Boot any homebrew software on unmodded PS2 using the Action Replay MAX EVO Edition

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Reading some PS2 hacking site, I have found that it's possible to do this.

Homebrew software apparently comes in the ELF format to be used with devices like Pukklink and Naplink (that great looking demo 'Aura For Laura is in that format - I have always wanted to see the demo running on the actual hardware and finally, there's a chance) and now you can somehow burn this on a CD, and boot it using the Action Replay. I guess it works because the new AR allows you to burn CDs with MP3s, Videos, etc. but I don't think you can boot them directly. You have to boot AR first, then swap the disc with your CDR.

I have no clue if this allows for running pirated games, but probably not, as I've never seen a 'release' in ELF format (which is from what I understand - a simple PS2 executable)

That AR is a bit expensive, though... A bit too much even for a demo freak like me, as I'd have no other real use for it outside of running that demo :P

I think $39.99 isn't a bad price( Iwouldn't buy anyting higher like that $99.99 one). Of course, I'm going to be using my 256mb flash drive instead of the one included :P

And better yet, is it regionless?

Yes, I own an import PS2 without a domestic one. There are a few of my own games I'd like to play without borrowing the girlfriend's PS2 again. ;_;

can it be used to play imports?

need an answer to this... there are quite a few wrc sequels i've been dying to play (fucking sony of america...)

There is of course a much much easier way to do this.

Whenever I put MGS (PSX) disc one in my PS2 with my PS2 memory card, it bypasses the boot sequence, loads a menu called Keylauncher, from where I can run any .ELF I like (Things like HDAdvance, PS2 FTP Server etc).

All you need is a retail HDLoader for a while. After I got it working I sold my copy.

it does. there is a Genesis emulator called Pgen that works with an ELF file and games burnt to a disk or straight from a USB flash drive.

the cheaper version of AR Max does the same shit, but dosent include the USB device.

as far as imports go: not sure. i dont have any to test. but it will play any region DVD, so im thinking there is a decent chance that you can play imports. can be sure though.

edit: midgar is probably right. i have seen no evidence that the AR max will play imports. its states nothing about this in the manual or on the website.

kind off odd that it wouldnt though. it does every damn thing else.

As far as I know the ARMAX will not play imports.

However, the SwapMagic and Slide Tool work perfect when used in conjunction with DVD Loader.
