Bungie's Marathon set for April 12th reveal

I'm a huge, HUGE appreciator and enjoyer of Bungie's FPS mechanical shooting and movement design, it's genuinely unmatched. But I strongly believe this will fail, and be catastrophic for the company. Sad times.
While I think you're right about this game failing. However, this looks like a low budget/side project for Bungie.

They're just huffing their own farts about how great they are. So why?
No not really. They're going into depth with gameplay mechanics and game design. They just explained that one of the classes has an ability to traverse quicker and builds up heat (stamina meter) and obtainable loot includes expansion cores. So no, I appreciate this deep dive, I like to know what I'm buying before I buy it.

I really like Tarkov. So this genre is great for me. I will need to get used to the artstyle. Very geometric and I wonder if the text on literally everything is actually helpful in any way. Also what is the map like? Do we know where we are at all times? Or is it like Tarkov where you need to figure out your location or go from memory
Yeah, I like the look of the game but they are doing a terrible job on explaining the loop to none extraction shooter players. Really needed a vidoc at the start like they used to do.

The gameplay mechanics look good, but I don't like the evolution of the art style. This slide that they showed when talking about the development of the art style/visual design demonstrates that they went too far in one direction. Imo they should have stuck to the middle art style rather than adopting the one on the right. The one on the right looks too cartoony and "blocky":

What I want to know is how much bullshit aim assist and bullet magnetism I'm going to have to deal with as a mouse & keyboard player.
Looks like the shooting mechanics are lifted directly out of Destiny so should give you a good idea if you played that game.

That was awful... The art style is really off-putting. The game looks like it's in the stage where they are just about to add textures but even if they did, it wouldn't fix a thing. I hope it flops hard and puts an end to this trend of games.

I would like to see the aliens , we saw the small ones, and i believe those robots. But i want to see what else will be more hostile too us, when we go on harder missions.

I've expected lore, PvE and way more refined visuals.

This game is aggressively targeted at PvP crowds even with visual style reduced to readability markers.

Hard pass.

People say the "extraction shooter" is dead. What are the current big extraction shooters? Helldivers 2 and Tarkov? Tarkov isn't even on console. If done right, this game will be massive. As a primarily console gamer, I'm excited. Nothing else like this on the market

This is exactly where I'm at. I love the visuals and I'm intrigued by the idea of tons of loot and customization, but I've never played an extraction shooter before and a lot of what they're saying sounds like gibberish to me.

Unless things changed, yes, you can play solo.
Yeah I know you can play solo. They mentioned that in the video. What im saying is that in Tarkov you can go in solo, but there is no matchmaking, so you could end up fighting an entire squad of like 4 players, some solo enemies and some duos or trios. Dark and Darker does things opposite where you know what the possible enemy team composition you could be up against before going in. Im just wondering how they are approaching that

Ok now that I see Lupo playing....this game looks sick as fuck. I will say that watching this reminds me of when I first played starfox. My brain was not immediately recognizing enemies coz it was all polygons.

What's worse is I just know the tech analysis bros like Linneman and Battaglia are going to simp all over the visuals, being dishonest about it deep down.

Gone are the days of a Bungie 1st person shooter with a quality single player component. They are going to charge players for what essentially looks like a f2p game.

All the leading extraction shooters are not free to play nor do they have a single player component, except the newly released Delta Force.

Well Destiny 2 plays great still so the controls should be fantastic as they are

But this is not Marathon to me, where the scary horror vibes for example, sure it has the weird cyberpunky thing going on at least but its not what I'd expect from that IP being revived tbh, think of it like this, RE:Verse is not what I want from Resident Evil, same applies here

The footage is edited, so we don't know how much downtime there really was between all of this action.
There should be downtime in an extraction shooter though. If it's non-stop flashpoints then you don't have time to loot. Really curious how big these maps are. They should be large with multiple places of interest to loot. Im kinda getting that sense from watching this. I really wanna see the map
