There was no low blow, that's obvious now. Two hits that looked like it actually slid up, never making a real contact other than across the body as it missed, third was on the belt.

Fuck. What's frustrating is that, even though Ward was inching to a finish they stopped it. For nothing. Even if you don't think it was low blows (some definitely were), give him a standing count.

Man I'm pretty pissed. Dude should have gone out on his shield.

I was on Ward's bandwagon since the super 6. All you kids who called him boring couldn't get past your bias. He's an execeptional boxer who just made the boogey man quit. Too bad Golovkin too puss to fight him. Canelo gonna do this to him anyway

I'm not gonna judge Kovalev too harshly. I'm more interested in what he has to say once he's settled and had a chance to review the fight.

Ward fought an excellent fight, and is definitely P4P #1.

The bully got bullied. Fuck that dichead. Kovalev looked vulnerable and hurt. Responded poorly.

I have a lot of respect for Kovalev's boxing ability, but I definitely agree with the assessment the bully got bullied.

Well, I'm over it now. Kovalev got torn to shreds, and it was his own doing. Woke Ward up with that stiff left, and got clocked hard af with the counter. It was inevitable, there was just too much time left and he had nothing to give back.

Ward, congrats. I take nothing away from you, definitely the #1P4P

i've always said Ward takes GGG pretty easily. this fight makes it even more clearer

Ward played Kovalev like a piano. Kovalev allowed Ward to impose his style of fight from round one. I didn't understand why Kovalev's corner did not tell him to back off as Ward continued to bait him.

Ward is number 1 pound for pound for sure. The irony is that he finally seals his position when he's a little past his peak.

I would have preferred a cleaner stoppage but Kovalev was DONE. Great execution by Ward all night. Showed a lot of courage against arguably boxing's most dangerous puncher.

Harold's card was a joke but whatever. I think most saw the fight for what it was.

I think Kovalev's corner is pretty non-existent. Him and his trainer don't seem to have that connection.

I still can't believe how bad Kovalev was in that final round. Ward completely exposed him.

His defense has always primarily been his underrated agility and a great jab.

His fundamentals aren't nearly as solid as most of the other p4p elites.

Oh god I can't take the salt from boxing forums at the moment. ITS SO GOOD. Bunch of delusional fucks, really. Kovalev was so fucking done and was never, NEVER gonna win this fight had it continued. It's actually a little unfortunate it ended with a controversy when Ward was gonna win it comfortably either way.

The whole low blow shit is being overblown IMO. There was like ONE low blow in Ward's flurry. The way people talk on boxing forums, Ward literally just shot a balls torture porn with Kovalev.

So is it the refs fault?

Kovale's for not taking the knee?

Ward for low blows?

I must be going crazy because I honestly did not see any low blows in that final round. I am going to have to watch the fight again on youtube tomorrow to try to get a better perspective.

Sergey was stupid for not taking a knee. I think some regeneration would have done him well but to be honest, he was completely gassed by round 8 and the consistent body shots throughout the fight by Andre took his soul. Sergey was done and IMO looked like he soft quit there. He didn't protest the stoppage at first either.

There was a lowblow or two. But nothing that would have changed the outcome of the fight. Kovalev got done, from a face shot.

A standing 8 count has to be inthe rules by a sanctioning body for it to be an option in the ref's bag. Most bodies don't have standing 8s in the rules now and haven't for 20+ years.

Kovalev should have taken a knee and he could have got himself a count and fought on. It was his own inexperience that led to the KO. The ref simply has to step in and protect a fighter who keeps doubling over and who won't protect himself and also won't go down.

Argument that shot was a result of of a no call low blow at the start of the round. Ward knew he hit him low and stopped attacking, the ref told Kovalev to get on with it. It was clearly low.

The victory is tainted not just from the low blows but from the stoppage. The ref could have given Kovalev a count. One of the worst officiated endings in boxing.

One last thought on that stoppage.

Ward was in a position to do some severe damage to Kovalev if he followed up on those three body shots.

This'll go down in history as an unsatisfying stoppage but I think that's what the ref saw.

Having rewatched the entire fight, I think it'd be silly to suggest Kovalev had any chance of lasting until the end of that round. It was unsatisfying, yes, but who cares? It's clear that a gap has opened up between Ward and Kovalev since their first fight. Ward is just the best.

Kovalev had given up, not really sure why this is causing such a stir. 0% chance he was gonna win this fight with how gassed he was. Hell, I wonder how that guy amassed so many followers. He's as likable as a turd and his post fight interview was trash.

I rewatched the entire fight. In the beginning of the fight when both fighters are facing off in the ring, Tony Weeks tells them that the seam on the top of the shorts is ok but anything below is a low blow.

Ward was on the borderline on the last bodyshot to the stomach before taking Kovalev to the ropes. There was one lowblow out of the 3 that ended the fight but it was the very last one.

Kovalev was done conditioning wise from the accumulation of all bodyshots since the very start of the fight.

So great fight. Ward cementing his legacy.

Now hopefully he fights stevenson and gets all the belts.

I'd really like to see a fight with Stevenson, but I don't think he'll accept cause Stevenson would lose for sure. Then again, Stevenson pretty much has to accept it at this point, he's at the end of his fight-picking rope.
