BURNOUT LEGENDS OMG OMG OMG!

HATES FUCK OFF LOLZ! LOLZ! IM THE WINNER!

THE 2 player share mode is AMAZING IDEA! YEAHHHH! CRITERION YOU ARE GODS!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually like the lack of blur :)

It's almost disgusting how good it is. If they added any more modes or unlockables I would have to kick Criterion in the balls to restore the balance.

Best Buy better have this game tomorrow or I'm facepunching everybody. I skipped buying it at EB so I could get stupid points on my stupid Reward Zone card that I never use.

Well I really like Takedown, and while Revenge is really neat, the crashing mechanics seem even more sorta random. Checking and things for example. Plus its less about racing and more about ...well being fast and not crashing if you get what I mean.

Revenge is awesome from what ive played, brilliant game, but id still rather play Takedown or Legends. Dont get me wrong, once Revenge hits its 20 dollar mark ill buy it ;)

Yeah, it's really amazing just how good this game is. If I hadn't already played so many racing games on PSP I would actually be pimping it alot more but I guess I'm suffering from a bit of racing fatigue.... Doesn't change the fact that this game is flat out awesome.

Sorry, come again? Who's trolling? I liked the earlier games in the series. The Burnout effect in those games was great - fade the music and other sounds to the background, bring in the sound of a heart thumping, stretch the horizon away from the user...cool effect. Problem with Legends is that it only does the horizon stretching when you hit turbo. I guess EA doesn't want anyone missing a second of the kewl licensed Trax they worked so hard to get.

How is the PSP one as an entry title into the series? Never played Burnout before but since everyone says they're so good, I guess I should give it a try at some point.

holy fuck just drove the first super collector car. FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its a great game. However Burnout 3 is a better game ALL AROUND but Burnout Legends isnt bad at all, or just good even. Its great. Its just most of us burnout fans are so spoiled by the console offerings in the series its hard to see Legends for what it is, and thats FUCKING AWESOME!

Can you actually unlock more 'collector' cars with the share feature? Or do they need their own copy of the game?

Burnout Legends is frickin' amazing. It has the classic feel of the older Burnouts mixed with the newer tracks and crash physics of 3. PSP FOR THE WIN

I've been sticking with Wipeout Pure for my portable racing, so I'm more than ready for Legends.

If I don't get to review this game... fuck. I'd be willing to pay for it. Full price, even!

Well. It's a pretty good one. Basically it has the 3 gameplay with most of the tracks from all 3 games so you can't go wrong. Graphically is a pretty solid title, you won't be dissapointed and the speed is definitelly there although the 30 FPS.
My only complaint is the Soundtrack although it *CAN* be changed...Anyways give it a try Bebpo. Definitelly better than Tenchu ;)

It's amazing.

I wasn't planning on getting it since I already had two PSP racing games.

But after seeing the gamespot video review I went to my local game store and traded in my copy of Wipeout Pure for it.

Oh god, get it back. Pure just keeps on giving and giving. ;_;

But yeah, Revenge is awesome. I'll pick up Legends as soon as I'm all done with Revenge. I'll be damned if I don't want to get right now after all the HOOPLA. Sounds so good.

:lol

I was almost determined to unlock all 80+ cars last night until I realized it was midnight and I'd have to go to school/work all day. Oh well :lol

I just wish Criterion had dumped Revenge altogether and put Legends on the home consoles. Legends is fantastic...Xbox Live was made for arcade racers like this :(

So did Criterion, back in the first two games.
2nd BO had blur when you kick in the nitro. 3rd one had it all the time but it was stronger when you use nitro.

Legends doesn't have it at all, which combined with the lack of post-processing effects altogether (like glow on the sparks and bloom around the specular shine) makes the game look somehow more raw than the console offerings.

Other than that however, to me it feels and plays *exactly* like BO3, or damn near close to it. Controls are perfect.

Music sucks donkey balls, do the soundtrack replacement for the greater justice, it makes the game 10x better in this case.

Does the ps2 version still have the best sparks?
Yes, in fact, they look the worst in the PSP version (if you don't count the DS version, of course)

Visually...

PS2 Revenge >>> XBOX Revenge >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PSP Legends

Legends looks worse than Wipeout Pure and Ridge Racers IMO. More complex, but rather messy. No mipmapping (=lots of shimmering), very jagged, bland lighting, 30 fps, etc.

Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh, though, as I played Revenge first. Revenge is truly stunning in motion. The lighting and effects are just unreal. Hard to believe they pulled this off on PS2. Looks better than some of the new 360 games shown (like TXR360).

You're right, I forgot about that. Not as heavy as it is in the 3rd and 4th games though.

The overall impression I get is that Legends just feels rushed. That and the fact that it's not even an in-house Criterion project is keeping me away from the game. When/If Criterion sits down to work with the PSP hardware themselves, I'll be more interested.

Yeah, I think Criterion themselves could do a MUCH better job with the hardware...

Luckily, the game still plays beautifully and kept everything in tact. No reductions to actual track complexity or car interactions. It is also extremely fast.

It's well done, but does seem a bit rushed. The graphics engine is not polished in the least.

I'm curious to know where you're getting this impression from? I actually haven't seen a review yet that even uses the term rushed.

I played for 4 hours last night and, IMO, it easily outpaces every other PSP racer out there. I spent untold hours with Ridge Racers, but this game is unbelievable. Graphically, it certainly doesn't measure up to the console versions, but I can play this during lunch, on the throne, etc, etc (all the reasons why portables are great in the first place, that have been discusses, ad naseum).

And, Burnout, just feels perfectly at home on a handheld.

I guess the console vs PSP version argument will be the new head-to-head for the next year.

But it's more fun than both if you ask me.
It's an incredibly tight game, as far as gameplay goes, it's on par with console offerings, and the graphics are not too shabby either.

I agree with what you said, except for shimmering. Times where you can see it are very rare, certainly not during the actual race. As I said above, the game looks raw compared to console bournouts, but I think that's mostly because due to complete lack of post processing effects.

Trust me, it's one of the best PSP games there is, and it's the best racer on the platform. Don't let the small visual flaws (not even flaws, rather it not matching the extremely high standard of console versions) get you away from the game.

I think the lighting is too simple looking. If you look along the street, there is no shading of any sort. It reminds me of the lighting in GTA3 in that regard.

What? I'm out of the loop, who made Legends?

According to the developer diary EA's UK studio... which doesn't make things any clearer... still it definitely wasn't Criterion... EA's Handheld group within the UK studio is all I can find.

I've heard it's "buggy" from quite a few people...
...They keep playing it, it's *that* good (kind of like GTA syndrome), but there've been reports of random wackiness and buggy behavior.

I've played it extensively and no bugs for me. It seems like the first big PSP title released since launch is becoming something of a magnet here.

I'm kinda talkin' out of my ass here (2nd hand info), I'll see if i can get clarification today and repost...IIRC, it had something to do with checking cars into walls and watchin' them fall through the track, with "the camera following them", whatever the heck that means.

Again, it's not like they immediately rushed to return the game, just something they noted while cracking out on it =)

Oh, Darien...admit it. You liked "Saw". You told me the other day, while you were kicking that puppy.
