From latino-review, so probably bunk.

BOBA FETT’S RET-CON

Strap in, a lot of you aren’t going to like this.

To counter-act the prequels, the Boba Fett spin-off movie planned for 2018 has an interesting twist pitched by Episode VII writer Lawrence Kasdan: the spin-off will start with a complete stranger killing Boba Fett and taking his armor, starting a Man-With-No-Name bounty hunter tale. So: someone kills the Boba Fett from the prequels and takes his armor and name. One this is for certain is that Kasdan didn’t like the prequel and wants no Bobba Fett Clone in the spin-off film.

Sounds a lot like a Western and it sounds like it could restore a fan-favorite character that was totally a little boy with thousands of versions of his father running around. Or it could just be a lot of stupid rib-elbowing about this stranger doomed to fall into a Sarlaac pit in the most anti-climatic franchise exit ever.

Lastly I was told by 3 sources, reps etc, etc…(so call who ever you want) that Captain American director Joe Johnston is on top of the list to direct the spin-off, which makes sort of sense since he began his career as a concept artist and effects technician on the first Star Wars film. REMEMBER NOW before you all go and say he’s directing the project, I never said he has the job, just that he’s on top of the list, lets get that perfectly clear.

If that ended up being true it seems like something that most people wouldn't mind. Making Boba Fett a clone was one of the dumber decisions in the prequels, and that's saying something.

I'm fine with this.

And take Temeura Morrison's voice dubbing out of the OT the next time you release it.

.... when does the kill/switch happen? Pre empire strikes back or post Return of the Jedi "dying" from getting accidentally hit and running into a hover boat.....?

I don't like Bobba Fett and I like this idea.

The clone was one of the stupidest ideas out there.

The EU use to have a lot of stories and tales about who he really was until the prequels came around.

I'm thinking before the OT. I'm hoping.

Wow I really like this idea. Boba Fett was a fundamentally a Man With No Name-style stranger.

That seems to be the case. Essentially they want the OT Boba to not be a the prequel clone.

He was...until Georgie decided to show us he was just an ordinary clone kid, trying to find his way in the galaxy. :p

I'm having conflicted feelings with this. I don't like the whole clone thing but I also don't like the idea of just killing Boba Fett at the start of the spin off.
The second plot twist is that the complete stranger is actually another clone of Jango Fett.

I came into the thread expecting bullshit. Realized it actually is a good approach to correcting the prequel Boba Fett bullshit.

Sounds good to me!

Ironically would probably be closer to the character of the OT by doing this. Wouldn't bother me in the slightest, the only things that made Fett cool were his armor and the fact that you knew nothing about him.

I came in ready to be outraged, but I'm fine with this.

Have him kill the horrible clone before OT time wise and then this will be the Boba everyone liked to begin with.

I honestly dont know how boba fett fans exist. If Star Wars was Dragon Ball Z he would be Yamcha.

Are you kidding? Back in the day, Boba Fett was the coolest Star Wars character (except maybe Han Solo).

I mean, even his action figure was so awesome it was banned (it shot rockets out the back).

Anyway, what's kind of funny is that the Expanded Universe had a character sort of like this - a guy named Jodo Kast that went around wearing Mandalorian armor like Boba Fett, often pretending to be him.

Exactly! That was the entire mystique of the character. It worked so well.

Then there was this:

they should bring back his unique appeal by having him spending the origin movie systematically hunting down and killing the other remaining clones of jango. some highlander shit.

Sounds good to me.

Absolutely nothing about the prequel trilogy is sacred ground, so they could retcon everything and I wouldn't really give a shit.

Were the clones purged? If they weren't, I don't see how he'd be able to accomplish that in a single lifetime considering they cloned Jango thousands of times to create an army.

That'd be kinda shocking, but sounds like it could be really cool. It's not like anyone had any real attachment to the character from the prequels anyway.

I think a Boba Fett movie should take place after ROTJ and show him escaping the Sarlaac pit. The worst death in cinema history for a cool character.

Well, let's be honest, Bobba Fett as a character was only ever popular because he looked cool.

Dude had nothing real behind him in the original trilogy. So I don't see why this retcon would really matter.

LMAO why would anyone NOT like this? If the prequels must be canon then its better to get rid of the australian kid boba fett and bring back the mystery of who is under the mask. I hope the retcon even goes far enough that Boba was killed between the prequels and Original trilogy and the new guy is actually the one that was in Empire Strikes Back with the awesome original voice.

maybe he can tell them all they've won a boat and get them to collect, then zap the planet with a hijacked galaxy gun or something.

oh yeah, i didn't think about it happening in this order. do this. infact, do it with every character who appeared in the prequels, even if it means that half the cast of the OT are actually wearing creepy silence of the lambs suits made of the skins of their PT victims.
