Burnout 360 hands on.....

The playable demo featured only two tracks and a handful of cars to choose from but, thanks to a top-of-the-line widescreen HDTV running the game at 720p, and some high-end Dolby equipment pumping out the game's audio in impressive Dolby 5.1, it was an impressive display nonetheless.

The car models look slick with sexy paint jobs and sheen effects that are evocative of those found in Project Gotham Racing 3. According to Revenge producers, the car models have been rebuilt to take advantage of the 360's power. Part of this rebuilding process was to add better damage modeling, including location-specific damage effects. Rub the right side of your ride against a cement wall, for example, and that side will be ripped up accordingly.

Instead of the vaguely translucent flames in the old version of the game, incendiary explosions in Revenge for 360 leave little to the imagination--with rolling flames and thick swabs of black smoke emanating from the smoking husk of your car. And the sound. Perhaps it was because of all the sweet Dolby audio equipment we played through, but Revenge's bass-heavy explosions had all the thud and boom you wanted… and perhaps a little more.

The second new online feature is known as "save and share" and lets you record brief chunks of a particular race, say a brutal crashbreaker explosion for example, save it to your hard drive, and even upload it to an EA server so you can share it with friends (or indeed, anyone who chooses to download it).

Hawtness!!!111 EA carrying the 360 in early 2006 MWahahahahahaha!

What really floored us about Revenge's visuals, however, were the environments and the explosions. Sure, tracks looked fine in Revenge on Xbox and PS2 but here they look amazing. Rich clarity and depth in the mountain track we played, coupled with some impressive draw distances, really lent a sense of space and breadth to the environments, even if it were basically the same track we'd played many times in the older version of the game. And speaking of tracks, producers told us that ten new crash junctions will be added to the 360 version of Revenge, along with some new cars including a Dolby-themed whip that might just give the Madden truck a run for its money.

Nice!

I hope the demo shows up in marketplace soon.

I was momentarily tempted to buy NFS:MW but I think I'll wait for this instead...esp. if they get that demo onto marketplace pronto.

"Do you need teh HD DVD drive to play it? I am confused."

No, Stinkles, you don't...but without HDMI, they'll only allow the game to be played at 480i through component.

movies, screens, some media? (yeah, i've seen the pr shots from a while back)

Cant wait to play this badass game on 360...its gonna rock hardcore. Besides..its not gonna be on REV or PS3 anytime soon. :)

Me needs my next gen dose of burnout

Revenge sucks ass, i hope they fix the instant takedown bullshit so it takes some skills to takedown your opponent for fuck sake.

Burnout 3 is still the king.

Awesome, glad I never bothered with the Xbox/PS2 version. I opted for Legends instead as I hadn't played any Burnouts extensively before. This makes me happy after my disappointment with the Full Auto demo.

BO3 is the best IMO. BO4 is weird as you can shunt cars rather than avoid them. But i wills till buy this i reckon.

I held off on the xbox/ps2 version for this one, cant wait :D

The whole traffic checking system adds more to the evasion gameplay. You do know you can't hit oncoming cars and you have to avoid cars that your opponents have checked, right? Also if you don't want to traffic check, you can play the game just like BO3 if you want. It's completely balanced. Just stay in the oncoming lanes and you will gain more boost than people traffic checking. The whole traffic checking mechanic adds a whole new layer of depth to the game.

Anyway, BO:R > BO3, IMO.

You're buying a 360 on March 15th?

You can celebrate your new 360 on St. Patricks Day with Burnout and a Guinness!

Better yet, get a head start on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14th with Fight Night Round 3 and Full Auto! Spread the love!

Right. Yeah, it sucks ass. Perhaps a simple "I wasn't fan of the instant takedowns in Burnout Revenge, I didn't think it took much skill to takedown your opponent. I still prefer Burnout 3. Hey, why I am I posting in a thread about Burnout Revenge if I don't like it? I should go outside and get some excercise or talk to girls."

Surely a house from Kansas will fall on you.

Is there a chance that a game not listed in the Xbox 360 backwards compatible list will still work? (read: considering purchasing Burnout Takedown or Revenge)

It might work in the future but it sure doesn't work now.

Burnout 2 was nice upon release but hasn't aged well and the car designs really suck.

I still like Burnout 2 the best. The crash mode is broken in the versions that came after it.

I completely agree about the crash mode being the best in Burnout 2. I really despise the canned clapping and shit they threw in Revenge.

Still, Burnout Revenge racing mode is the best by far, imo. The sense of speed is amazing, and I love the Takedowns.

There's another brief article up here:
