what to say. no one deserves to die of cancer, especially that young. but I can't say I'll miss him. I disagreed with virtually everything he said or did. and he courted disaster on every level of his life. hopefully his family can heal.

William Lyon Mackenzie is out most famous mayor of course. Rob certainly wins "most infamous" though

According to the Associated Press, he died of malignant liposarcoma in the abdomen. Which I'd never heard of before but is apparently literally fat cancer. Poor guy, RIP. What a terrible way to go.

I was assuming mouth cancer would be his demise.

Just saw it on my facebook feed... Man, regardless of what you thought of him or his actions (or the lack thereof) no one deserves to suffer and die from such a horrible disease.

As much as people are praying for his wife and kids, they were in a middle of a divorce when his cancer came about. Sad to see him go but he really wasn't a good person just very charismatic.

I don't have a lot of good things to say about Rob Ford, especially for the circus act he turned city hall into, but cancer is a terrible thing that I don't ever wish on anyone.

Well wishes to his family.

Lot of sympathizers for an alcoholic, crack smoking, wife beating bigot.

Hmmm...

He was a funny guy, like a really funny guy. He was, without a doubt, the funniest and funnest man in Canadian politics.

I know that he made some racist comments but you've got to respect that he smoked crack with regular citizens instead of just rich white guys.

RIP Rob Ford. You are missed (by me, at least).

He was a terrible Mayor for Toronto. He was very divisive, didn't come to office, made poor planning decisions, lied, etc. The Scarborough Subway Extension was the worst transit plan that one could make. It would cost tax payers billions and to this day nothing has been done about it. Instead of having a cheaper sufficient LRT that would have served and been accessible to more people, transit in the area is stalled. Aside from all that I never wished for him to go away, but always believed he should have taken a break from office to take care of his family and his health.

Wow RIP! Was such a great man during my High School years @Don Bosco. I remembered one time He always wanted me to join his football team :p.

Met the man once at a fundraiser in Etobicoke. Was very self-conscious about his appearance, but was a friendly person.

Cancer is a terrible thing.

R.I.P.

They're sympathizing for his friends and family, he doesn't need any sympathy - he's dead.

Maybe sometimes it's ok to put away the anger and cynicism and just let someone who died from cancer to not be called an asshole for a few minutes.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Cancer is much harder to beat if you are in bad health to begin with.

Yes, but it was still Cancer that did him in. Not the drugs. Drug's may have helped, but it was still cancer.

This pretty much... I wouldn't cross the street to piss on the guy if he was on fire when he was alive, but the big "C" really sucks... shit way to go, and no chance to redeem yourself if you die young...

CP24 went to disgusting lengths to vilify the man. Stalking him at his house in the morning while he's taking his kids to school and such. It's one thing to condemn him for his actions but completely another to harass his family. I feel bad for his family but mostly his kids.

Some sociopaths in this thread.

I don't really respect that he beat his wife, or drove around the city drunk.

Condolences to this family, especially his children though.

I think he was well aware of his health for quite some time now. I remember he had a resolution to go on a diet and exercise? Sometime during his term.

Honestly, I didn't agree with his policies, his habits and actions. 'm not sure whether all of it as true but at least some of it was true and I just hoped he'd get help, I was happy when he checked into rehab.

I didn't vote for him the first time nor his brother the second; I voted for Olivia Chow.

Despite all of that, the media during the whole debacle was the worst part about it. I felt really bad for his kids, the amount of crap they had to go through, partially being Rob's fault. Still, the lengths people go to grab a story is quite sad. I feel kind of guilty myself, some sense of shame

Jesus wept...

RIP, he will be missed even by those not in the city he governed.

eh... don't get me wrong, people are sad for his family members and neogaf is historically very sensitive about people making negative comments upon somones death (no matter how reviled), but it's ok in my opinion not to miss someone who is was so divisive, hypocritical and allegedly beat his wife.

If anything this should serve as a moment to bring us together to celebrate the few things he did that were good, but also realize that it could have been so much better but for his personality flaws

Hmmm...

I have sympathy for the wife he terrorized and the children who will grow up without a father.

Rob Ford was a bad person on multiple levels. I suspect a lot of people aren't familiar with him beyond videos of him being a goofy crack-smoking clown. It's too bad he died so young and in such a drawn out and painful way. He might have redeemed himself if he had lived longer, but now he no longer has the opportunity to correct his legacy as a racist, homophobic, perennial drunk driver, crack-abusing, wife beating asshole who, beyond the aforementioned personal failings, was also a disaster as a public servant, supporting regressive and damaging policies as well as divisive politics for the people of Toronto (I haven't mentioned his connections to organized crime either). He was a vile man, but he was also a victim of a vile family, namely his toxic mother and his overbearing sociopath brother who manipulated and gleefully embarassed him publically.
