The Sully's don't live in Southie anymore. They were forced to move to Brockton.
Boston had a history because of the violence that broke out with bussing, and racists sure did capitalize on it. Now a days over racism is confined to one off Meatheads you'd encounter anywhere in the USA that travel into the city, or the headcases that no one provides mental healthcare for.

I know about that, and racism is an issue deep rooted into this country, I agree, but threads about LA, NYC, and other very liberal leaning cities don't have their racist histories constantly brought up in every thread those cities get talked about.
I admit this thread was definitely going to have those mentions so I shouldn't be so sensitive knowing that, but every thread about Boston has those jabs no matter the topic it seems.

There were people making jokes about NK nuking Florida in the "Richard Spencer reserved space at the University of Florida" thread even though UF is pretty liberal and Alachua County is blue in a sea of red.

Yeah that is pretty terrible, I'll admit.
The only thing I will say is Boston isn't just one area of MA that is liberal. Most of MA is blue (and this extends to most of New England). I'm not even sure there is a county that is red in this state, but I can't remember really right now. Anyway, you would think the opposite reading posts here.

Boston is still in America and a lot of America is still racist, I think it's fine to point out that we aren't immune to it here. I get being defensive but the moment you try to say "not here" you're making a mistake. You have to acknowledge that and be aware of it or you'll never get rid of it.
Boston is great, Marty is a good mayor and the city is and should strive to be an example for other places in the country.

Regarding Boston. It has a fairly racist history and some recent dark spots. The statements by the current government were good and were strong.
It's ignorant bullshit. There are racists everywhere in America. Boston definitely has a history and there are still terrible people there, just like there are terrible people in other liberal strongholds. (And as you said, liberals can be racist too.)
It's gross that people are using this to take shots at the city whose leaders are standing up against white supremacy far stronger than the country's president is. Not the time for that "hurrr Boston" ignorance. Focus on the Nazis.
Yup, they stand out more because of the sharp contrast with their surroundings. They're a tiny minority.
If these rallies go forward it'll be made clear who there's more of.

All major northeast cities have had their own integration/racism issues, Boston being primarily troublesome.
Being a "liberal," enlightened city does not make you immune to bigotry and institutional racism.

For white liberals it's very easy to think Boston is not racist. For Black Americans in particular, Boston is very racist.

And yeah that other piece on Boston being racist is about what I sadly expected and I know racist actions leave tremors but it does at least seem like it's gotten much better?

Should be mentioned that Charlie Baker is a Republican, and somehow didn't have any problem to condemn hate crimes and acts of terrorism. But then he has supporters who aren't racists.

They do all sorts of things, they're regular people on the outside. Hell, there was the misogynist dude who got fired from Google last week. But there's plenty of things you aren't going to list on your LinkedIn because you understand that there is a sort of minimum acceptable culture that your public self must abide by. That's why the Klan masks were invented in the first place.
They're out of hiding and they're losing, so some will definitely lash out. Their entire pretense had no self-reflection, understanding, or even intelligence. Don't expect planning out of actual idiots.
