Breaking News: Saudis are purchasing WWE

Fox is the only buyer that makes sense to me. WWE would fit perfectly in the Fox Sports portfolio and they would do a phenomenal job with the promotion and production values.
Nope it would be NBCUniversal(Well Comcast), who already owns the streaming rights and the USA Network.

I think this idea was "leaked" to see what backlash would be like from fans but more importantly-the TALENT. They're the ones that ultimately are behind
the multi-billion dollar success and if a huge majority of the roster(probably nearly all the women and many, many male talent) decide to quit/leave rather
than work for the Saudis, what value is the actually company at that point?

As some others have mentioned, I can see most if not all the women's roster quitting and quite a few male talent following them. McMahon would literally
be the only winner in selling to the Saudis.

And if you're the Saudis, you probably want guarantees that up to half or more of your talent roster won't quit on the spot. Good luck trying to get those guarantees.

This is a poker game and I wouldn't expect a sale quickly at all.

Finally, you have to look at who exactly has between 5-10 billion dollars to actually buy the company.

Besides investment firms, you probably have Disney, Apple, Google, Amazon, Netflix and another handful or less with that kind of cash to acquire WWE.

I know it was years ago, but Disney bought Star Wars for a bit over 4 billions dollars. I just can't see Disney buying WWE for a penny over 4 billion(at most) and
of course that's factoring in inflation, etc.

But ok I'm rambling. Should be interesting.
A well run, good quality and successful WWE is arguably worth more than the current Star Wars (three out of five terrible movies and some decent limited TV shows). SW obviously has crazy merch potential but then again so does WWE if they can find another Hogan / Austin / Cena in the coming years.

Eric Bischoff had a pretty good comment on this today in his "Strictly Fussiness podcast"(At around minute 20 specific comment at around 22:30)

Basically one of the things he says makes this hard to comprehend is the "distribution/tv rights".. No media company wants to do business with the Saudis as we have seen with LIV golf.

“Aww, it’s so...average,” she said to him in a cold brick of passion

Exactly and that is a golf tournament with real star power. Not a wrestling outfit that is going to bleed talent once the deal is announced and has a shall we say......."person of questionable morality" overseeing operations named Vince McMahon.

Advertisers will be running for the hills. They will not want to be associated with ANY of that. Like I said on the last page. If Vince makes this deal the entire brand is dead instantly as soon as the check clears.

I can't see how it could survive honestly. Later on in this show he does bring up a point I completely disagree with.. Eric compares this to Apple having factories in China and what not.. What he fails to realize in that regard or at least take into consideration, are the degrees of separation. To the American consumer, that is what matters at the end of the day.

Yeah and it also helps that Apple has made itself so seemingly indispensable to the average person that they are not affected by the negative association in no real tangible way. They also have no major easily accessible ready made competition aside from the generic use of the Android platform.

WWE does not have that luxury. It not only has a real competitor in AEW that some fans have actually grown to prefer, but AEW is also not weighed down with the baggage of Saudi ownership and Vince's continued presence of the deal goes through. Crown Jewel received MAJOR blowback and negative coverage when it was announced and that was just a single yearly event in SA. If they decided to buy the whole damn thing? It would be an absolute shitshow.

Honestly I don't understand why the Saudis would even want it. If someone like me can see the obvious pitfalls and issues I have to assume their people can as well. What are they thinking?

People outside of the US watch it too.
Shh…let them keep going. I like them having the vain idea that the WWE has always been for American values first and foremost and not actually all just for entertainment’s sake(and money of course).

It’s not too late to sell those collector cups guys.

I wish but I really doubt it. WWE is like Disney. They will live on forever. They keep doing horrible things and make more money every year.
I tend to be this, people care more about the product than who owns the product. They may have an Owner character but the real owners will never be seen and no one will ever care.

I know there are many people who are hoping that when Microsoft buys Blizzard it will crush the rampant sexual misconduct the employees have alleged. Perhaps Saudi Arabia can help WWE fix the same problem.

Yeah, just execute the sexual assault victims for having unmarried sex.
