...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Yep! The original had a nice following and the sequel has debuted at #1. It's nice to see Statham finally star (not co-star) in a movie that debuted #1. Go Statham! Oh and Wedding Crashers is $6M shy of 200! It's almost there!

1) Transporter 2
2) 40 Year Old Virgin
3) Red Eye
4) Constant Gardener
5) The Brother's Grimm
6) Four Brothers
7) Wedding Crashers
8) March of the Penguins
9) The Skeleton Key
10) The Cave

Edit: By the way, this summer was terrible in terms of major blockbusters when compared to last summer. Debut gross for most of the movies has been so lackluster in comparison to 2003 and 2004.

I just got back from a 4PM showing of 40 Year Old Virgin,, and it was sold out. The theater was literally packed and I saw on the way out that they had put up a sold out sign.

Didn't the movie come out like three weeks ago? I couldn't believe it was still so crowded.

The 4-day Labor Day weekend estimates:

1. Transporter 2 - $20,250,000 ($20,250,000)
2. The 40-Year-Old Virgin - $16,550,000 ($71,901,000)
3. The Constant Gardener - $10,804,000 ($12,526,000)
4. Red Eye - $9,300,000 ($45,379,000)
5. The Brothers Grimm - $7,930,000 ($27,630,000)
6. Four Brothers - $6,400,000 ($64,387,000)
7. Wedding Crashers - $5,775,000 ($195,752,000)
8. March of the Penguins - $5,415,000 ($63,420,000)
9. The Skeleton Key - $4,054,000 ($43,790,000)
10. The Cave - $3,700,000 ($11,714,000)

Notes:

The first Transporter movie, which came out in 2002, grossed a U.S. total of $25.2 million, with an opening weekend of $9.1 million. It's production budget was tallied at $21 million.

Transporter 2 has grossed about $20.2 million for it's opening 4-day weekend, with it's production budget talled at $32 million.

So I'd say Jason Statham is happy. Will there be a Tranporter 3? Well, it all depends if producer Luc Besson goes for it. If Luc decides to make a 3rd movie, Jason will be first in line. :) (All this according to an interview)

Great numbers for The Constant Gardener! Fernando Meirelles rocks. Also, The Transporter 2's weekend is the biggest ever for a film opening over Labor Day weekend, surpassing Jeepers Creepers 2.

dollarwise, this is supposedly the worst year since 1997. Attendance-wise, this is the worst year since LONG before that. This year was crap.

and so were the movies. The question is will studios fix what was wrong or just copy what went right... :\

The Constant Gardener was fantastic. Highly recommended! It's definetely one that will leave you thinking long after you leave the theater.
