Samsung wants to marry Blu ray and HD DVD

The Korean electronics company Samsung (21/B44 resounds) wants to marry the two konkurriererenden formats with one another Blu ray Disc and HD DVD and to bring drive assemblies on the market, which can describe and read the two potenziellen DVD successors. At present the Koreans develop still their first PC drive assembly for Blu ray the Disc, by which co-operation with Toshiba one has however also access to the HD DVD technology and combination burner will surely bring on the market. This is only one question of the time, said the Technical manager Y.C. Chang opposite heise on-line.

Samsung will not rank among first, which uses the new technology, but promptly relatively favorable drive assemblies for the mass-market to supply. Still technical problems are to be bridged, in order for instance with an individual lens both formats read and to write to be able, these are however solvable. When the first combination drive assembly comes for HD DVD and Blu ray Disc on the market, is at present rather a political and marketing-technical problem. Here one must come to an agreement still with its partner Toshiba.

For spring the announced drive assembly SH-B022A still works with two optical lenses. Double reading and scanning rate comes and supports also two-part media with 50 GByte storage capacity with Blu ray the Disc on (hag/c't) .

Tenacious-V Redux
seems inevitable... and the only way this reaches mass-market.

both sides of the battle would benefit by more software sales. they stand MUCH more a chance to sell their discs if universal players are commonplace... as opposed to hoping people buy two "hidef dvd players" to sit under their TV... LOL.

now if only these dum-dums in charge would see the light.
