Book of Shadows opened to $13M over 15 years ago.

At least Blair Witch was cheap. Deadline reported $5M budget and an estimated $20M marketing I think.

The hilarity is that DC flops curbstomp most Marvel films. Even with dat Avengers bump, Thor 2 got punked out by SS.

And before anyone says Will Smith, it's been a long time since he was a draw.

Worldwide, Suicide Squad will top 8 of the 13 MCU films. China keeps Guardians of the Galaxy ahead. Since Avengers, anything starring Iron Man has been nearly untouchable.

I do think that Will Smith Helped out Suicide Squad, but obviously it was a number of factors. Margot Robbie's Harley, and the Joker were probably bigger draws than Smith.

And Batman.

The real test for Marvel is hitting a billion without Iron Man. GOTG 2 has a good shot at it. And of course, it'll be interesting to see if WW can hit big numbers without Batman cameoing.

I'm not really expecting Guardians of the Galaxy 2 to break $1B. I expect the domestic gross to be fairly stagnant (maybe increasing to the $350-375M range), which would mean that the overseas gross would need a 45-50% increase.

Unless foreign exchange rates start to recover, I don't really see that happening. $850-900M might end up being a more achievable target.

Hulk 2008 made 280M$? holy shit that's low for a 150M budget.

GOTG ain't touching 1B Get outta here with that garbo.

The fuck is this shit - it was a film with every major MCU character save for Thor/Hulk/GOTG. No shit it made more money.

And I'm only invested in throwing shade at Thor 2. Which it deserves.

Really an incredibly bad number for Blair Witch. It's weekend will fall well short of the infamously poor second one, and the number won't be much higher than what the original made in 16 days while being in 31 or fewer theaters.

Given the high quality of the horror film breakouts this year, I'm pretty certain the reviews falling of a cliff this week decimated The Blair Witch.

Boxoffice.com updated their long range forecasts.

New Films:

Arrival - $27M opening weekend / $95M total
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk - $22M opening weekend / $103M total
Almost Christmas - $16.5M opening weekend / $46M total
Shut in - $5.5M opening weekend / $13M total

I have no idea why Arrival and Billy Lynn are opening on the same weekend. It seems like they would have a decent amount of demographic overlap.

Next weekend should be a stronger weekend with Magnificent Seven and Storks.

When does the review embargo on Storks end?

This is what I keep saying. The decent box office despite being really bad means the WB/DC ceiling is real high if they'd just make a good movie.

@MHWilliams what do you mean sky's the limit, BvS made 8something hundred Million not that far from 1B so I can only see JL growing by 2-300M.

But i think Ultron numbers are DC and Marvel's ceiling, but we'll have to wait and see about the effects of 'Superhero Fatigue'.
