North Korea has fired a ballistic missile, South Korean media say, quoting military officials.
South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that the missile flew eastward.
It is not clear how far it went or whether it flew over Japan as other missiles did earlier this year.
The missile was launched from Pyongsong in South Pyongan Province, according to a statement from South Korean armed forces chiefs.
North Korea has test fired several other missiles this year as tensions increase over its nuclear programme.
This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly. Please refresh the page for the fullest version.

Details are thin on the ground no details regarding what type of missile so far or the direction it travelled, there is also speculation it has not yet landed from some quarters.

That's the US's system but with a little more government involvement. It's still a form of capitalism mixed with socialism. A pure version of either would never work. It's why the USSR failed and why China has been changing things slowly. Together and with a good balance, they two systems work. Separate or with too much of one over the other, they don't work.

Launched to the East, no indications that it passed over Japan at this time. But details are still very thin. Trump is expected to make a statement soon and apparently was briefed about the launch while the missile was still in flight.

Well if it went east, but not over Japan, I assume that means it was on the short side as far as their tests go. I guess that could be a good sign that maybe they wanted the test to not be as inflammatory as some of the more recent ones. Who knows, though.

North Korea is basically a totalitarian monarchy, the only reason why certain leftists defend North Korea is because of anti imperialism and how the media dehumanizes the people living there. North Korea is a shit hole but the United States should stay the fuck out, they will only make things a lot worse.

Also even if North Korea was truely socialist (it's not) a, you would also have to concede that it's also Democratic because it's called democratic people's Republic of korea. If you don't believe north Korea is democratic you should also use the same critical thinking abilities that lead you to the conclusion that it's not Democratic to find out why it's socialist or not. Furthermore even if it was socialist that doesn't mean everything wrong with North Korea is because of Socialism, otherwise you would have to use that same lack of critical thinking abilities and conclude that everything wrong with Somalia, Liberia, Mexico etc. is because of Capitalism without any further thought.
