Bungie's Marathon set for April 12th reveal

I really wasn't expecting so many trees and rivers to be honest. But I am sure the art style is gonna slap so hard. Need to be some variety in maps.
but that GUN. Oh man wish these models were in Destiny. Good Destiny guns are mythical in design than actual Sci Fi.

If its anything like the dark zone from Division 1 then I'm in
If it's anything like that then I'm out.

I'd rather have a polished and more approachable EFT game with the Bungie gunplay and world building.

I think you're confused. I'm not talking about 3rd person or the movement of Division. I want the structure of Dark Zone wrapped in Bungie gameplay

So big open zones, npcs to shoot, finding loot and tensions at extractions

Escape from Tarkov. Yes. Agreed.

Anyone else find this ridiculously lame?

Nintendo reveals the new Zelda.

"I just wish they added a PvP mode because games like Fortnite show us you can open up so many more doors that way."

What is up with these SP gamers?

PVE. right?

bots are kind of PVE. for some people to feel they are somewhat good.

and paul assi? yikes.

That sentiment is everywhere online.

"I wish / hope they add a big single player campaign."

You never see the opposite. Multi-player gamers don't look at The Witcher 4 or Intergalactic and go "I hope they add a big PvP mode because that world looks cool but single player is boring."

To me, it's super childish.

You are the expert. so i dunno.

I wonder if it's because PvP is associated with competitiveness, try-hard, toxic people, which can be exhausting and not fun?
But if this game is an extraction game, isn't it the perfect genre to have both PvP and PvE elements?
I'm just more curious to see Bungie fail and get erased from the gaming industry and Hermen to get fired, or both to redeem themselves

That's not true at all though.

People were upset that TLOU2 MP was delayed and then they were angry that TLOU Online was cancelled.

People were upset that TLOUP1 and Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection didn't have the MP modes from the original games.

You picked two games that rely or at least seemingly rely greatly on melee which isn't really what people want to turn into MP games.

You're also ignoring history which was that many single player games already became online multiplayer games and the ones that were most suited for that have largely become that, so of course you're not going to see people asking for something that's already happened. People had always been desperate for an MMO Pokemon game.

What has shifted is that we don't really get single player FPS that much anymore and when we do they're largely after thoughts like with CoD.

Bungie has made some of the best console single player FPS campaigns, it's not childish for people to want them to make more. Just as SOME people would love Naughty Dog to do another platformer or want Square Enix to return to turn based RPGs.

You can't seriously be comparing those scenarios.

TLoU2 MP was already announced. It's somewhat rational (in our world) to be disappointed that an announced game was cancelled. TLoUP1 and Uncharted 2, 3, and 4 all already had MP modes. Again, somewhat rational for the removal of built modes not to be ported over to the newer editions.

Marathon was always a PvP focused Extraction Shooter. It never had a SP portion. It was never expected to have a SP portion.

If port begging is bad, what do we call SP campaign begging for MP focused games?

You picked two games that rely or at least seemingly rely greatly on melee which isn't really what people want to turn into MP games.
Smash Bros, Naraka Bladepoint, Chivalry 2, For Honor, and Street Fighter 6 are all melee focused MP games. Therefore Zelda and Intergalactic should be too.

See how silly that sounds?

We don't get them because there's no market for them. If there was, you'd see them far more often.

I used to love grunge music. I don't complain when the new Drake album is a hip hop album and doesn't have any grunge songs on it. The market is what it is.

All creatives / studios in the gaming industry got their start by making SP games. Bungie has been a MP focused GAAS company ever since Halo Reach launched. It's time to get over it.

Man, you guys go nuts when a SP studio dips their toes in MP waters but you don't see the hypocrisy here.

😬
spinning this early?

ain't no way this game gest rejected by the market like Concord did, right?
The tweet would have more weight if Tom Henderson was able to predict any Live Service success at any point in his career.

Dozens of Live Service success stories over the last decade and the guy refuses to recognize the patterns.

Exactly. DMZ (almost 3 years old and lost all support a long time ago) is still one of the most played game modes in CoD. I just played a couple of games today and the lobbies are filled within a minute. We need an extraction shooter with proper support.

You get massively irrational when it comes to live service games. You know this.

A sane person to an insane society must appear insane.

I think that is part of your problem. GAF is irrational when it comes to Live Service games, so you've created this persona where you take things to the opposite extreme.

It doesn't make you rational simply because GAF was already being irrational.

More interested in seeing my specific error in logic rather than seeing a dismissive blanket statement that isn't substantive.

They've always done this with reviewers and influencers. It's the industry standard for gaming.

That's why I only trust a select few people on reviews and then I try to play it myself.
Oh I know, I still hate it.

It's true that you need to pick and choose reviewers with tastes similar to your own.

I started following JakeTheAlright back when he had like 30 subscribers. This is cool to see. He's been crazy thorough in terms of diving into all things Marathon / Extraction Shooters.

Bungie Designer posted this on REE

I mean, most devs aren't going to say, my game sucks, but Bungie is putting out the same level of confidence on social media/forums that they did with Final Shape. Even PlayStation changing their banner on twitter and on PS Blog to Marathon suggests a level of confidence and coordination here.

I hate to call it a new IP since it technically isn't, but this could be the next big live service game on the market. Which I think would really force a lot of people to eat crow, those saying Sony's Live Service push was a mistake as well as those saying Bungie was a bad buy. Definitely a lot riding on this and you can tell.

Sony has TLOU Season 2 premiering on Sunday, but they're promoting Marathon and leaving the promotion of the show largely to HBO.

The next few months are actually big for Sony in general

April 12 - Marathon Gameplay Trailer
April 13 - TLOU Season 2
April 25 - Until Dawn Movie + Day's Gone Remastered release
June 9-30 - Until Dawn Movie probably comes to Netflix
June 26 - Death Stranding release
TBD - Marathon Beta
TBD - Ghost of Yotei
TBD - Marathon release
Q4 - Grand Theft Auto 6 releases

I think depending on the date for GTA6 we might also see Venom but my guess is that Venom will be pushed to CYQ1-Q2 - 2026 but 2026 will probably have

Venom*
Fairgames
Wolverine
Saros

Throw on top of that what appears to be a console exclusive in Phantom Blade Zero...

Convallaria is also releasing this year.

Decent year for Sony should all that hit as expected. Well apart from Until Dawn, that need to be unexpectedly decent lol.

Can't be excited about some GAAS that we no nothing about. I'll definitely look at the footage when it drops. I'm more curious than excited, honestly.
