Today the Brazilian's President announced a new tax reduction in videogame related products.

The IPI for consoles and game machines will be reduced from 40% to 30%.
The IPI for parts or accessories for consoles and game machines will be reduced from 32% to 22%.
The IPI for game machines with incorporated screen and its parts will be reduced from 16% to 6%.

The changes will become official tomorrow (Oct 27).

That is a great change and can in a long run decrease the prices of PS5 and Series X that are currently costing R$ 5000 (~$890) here.

Good news for Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Brazilian consumers.

The 6% tariff on portables is small in comparison-did not realize that it was separate from the the tariff on consoles. Great timing for Nintendo after they announced they will be bringing Switch to Brazil.

Pardon my cynicism but i think it means store owners will have a larger margin of profit while the consumer will pay the same prices as before.

We're brazilians. We pay more while earning less than our gringo friends.

Why on vidogames. What about yhe rest?

Weird that is on videoganes which means more profit for videogame makers, (so usa) but not for Brazilian industry...

We should calculate How much this reduction translate in numbers so we can demand from retrailers an adjustment at the same amount of reduction, otherwise its useless.

I have no ideia.
For example books here have no tax but they want to tax them now... while videogames see a decrease in tax.

Anyway for the videogame industry it is good.

Não significa muita coisa com o dólar mais de 5 jaires.

Stores don't have market power to enforce high margins, too much competition

Meanwhile on Resenutella : He is a fascist!
Dunno about that but he's definetely a piece of shit.

On topic, that's better than nothing I guess, and came in good time.

On the other hand pretty much everything else has become unbearingly more expensive. A bag of rice went from 15 to 30 reais here in a matter of months, absolutely insane.

The prices are really dropping after all. Amazon updated my order. From 4999 to 4699.
This 300 bolsonaros difference means i get demon's souls for "free".

What does this mean for Sega Genesis (aka Microsoft Genesis tomorrow) sales going forward?

Even though this is... at least something I'm still paying like one PS5 for me and like another PS5 for someone else (incl. our government). I just wanted to buy a PS5 for me. Only.

You have a great leader there in Brazil, I'm not surprised! Hopefully it reaps great results and Bolsonaro goes even further than that, the prices there are ridiculous I hear.

It`s bad but not as bad as some people think,

To be fair we have to compare with same condition.

The Xbox Series X in the US with sales tax have an average cost of $ 545.

In Brazil it`s sold for BRL 4.599 financed in 12 months "without interest". As a comon business pratice here, despite the "no interest" bulshit you can pay in one installment and receive a discount ranging from 5% to 10% wich translated to $719 to $759.

In the best case scenario it`s a mere 31% increase over the US price. Like i said, it`s far from being as bad as the general perception.

You do understand that this had nothing at all to do with the government, right?

A beg people to PLEASE expand your horizons and look further than UOL/Folha for news for a change.

For comparison to those of you that are not Brazilians, it's worst than CNN.

I don't even read either Folha or UOL FYI. And I cited rice as an example. I'm not referring specifically to it.

Too bad people are still way too focused on complaining. Some of my friends expected to pay the price of a PS4 Pro for PS5 somehow. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

This is not the place to discuss it, but I don't see the hate the current government gets.
We came from scandal after scandal from the previous government, and somehow people think this one is worst than the last. lol

So you went to the cash register with the product, they checked it in and added 30% tax, or was it added before tax? What is the sales tax there?

Can you do a before and after PS5 or Series X price comparison?

I thought 15% in Canada was bad.

We don't have the "tax" shown on the invoice. it's part of the price.

We went from BRL 4999/4499 to 4699/4199
USD 868,5/781,63 to 816,38/729,51

I got myself a "nice deal" and bought the standard version for BRL3800 (USD660,19).
Using today exchange rate.

Here the PS5 Disc edition is 629 + 15% tax(standard tax that's on everything except fruits and veg and milk) adds up to $723 CND which translates into $551 USD.

Sounds like you got a decent deal on your machine, hopefully you don't get dinged with duty.

Oh no duty here, this is the final price. :messenger_sunglasses:
It was sold out around 20 minutes after I bought it.

Retail prices are already with all tax included... the IPI (the one talked in the OP) is the first tax applied but after there are others like ICMS, etc to reach the final retail price.

Brasil really has multiples tax to everything instead of single one like most outside countries.

Yesterday Sony announced a cut in PS5 prices based in the new taxes.

PS5: R$ 4699,00 (-6%)
PS5 DE: R$ 4199,00 (-6.5%)

All big retails are already working with the new prices today.
Retails are returning R$ 300 for the preorders already credited (Boleto... credit card will be credited with the new value near the shipment probably next week).
