Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen

UKVGsyg.jpg

This album was released 45 years ago. On August 25th, 1975.

I just gave this album another spin a few weeks ago. To me it has aged tremendously. One of the perfect albums to drive to. Bruce is able to write songs that really resonate with the middle class. At least for me, he's one of the most genuine dudes to ever do it. I hope you all give it another spin and for those unfamiliar. I hope you give it a try.

Track listing:

1. Thunder Road
2. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
3. Night
4. Backstreets
5. Born to Run
6. She's the One
7. Meeting Across the River
8. Jungleland

Springsteen was one of those guys I always associated with dumb 70s rock and Americanism when I was a teenager growing up in Canada. Then I grew up and actually listened to his music. In my opinion he's the best pure storyteller in all of music and his way of simply stating things lyrically yet having a deeper impact in the subtext is what elevates him from his peers. The stretch of albums from Born To Run - Tunnel Of Love is one of the most impressive outputs in popular music. I'll give it a spin today, thanks for the reminder Packer.

What can you say. It's a classic. I don't love Springsteen, but it's a damn good album. Especially the titular song. The new album he put out is also great.

Darkness on the Edge of Town is my favourite Bruce album but I like every track on Born to Run. I can't stand The River though. Weird.

The River is a great song that I can't listen to. I always skip it nowadays.

His new stuff never really sticks with me. I'll give the new album a listen to later.

Agreed. His music really resonates with me.

I only know Bruces hits songs, but I cant deny they are very good. Born to Run is one of his best. Great musician. I just hate his politics.

I'm a huge Phil Spector fanatic, and the title track is one of the best Wall-of-Sound hommages ever recorded. Sadly the same Spectoresque approach is not used on the other tracks. If it had been, we might be talking about one of the greatest albums ever made.

This line has always stuck with me.
"I wanna die with you, Wendy, on the streets tonight In an everlasting kiss"

The way it's sung is haunting

Bruce had bars.

"Oh, baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
`Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run"
