did they fix the translation too though? On Nina's feelings towards Cray, it is not a romantic one but the original english version mistranslated the dialogue to a romantic one lol

I hope so, if not, there should be a way to mod it somehow someday

What the actual fuck?

Please steam release
I think GoG have actually put work in to make this happen, so it's unlikely. Unless Capcom insists on it or something. But I don't think Capcom gives a shit about anything other than Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Street Fighter.

I can't spend anymore this month or next on games, but that's awesome. lol you can probably still buy it on PSN via Vita or PS3 too. I've got a copy installed on my Vita.

Whoa. Cool.

It's been said before, but 4 is coming to GOG probably because it got a PC port 20+ years ago and it's the only game in the series that did.

A few questions linger for me:

1) Is this version plagued by the issues of the original port? Apparently the original BoF4 PC was prone to crashing due to low memory allocation. PC Gamer is reporting technical issues with the port too, which isn't surprising considering Capcom's PC work at the time was... not great.

2) Japanese/English options are offered, but how are those partitioned? The original English version of the game is censored in a few ways, including a handful of outright deleted scenes. Are those scenes just not present in the Japanese version of the game? Were the cut English scenes translated (lol)? Or do you need to select a language option from the main menu so the game can be guided on the right path from the offset?

Huh .... is this the first time the game has ever gotten a PC release?

I didn't know GoG was also in the business of cross-platform porting.

Maybe it bodes well for cases like a potential PC port of RE: Code Veronica.

edit: So, apparently the game *did* have an obscure JP/EU only PC port way back in 2003. This is just GoG bringing that port to modern OS.

Awesome. Will definitely get this.

To this day I still think this is one of the best looking games ever made. I just love the art style .

I've never played a BoF game. How are they?
They are great. They're Not on the level of chrono trigger or Suikoden 2 but still worth a shot if you are a JRPG fan. Breath Of Fire 3 is the best. 4 is good but I found all the mini games in it annoying and the dragon transformation mechanics are limited. One of the endings had my jaw hit the floor as a 12 year old boy.

I talk about this game all the time with friends and had no idea this was a thing. I rarely buy games on PC, but buying this today.

I mean, who can't love GOG?

"Ok everyone, wish list must have older games not available on modern platforms. We will do some QOL improvements, full controller support, DRM FREE, and I dunno, give us... umm $10? fair?!"

Varies.

1 - A very conventional SNES RPG with a neat (OP) dragon transformation gimmick that otherwise trends below average in terms of design. You do have a wide array of playable characters to choose from but as was common for the time one strategy tended to dominate. Dungeon design is less than inspired. Story is functional.

2 - Wildly overrated. Dragon powers, the main draw, are less fun than in the first game, and the game suffers from an obscenely high encounter rate. Story is the big reason this one gets praised but it wasn't anything special even 20 years ago, well after release, let alone now. Original translation is also butt, but there is a patch that fixes that at least. For my money, this is the worst game in the series because of how poorly it plays. At least 1 favors blandness.

3 - This is where we start getting to the good stuff. High quality sprites, very creative dragon system (mix and match genes for combos and specific forms!), the introduction of character customization (for level up in addition to a base set of skills). The game just being a fun, mostly light-hearted adventure (with only the occasional dark undercurrent) is a big draw for most people who cite this as their favorite in the series. Also that dragon system. It's so good, man.

4 - Another solid title. This game's aesthetic is much more washed out than the previous entry's colorful appearance, but it fits the more somber mood of the story. Most of the game systems from 3 return with varying levels of improvement, except for the dragon gene system, which hurts especially hard because of how late into the game you have to progress before you can really toy with them. Battle system improvements shouldn't be understated though and largely(more than?) make up the difference. Also a dual protagonist system that most people are on-board with because the secondary protag is a cool dude.

5 - Very underrated. It branches from the previous games' traditional SNES/PS1 JRPG globe trotting paradigms to be a dungeon crawler that also heavily punishes you for using your intentionally OP dragon powers. It's also a short game (10-15 hours) that has systems in-place that incentivizes players to start a NG+ in the middle of their first NG due to difficulty and rewards specific to NG+ (and NG++) runs. Difficult to explain more without going into a huge spiel. This game gets a bad rap though because of how incredibly different is from the last games - These had always been second-rung genre titles and its relatively niche fanbase didn't appreciate the changes from convention. It's really good though.

6 - *Doesn't exist*. Feed the gacha.

I'd love this on steam deck but I don't want to go through the pain of figuring out how to do gog client etc to get it to run.

If it goes up on steam ever I'll insta cop it. One of my favorite ps1 and jrpg games ever.

I am not one to "bother" with much tinkering

But getting GOG is a 5 min ordeal

Install Heroic launcher, login to your GOG, download game. Done (add to steam library too of course)

Hmmm may do this then
It's a breeze and no way you should not do it. I have 150 or so GOG game (far less than steam) but some really amazing older titles. Including the newly released Resident evil trilogy and Dino Crisis and it's sequel (that is not on steam)
