'd hope. Unless it got damaged in shipping I don't see why $100 was taken off.

Hey man. That was me that told you about NextWorth. Sorry they screwed you over. I sold my Zune to them last year for what they offered me, and an iPod for like $20 less than what they quoted, but that's because it was in pretty bad shape. Sorry for the headache, I really was only trying to help.

True, but here are the selections you make, and what I picked:

Item: Apple iPad 2 16GB Wifi (Black)
Estimated Value: $346.50

Condition: Like New
Display Cracked?: No
Powers on?: Yes
All buttons working?: Yes
Back plate dented or scratched?: No
Audio Jack Fully Functional?: Yes
Dead Spots on the Display?: No
Is the WiFi working?: Yes
Engraved?: Yes
Original Box Included?: Yes

Now the only thing I could see them getting me on is the back scratches. To me the back has no issues, but there may be some very light use scratches. Nothing worth $100 though. Who knows.

Woah, woah, woah, don't take my frustration as anything against you. :) The site seems good and everything, maybe something happened with shipping. Just odd to lose so much off of the quoted.

If you go back to the site and set up a new quote, you'll find that the price has been lowered dramatically. I guess that just means that the price you really get from them is the current price when they receive it, not when you send it?

Weird, since you told them it's engraved. The only thing I can think of is that it's a surface scratch. I think in those cases it's like a black and white thing. Whether it has a single tiny scratch or it's dented and scratched to hell, it probably takes the same large sum off, assuming they have to replace the casing regardless.

edit: ^ or their quote changed

That's also noted in their terms, the price you send it in at is the price you get. The only way the quote drops is if you wait past the 3 week window they give you to ship it in. I shipped it 4 days after quoting.

I'll have to wait and see what they say, maybe they got that mixed up.
