I personally think that in school you're supposed to learn and speak your language properly, without any sort of slang or trendy perversion of it.


Fun little fact: when I was in primary/secondary school, we were forbidden of speaking sardinian. Reasons were more or less as I stated above, and some of the kids (usually the ones coming from less fortunate families) couldn't properly speak italian at all.

If a "proper" language lacks the terms needed to adequately include everybody, then the language is out-dated or incomplete and will need to be updated so that such terms are no longer relegated to slang status. Once the language has adopted the established vernacular as set forth by the relevant parties, only then can it meet the needs of its speakers, and taught without the risk of alienating vast numbers of learners across the country.

Healthy languages are not constant, they adapt and grow with the needs of society.
