Yes, the long awaited footage of me kicking ass, and getting my ass kicked, has arrived!

Revel in my victories! Mock me in my defeats! (Alas, there are a couple more defeats than victories in this collection of videos.)

Trying to do this through youtube.com, hopefully it won't be too slow. There'll be more videos to come, it's taking a long time for youtube to "process" them after uploading.

Vids of my first tournament, in April:

http://www.youtube.com/?v=LW9X6hU8E4E <-- Me getting owned.

http://www.youtube.com/?v=qk3adqAX3EI <--- Me victorious.

http://www.youtube.com/?v=JxgWkck_CKQ <--- Me getting owned.

Okay, Marcelo Garcia, I ain't. More to come later.

(anybody makes any gay jokes, and they'll get a roundhouse kick to the face, courtesy of BJJ blackbelt, CHUCK NORRIS)

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/w/?v=gFnQtJCwC8g <--- me in a dominant win.

http://www.youtube.com/w/?v=-SPslszai3c <--- close loss on points.

http://www.youtube.com/w/?v=1H2t-1_nAA0 <-- another loss on points.

just curious, but who are thoes off-camera people talking to? I can't tell for the life of me.

Aaron? Wha?

Sorry, but you'll always be boogie to me.

I'm watching your victoly one right now. Nice job.......I guess. Looks a lot like wrestling to me.

That was a very polite looking fight. You don't punch each other or anything? What exactly is jiu-jitsu?

It's a grappling/groundwork martial art. There isn't any striking in jiu-jitsu.

no punching or kicking. The goal is to choke the person or get them in an armlock, forcing them to tap (give up).

At the one tournament, several people got choked unconscious, and I think someone had to get their arm checked out, don't think it was broken though.

edit: But don't worry, I train in the punching and kicking stuff too :D

Just watched your defeats. Maybe you should hit the gym, dude.

Did you get a boner while wrasslin' around on the mat? Come on, be honest, I won't tell.

:lol

Let's be honest folks. This guy deserves a medal or something for his honesty. This has got to be the first time in internets history that someone has posted a video of themselves getting their ass kicked. :lol I applaud your honesty.

Boogie: since I don't know wtf is going on in those videos, how exactly is JJ scored?

If you get a takedown (ie, putting the guy on his back): 2 points.

If you're on top position, and pass the opponents guard (ie. when the bottom guy has his legs around you and you get past his legs) 2 points

A sweep (when you're the guy on bottom and you have him in guard, and you reverse your opponent to put him on his back) 2 points

Knee on your opponents' stomach: 2 points

Mount (sitting atop your opponents torso) 4 points.

Rear mount (grabbing your opponents back, with your legs around his waist, and your feet hooking the inside of his thighs, preventing him from escaping) 4 points.

Full rules here: http://www.canadianjiujitsu.com/grappling_rules.pdf

Basically, if I'm on the bottom, my opponent doesn't get any points for being on top as long as I have my legs wrapped around him, because I can use that position to perform various submission techniques from the bottom.

that...certainly sounds like a home run.

That's sweet. I wish i could get soem lessons for BJJ.. how much does it cost you? In tournaments are there weight classes?

I wrestle aorund with my buddy every now and then.. It's an adrenalin rush. It's like human chess, very strategic sport.

btw, is Chuck Norris really a black belt in jiu-jitsu? I thought he was a tao kwon do man.

$90 a month for unlimited training. Yep, weight classes, and experience levels for tournaments.

And I can likely find BJJ clubs closest to your area, if there are any.

edit: Yeah, Chuck trains BJJ. He showcased it in a few episodes of Walker, actually. There's conflicting info about whether he's a black belt, or whether he's at that level but doesn't care about the belts.

Cool to finally see these.

Match 1: GJ on the takedown, looks like you lost your base too much when you went to pass but that's normal. GJ getting out of the mount...tough luck on him recovering to side mount, but yeah, not a whole lot to be done there. Ah, nice on recovering to half guard, you worked for it and did well. Hrm, seemed like you weren't sure what you wanted to do in half guard and were leaving yourself open to the pass. Looks like he locked you down pretty well and took his time to finish...well played on his part. You did well.

Match 2: Took the back immediately? Nice. Though you ended up in his guard eventually you defended his attack well and afterwards kept his grips in check. *nod* *nod* Kinda dangerous triangle territory but you put your weight on him...ooh, that's pretty bad, though I guess he had it pretty tight where he was, must've been tough to avoid the reversal. From the footage I can't really tell if he just didn't have enough experience from that subsequent position (the flipped triangle high mount deal) or if the triangle just wasn't close enough when he went into there, but GJ bridging out of it and getting somewhere. Hrm, well, finishing from there isn't easy, and I liked how you trapped his arm when you got your hook back. Good fight.

Match 3: Too bad on converting those single legs; he has some pretty good balance. Hrm, yeah you sorta got pwned here. He had a rough crossface on yah and you really weren't in a position to open your guard and go offense from the bottom, though you managed to recover the first time, good move. Yeah this guard pass was pretty tight on his part, kept his balance throughout and moved his grips pretty cleanly. Looks like you went flat for a while when he was securing side control, but he had knee on belly so yeah. Hrm, yeah, he moved to the other side pretty quickly without giving any chance to get out, *nod* *nod*, clean finish. Your opponent looked pretty good ;b

Re: match 2. I kinda let him role me over when he had the triangle, 'cause I was counting on being able to escape it from mount. Fortunately, I was right, otherwise I really would have looked foolish :)

Re: match 3: Me not know wrestling. :lol That, plus I was tired as hell from the first two matches, needed more in the gas tank. I just didn't know how to finish the single leg. I was just exhausted when he finally got me down. Didn't have much left.

Thanks for sharing the matches Boogie. You could have just shared that 4th match and declared yourself an internet badass. :D

Yeah, I guess I could've. Ah well, my ego can take it :D

edit: damn, this last one's taking forever. Might have to put it up tomorrow.

Yeah, exhaustion would account for a lot in that vid.

Match 4: Not much to say here, eh. Clean takedown, gj getting rid of that hook, clean passes, yeah you have it together here. AFAIK it's sorta bad to go for full hooks when you have the mount, less chance of a sweep if you just push your heels in instead, but *shrug* no big deal. You did very well here.

I'll skip the other two since you think they're boring.

Anyway, I might begin entering in tournaments along with my people starting in feb. Dunno yet since my conditioning is very questionable, but we'll see.

Well, that was aimed more for those who aren't grappling inclined ;)

But actually, the last one that has yet to be uploaded I would maybe skip regardless. He gets a sweet takedown on me, then stalls in guard. He has one good pass attempt, but I get guard back, and I get a half-assed guillotine attempt, but that's about it.
