We don't have hate speech laws, so I don't see why not. In the US, hate speech is explicitly free speech, so lang as it doesn't incite violence, harassment, or panic.

Nazi hate speech is literally a call for violence, harassment, and panic. A women literally was fucking killed this weekend because of these snakes. Are you fucking kidding me with this shit?!

Well duh, it's would be unconstitutional not to. The Bill of Rights and First Amendment was put in place exactly so that the US has ways to combat fascism because you have dangerous people like Trump making threats against the press. The statement was public condemnation of their stupid and hurtful world views because while you can't stop them from making a statement, you don't have to agree and are perfectly free to show your disapproval. Go exercise your own right to tell them to shut up and make them feel unwelcome, but don't erode important safety barriers over speech, and don't give them the satisfaction of triggering you because that's exactly what they get off on.

They killed a girl, injured many others, and almost beat a man to death in Charlottesville.

Seems like it would be pretty easy to make the argument that they can't have the rally as it will incite violence after last weekend. Hope the counter-protestors outnumber them 10-1 and silence them.

I have heard some stereotypes of Boston that I would really like to see proven wrong.

On the one hand, I saw one guy with an All Lives Matter shirt and another with a MAGA hat literally yesterday.

On the other hand, I think we had the second largest women's march in the country.

Well this I knew.

Yeah he basically got the funding from that game from the state of Rhode Island, and then the game proceeded to not make any money, and they had no way to pay anything back, which resulted in them trying to sell off the IP and ultimately closing down. I think he (and the other 38 studios execs) wound up having to pay back around 3 million due to fraud charges filed by the state, so the state lost over 70 million dealing with his stupid ass.

I mean...have you even been paying attention to anything in the last week or so?

The game made money. Problem is it was sold to EA and they needed about triple the receipts to do anything with it. In defense of Schilling, odd/bad time to be a developer.

The company mismanaged their employees, including mortgages, leading to fuckery all around.

Yeah, you think BLM would be given a pass after doing anything CLOSE to that?

Isn't the very foundation of their rally igniting harassment and panic? If not directly then indirectly? What is their core message again?

this is a terrorist organization and should be treated as such. just like we don't allow ISIS rallies in the streets on the US, we shouldn't allow this bullshit.

there's a difference between free speech of "i don't like this thing!" and "we should exterminate these races as soon as possible and do what the nazis did."

free speech isn't some all encompassing thing that has zero restriction, the very existence of these groups is a literal threat of violence against those they target

and thats where the defense of Nazi rallies falls apart. It is implicit to their existence. But hey everyone keep touting those Nazi talking points. It is literally the thing keeping them alive.
Well, that's the thing. Unless they explicitly state beforehand that their intent is to incite violence, harassment, etc, it's difficult to show that they will, which is why they're allowing it but monitoring it very carefully.

Deciding what is and is not free speech is actually rather tricky, because there are tons of exceptions, and deciding what is and is not allowed is tough.

we should. someone will get hurt or die at his rally. thank god for free speech no matter what though. white supremacist rallies do exactly that. which leads to violence.
If we did have hate speech laws, they would be ruled unconstitutional rather quickly. The US since it's inception has always erred on the side of free speech with less restrictions than with more. There's an argument to having more, but I'm not certain it would curtail violence altogether too much.

Their core message is probably "fuck Jews and minorities", but showing that is a public safety threat to the extent of being able to ban all Nazi rallies point blank is difficult to do. It is easy to see how shouting that there's a bomb on an airplane or fire in a theater will incite violence, but considerably more difficult to show that fascist rallies will. I think the event could've been postponed at least due to safety concerns, but if Boston thinks they have it under control, I will have to tentatively trust their judgment.

My GF is in Boston until tomorrow. I was panicking because I didn't know when this rally would happen. Had me real scared. I hope there is no more violence and that the counter-protesters show up in droves.

One of the primary organizers of this event goes to my school and is in my class, actually. I won't post his name but he claims on his Facebook page to not be a Nazi and is regularly a piece of shit on YouTube and online. The school itself released a blanket statement about the event in question and didn't address the student directly at all. The dude is acting like we have no reason to want him out of our school, and his smug face pisses me off.

After what happened, these things are guaranteed to be violent. At least I know where my cousins and mother will be on Saturday; I almost feel sorry for those Nazis, mom is a terrifying woman and has a deep hatred for fascists.

Plenty of rallies end this way because it's loud, confusing and tempers run high when met with resistance. Mob mentality basically. Also big terrorist targets because of a large amount of people. But regardless, we can't disallow rallies because they are very powerful tools of social justice. Many of the biggest strides forward were based on the sentiment and energy that was publically displayed. A White supremacist rally is equally as much of an excuse for people who vehemently disagree to get out and challenge them and make a spectacle of it. Police should be doing everything they can to keep the peace and everyone should refrain from physical violence, but there's always that guy who can be coerced to harm or kill in a moment of passion. But really, compared to some of the domestic terrorism we've seen lately with mass shootings we should appreciate anyone is respecting the law at all, because when you are zealous enough, you may skip that part.
