Borderlands 2 - PC Performance Thread

Okay, so I have a Radeon 5850 in my rig with a 2500k and 8 gigs of RAM. I'm expecting great performance, but no physX. Would it be possible to buy a small and cheap nvidia card to drop into my system for the physX? Something like a used GeForce 210? How does one go about making a card dedicated physX?

I7 960/GTX 680 here. Hope this game runs really well at 1080P w/ physx on high ... we'll see.

Is anyone here actually playing on PC yet?

I know my 680 will probably fold under the 2560x1600 pressure, but I'm ready.

I'd be surprised if you can't run at a flawless 60 frames. Don't know your CPU though.

I'm expecting to breeze through this game at a stable 60 at 1440p on a 2500k@4.5 and OC'd 670.

Is anyone in the US going to use a VPN to switch to Australia to unlock it tomorrow? I'm impatient, but TunnelBear only does US/UK and I have no intention of paying for a VPN service just for this.

Never mind.

Argh! My ac adaptor got water all over it and doesn't work anymore, have to wait til thursday til the replacement comes in :(

Oh well, just purchased the season pass from gmg. Hard to believe they're having such great deals this close to launch but it's fine with me!

Nope.

You really want a 460 / 550Ti or higher to help out.

My Mac Mini runs Borderlands 1 better than my PS3, believe it or not.

I should get similar results with BL2, right?

My 6850 will be fine, only have a 1080P TV to drive.

OP, TunnelBear stopped working with Steam quite some time ago now; use Spotflux instead. I'd also add an addendum mentioning that although Valve hasn't been known to restrict the accounts of those who use a VPN for reasons other than giving the middle finger to regional pricing, using a VPN at all is, technically, against the SSA. While many of us here (myself included) have been unlocking games early and activating region-locked keys with no issues whatsoever, I think it's fair to inform newcomers that, strictly speaking, there's an oh-so-slight element of risk involved.

I'm sure every game is different with it's optimization of PhysX, but I have tried it in Batman AA/AC, Alice and Mirror Edge... having a dedicated PhysX card does not really provide good performance. Not even a 580GTX with a 580GTX dedicated to physX was ever able to get a solid 60 in any of those games.

Hia,
yesterday I've downloaded this benchmark for UE3(link Guru3d) and was wondering - since BL2 wont be as "graphicaly comples as that benchmark"(guess),
if by getting pretty high fps in low and medium spec will tell me right now, that I can run BL2 in a playable fashion?

Which I guess I can

That or the 212+ yes
I have a 212. Yep, pretty damn good for the money.

Only two caveats: make sure it fits your case (it's big) and it's not going to be quiet all the time. To be expected really.. I like mine quite a bit and the temps are good all around.

I am just hoping the game runs well in general. I hope there are no first day fuck ups and issues with the PC version. So many newly released PC games have issues recently and it takes a bit of time for them to fix it...so I am hoping we get a good clean day 1 release with little to no issues.

Does anyone know what settings will be available for the PC version? Meaning Video Settings like AA, AF etc???

It runs great on a 660. I played on one.

Extra things can probably be forced through nVidia inspector or the AMD version of it.

Thanks Haz.

Do you know if using forced AA solutions via the NV Control panel nets better results than using the in-game FXAA?

Also, did you play with a 360 pad? I just wondering if the on-screen button prompts are showing the proper buttons that are on the 360 pad.

I've played on 360, PS3, and PC. On PC it was M+KB.

SSAA will always be the best (To my understanding) but has a massive performance hit.
FXAA is the 'cheap' solution, but has almost no performance hit and works very well with straight edges (Something BL2 has a ton of). Usually comparable to 4-8xMSAA. Some possible general blurring, but depends on game and engine and graphics.

I'll probably just run FXAA as I'll be playing at 1080p and streaming at the same time. I haven't been super bothered by jaggies if I have some AA on and I'm playing at native res.

Hmmm, Crossing fingers for it to run well on the laptop.

Not getting my hopes up for Physx or anything, just buttersmooth experience with decent graphical level at 1360 x 768.

Well, my i7 740qm and my Geforce 445m (still doing ok in most games, as good as a 635m, so I'm all fine for the resolution).

The thing ran Sleeping Dogs and Darksiders II just fine, so I'm not too scared but still, I feel that I'm getting on the low-end of the currently sustainable gaming rig.

Still got an old desktop with a 460 GTX and a E8400, but that's not waaaayyy better and I scarcely get to us it.

This is a game with ONE mode, and it's a mode 100% built around 4-player co-op.
Yet many, many gamers will play it from beginning to end alone. Coop is an optional mode. You know, like a bunch of those games I mentioned, and a bunch that I didn't bother to because this complaint is not worth that effort. As someone demanding split-screen on PC, you're an outlier. Deal with it.

My wife can't even play first person shooters, because she gets violently ill when playing in first person view, yet she loved the first game once we got a hack running to get into third person mode. If that doesn't work for the sequel, we won't be getting uppity over on GAF about it because we know that our demand is a little niche-y.

GTX 295....let's see how this goes. I can still play a lot of games surprisingly well...but we shall see

You'll probably do fine as long as you're not using features that were made after the 295 was released. You won't get PhysX for sure, but assuming that things like FXAA and ambient occlusion are even available, turn them off and it should do fine.
