Brothers, I just got a PSP with monster hunter freedom unite

My hand hurts just thinking about it. Either emulate the game using a regular controller or play one of the modern ones, just don't hurt yourself.

I saw them just sitting there and said fuck it and grabbed them
What did i just get myself into
You opened a doorway to remastered versions of FFT and Tactics Ogre, that's what you got yourself into. Along with a host of other great content. But mainly FFT and Tactics Ogre, 'cause they alone are worth the price of a new PSP. ;)

Have fun, ignore the claw stuff and just play handling it like a human, you don't need constant camera control in the game, the camera recenter button is more than enough after you get into it, you'll just adjust character direction for a split second, recenter the camera to look where you want, then carry on to the original direction you wanted to go and/or adjust based on what the monster is doing. Maybe you won't speedrun the monsters like an expert Japanese player that way, "wasting" 0.5 seconds for that camera turning instead of dpsing all day every day (although at that skill level you wouldn't need the claw still anyway, you could play it blindfolded and know exactly what the monster is about to do and how you should counter it instinctively anyway, lol, I really dunno why people proclaim the claw was ever something you need to play), but you won't get carpal tunnel. It's like people proclaiming you need to use a right hand claw nowadays to have constant access to both the right stick and the face buttons or something, that's just silly overkill and not something you need (or need elite controllers and back paddles to replace the face buttons to do this that way, lol).

Then rage guit on G Rank Plesioth or whatever and play the newer games that have more fair hitboxes, smoother controls and what not (although they also lose some of what made the series great, some item gathering and pre-mission preparation becomes inconsequential and unnecessary etc.).

Pretty silly portable

Probably still playable

Proudly stealing peanuts

The UMD format was part of the Sony idea of having their own proprietary format. Like minidisk and their flash memory at one point. The only one that stuck for them was blu-ray

You also need this...

I also have one, played fire emblem 1 with retroarch (it was ok). Also got recently an anbernic 351p, and I always fall in the same thing: you are better playing on a tablet with a big oled screen. Btw you can play MH portable 3rd with a translation if you were to hack the psp

I'm not sure if your model is capable of it but if so, you should invest in some component cables. If you have a PS3, see if you can sync a DualShock 3 to it.

Super comfy and your hands will thank you.

You found a PSP that has its battery is still working?
Not bad for a 17 year old console.

Do yourself a favor and hack it and get yourself a MicroSD card adapter, not only can you keep waaaaaay more games on it, but it won't magically corrupt itself every other year like that Memory Stick Duo nonsense. I remember paying an astronomical price for 4GB back in the day haha.

At university, I used to convert films and TV shows to 480x272 so I could watch them on the go, good times. Was a bitch to work out what bitrate you needed to make it look nice but not take up gigabytes per film, maintaining the aspect ratio of weirder ratios widescreen videos was difficult until I worked out some standards, sometimes DVDs encoded the black bars, sometimes they didn't so you had to be careful not to squish/stretch things.

Now get Wipeout Pulse and enjoy the best Wipeout ever released.

Why do you like it more than Wipeout HD/Fury/Omega Collection? I think I played Pure but not Pulse, was good but Wipeout didn't really fully click with me until HD, maybe was just the controller though.

I love the psp, it was my partner at university. I played so many hours of lumines, MegaMan maverick hunter x, final fantasy tactics, burnout, locorico, the god of wars and patapon. Great system.

Pulse was so polished and with no fat. It was hard and they basically resolved all the issues from Pure that were flagged by fans.

Also it had an Aphex Twin track as the first track of the game:

😆 the hand cramp comments are killing me. I played on pspGo and didn't notice any pains. But one of my hunting partners did. Complained often and used a psp 🤷‍♀️

Games that use the Analog sticks a lot are the issue with the Go since it tried to imitate the Dual Shock and has the stick toward the middle. The 4 PSP models had the stick on the far left side below the dpad and you had more space.

Games might be better, but ps vita had good controls and impressive graphics for a handheld.

Shoulder "pads" were a bad idea on the Vita, should have just given us back buttons.

So you lost about 3-4 hours of battery life
I mean they was designed for a decade of life so it's not unexpected.

Well it's almost 19 years old, so 1 hour playtime is still bonkers. Never had more.tham 3 hours on it anyway, i always played on the 333mhz boost, it did kinda drain it faster.

Oh OP, remembered one more to look after: Killzone. Fabtastic isometric shooter with havoc physics. Ragdolls, realistic grenade bounce and some smoke effects that made me go wow in the day
