Borderlands 2 - PC Performance Thread

I'm on an i5 2550k @ 4GHz with a GTX570
Am hoping for 1080 with PhysX @near60

Do you think it would help to pick up a slightly older NVIDIA card to use just for PhysX?

It's strange because in some cases a dedicated GPU for Physx ends up slowing the system down, whereas a single GPU solution provides a better framerate.

You could give it a shot though.

You are fine.

No.

Thanks guys

I'll assume I'm OK and if I find performance lacking then I'll borrow a card out of a friend's rig to see if it'll help before I buy anything :)

How many others are 100% intended for co-op play and have fully functional campaign splitscreen on both other platforms?

Hexen provided 4 player splitscreen on N64 and only 1 player per PC monitor, and that was like 15 years ago. PC FPS's don't generally get splitscreen.

I have a question that is a bit OT but I was hoping someone in here might know the answer. I've been playing Borderlands 1 on PS3 and I started the arena DLC last night and whenever there is a supply drop the framerate goes into the low single digits. Is that normal on the PS3 version?

There's absolutely no reason they shouldn't though.
I don't understand what the 'technical reasons' for leaving splitscreen out of the PC version could be considering gaming PCs are almost all vastly more powerful than consoles atm.

Was hoping to play with my girlfriend splitscreen and a couple of friends online at the same time but that ain't happening now :(

I was trying out the VPN method yesterday using Tunnel Bear.

I activate the VPN and then launch Steam. It then says it is Updating Steam, but the progress bar never moves. In the end it says I can't connect to Steam and it asks if I want to retry or go into Offline Mode.

Does anyone have a better VPN program that is fast enough to not time out when trying to update Steam? Or is there another method?

Thanks!

Edit: Nevermind I found the answer on page 2.

Curious to see how this will run on my Radeon 6670. With Mass Effect 3, if I turn motion blur off my card just tears through it (1440x900, maxed, AA on, constant 60FPS), so I'm hoping I'll have similar results with this.

Environments look to be much larger than ME3's though, and that what has me worried.

Just sold my 7950 for a evga 670. Now I'm ready for this game!

Anyway, are there other alternatives for early VPN unlock besides tunnelbear?

So since I'm in Japan, is there any way to play online prior to 26 Oct? The base here will sell the game but Steam has it locked out until late October. Do I have to play through laggy VPN for a month?

You will only have to use the VPN to pull in the encryption codes and the final few MBs of game data. Once it's unlocked you can play it on your normal connection.

Pretty sure you'd need to be in Offline to play it, when I tried this with Sleeping Dogs it would just lock up again.

This. More and more people are using their living room TV as a monitor combined with a 360 controller. Now i will have to settle with the (probably) gimped PS3 version.

Really tempted to use a VPN for the first time. Hope i don't lose access to all my games :p

Plenty of people have done it in the past, and recently for DS2 and Sleeping Dogs and not seen anyone with any issues. Just make sure you don't buy anything with the VPN up, they do care about that.

I could play DS2 with no problem. Did have to unlock twice, after entering the preorder weapon keys it downloaded more data and it locked again.

Went ahead and pre-ordered this since I'd already bought the season pass on Steam :lol hope it doesn't melt my 555m :s

What is Steams stance on unlocking the game through VPN? Doesn't sound it should be too harmful, but just to be sure.

Can it run Borderlands 1? With settings on medium and all of those higher end stuff turned off like PhysX and SSAO, I think it could. I don't expect this to be a demanding game outside of PhysX.

Cheers for the answers all - It ran Borderlands 1 really well so im hyped now and not too bothered about the extra PhysX stuff - just want to play the game!

Is it confirmed that you don't get the preorder bonus for the 660ti free code? I just got my Palit Nvidia 660ti Jetstream this weekend and have the game preloaded ready to go. I read on another forum that people were saying Steam will just see it as a purchase prior to launch therefore you should get the preorder bonus.

Seems abit stupid if not considering there's no way to upgrade to it.

Tunnel Bear does not work for me at all. Stuck on "Updating" on Steam and eventually "Could not connect to the Steam network."

Oh wellz. :(

EDIT: Disregard this, the OP was updated as I was writing this up.

Is there some reason you have nothing related to AMD GPU's in the OP? It makes it seem like the thread is sponsored by nvidia. You even omitted AMD from the system requirements. I know I can kill it with my 6970 but let's not just make this some nvidia support/tech discussion here as plenty of folks have AMD GPU's as well.

Other than that, great thread. I'm super hyped right now.

Hey. my friend with a pretty oldish laptop wants to play this game on low settings. It has a c2d @ 2.4ghz and some GT320M. Hes not looking for anything special, just playable would be good enough.

He can run Portal 2 if thats anything to compare too.

Can he run the original Borderlands?

Word of warning I've not just had the greatest experience with spotflux. Downloaded it in prep for tonight and it worked fine to connect to US servers to unlock.

However disabling it to surf internet normally with UK ISP wouldn't connect at all apparently it's a known issue for Spotflux at the moment. Even uninstalling didn't work.

Had to do a system restore to get my normal internet connection back....

any other recommendations for VPN?
